I could do with some clarification here. My perspective was that we are all trying to kill the monsters, and that any monster is fair game for anyone. I thought we should all be working as a team to kill them all.

I am a bit confused about this 'kill stealing' concept. It's a monster, and is fair game for everyone I would have thought. In the heat of the battle, I do not make an assessment of what type of monster it is and how much health the person has left. I will try and help.

If I am battling a queen, I am only too grateful if someone comes up and helps. I stand a lot better chance of living if someone is helping! I don't think of it as my 'kill'. Even help with a razor fly is appreciated, as they can be distracting and irritating and get in the way.

I suppose it is not on to hide until someone has taken 90% of the health of a queen, and then step out to get the kill. However, to be honest, I am not that bothered about getting a kill, just ensuring that the monsters are killed. I am after experience points, so I want to damage monsters. I am not that bothered about the score, because I am never top, just in the middle.

Whenever a redeemer is used, you will kill monsters other people have started battling. Is that kill stealing?

Not trying to pick fault with anyone, I just want to know what I am supposed to be doing. Sorry if I got it wrong.

If you worry about if you're kill stealing or not... Then you're not.... Kill stealing is more actively persuing monsters that are already in engaged and it's clear the other person has it well under control. Really a judgement call as to whether or not they need help... but if you've ever passed a monster cause someone else was about to kill it I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I'm not so inclined to agree...unless it is with a warlord I get pretty ticked off if someone comes in and picks off the monster that I have control of. I really don't mind the ocassional deemer that takes out a few of my monsters, but when 9 deemers and ion painters go off constantly it can be annoying.

Thanks for listening (reading) to my rant.

If attack me you do, hunt you down I shall. If snipe me you attempt to, drop a banshee on your head I will. If continue to piss me off you do, shotgun rounds in your stomach you will feel.

Szlat and Pyro.. I agree with you both. This game is about having fun and working as a team to complete one goal. Now for stealing kills, I appreciate the help others give me on a monster, the more people alive at the end only means we worked better as a team. We all like getting exp. but I'm not competing against others, so while some see it as stealing kills, I believe they're just playing the game.

In my opinion I don't think there are many people who wait till the monster's near death before they go in for the kill on purpose to steal your kill, I just don't think anyone would have that strategy. But this is all my opinion, agreeing that it's a matter of opinion of how people are seen playing the game

And remember this game's all for fun!

Even one deemer pisses me off. Come on, get off your lazy butts and risk something. Deemers and painters just show you can hide or run away good.

I AM lower level person. I have used a deemer once in my time of playing UT2k4, and that was in the HT server (which is now taken down due to vulnerabilities in the server.)

The people who use deemers and painters aren't lazy and usually do risk something. At least the ones I've watched. There aren't that many deemers and painters anyway. Doesn't it take a few minutes before the deemer's back up after it's used?

And I like watching the explosions....

Not many people can tell how much health a monster has left.

Ok, I'm so mad right now. Mostly this is to vent, but I want to add in that I totally understand how Cha-Chi and Mystic feel about being booted off a map. We were on Inferno, which is one of my favorite maps and I was doing really good (for me anyway)...I was getting some wicked shield guns and killing lots of aliens....and they all voted for another map!! I didn't even notice it until everything froze because no vote screen came up! I know it was at least Wave 7. You never truly understand what somebody has to deal with until it happens to you.

And to all those people who voted me out of a good game and anyone else who was enjoying it: GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

Dru, is there any way to stop this? I don't know anything about running a mod or server, but more than one person has complained about this now. And more than one person has said in game, "Don't vote. People are still playing." In fact, that's close to having to be done with every map.

*whew* Thanks for listening, people....anybody want a cookie?

I'm currently in a game where there is 8 deemers/ions per round. AND THERE'S ONLY 5 PEOPLE IN THE SERVER.

They used a deemer on the very first wave against BUGS.

What kind of player sucks so much they can't kill bugs without superweapons?

It reloads every round sooooo... not suprising you'd see it.... What map was it? Most people with loaded weapons 3+ TEND to hold their booms for later rounds.

Though it has never happened to me personally, I have been in game when it was done and I too think it is very wrong! I was in a game last night, and even though the map wasn't dropped it was darn close. I have been looking at the map vote screen for the past week, just to see how often people are trying to do this, and it is almost every map when there are "irregulars" playing. (by that I mean, people who show up, then bail like two rounds in and never come back.) I don't know how you can combat these people other than asking that they don't do it when any of us regulars see voting start. Removing map voting would be, imho, the wrong thing to do. There are times when it is needed, and if it wasn't there it would be missed in a short period of time.
