Putting in my 2 non-opposable Wombat thumbs way up for Iron Man! Fantastic movie!

Stephen: Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
Hamish: "Your island"? You mean Ireland?
Stephen: Yeah. It's mine.
Hamish: You're a madman.
Stephen: I've come to the right place then!

That may be the name of it. I'm horrible with remembering names of any kind.

Took the kids to see Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian last night.
Alot of action in the movie, for me this one was alot darker than the first.
Had alot of new chars. Was a pretty good flick, I'd give it a 7/10.

My son and I saw Narnia as well. Lewis' use of fantasy as an allegory for Christianity is the most pronounced in this story, with Aslan not willing to help until someone "believes", and the message being that believers will prosper. I always preferred his good buddy's Tolkein's themes of racial harmony over Lewis' overt piousness, but in some ways actually find Lewis' fantasy world and characters more rich than Tolkeins. In the books at least. In the films, LotR develops the characters better for sure.

Anyway, yes...action and story was well done, but acting was so-so. If the acting was better, misty eyed movie goers may have been full out emotional...but it just wasn't strong enough to illicit that response.

If they literally move on to the next book where these characters return to Narnia it will only be Edmund and Lucy, which is good, because they are the better of the four actors.

7 out of 10 here too.

Sweeney Todd:

Boingo and I rented this over the weekend. It was ok. I felt like I was watching Nightmare Before Christmas. I think I need to hear actual singers singing the music so that I can hear what it sounds like because I wasn't all that impressed with the singing in the movie. I'll give them points for singing in front of a camera when they aren't professional singers, though. From what the music sounds like, it seems it may be too complicated for the actors and the director to deal with, however. I think they may of been over their heads in making this movie. I also don't see an academy award nomination being deserved for Depp (Boingo will be mad at me for saying that). It wasn't a horrible movie, though. The idea behind it all is really good. I've never heard of a musical horror movie before. It is original.

6/10

Narnia-Caspian: I agree with the previous two scores (7/10) It felt hurried as far as characterization - maybe because it is assumed that one has seen the previous movie (or read the books). I also agree with Beylin on the acting.

Just viewed this. There is no doubt, first and foremost, that Forest Whitaker's performance as Idi Amin is absolutely incredible. You are taken on a ride, along with our young anti-hero and main character Dr. Nicholas Garrigan as he first becomes enthralled with the "pie in the sky" new ruler of Uganda, and then realizes the man's horrid transformation into a paranoid, sadistic tyrant, responsible for over 300,000 Ugandan deaths. That is no spoiler, as Idi Amin's atrocities are very well known.
The true study in the film is Nick's naive and reckless nature, as he is taken under the wing of Amin, and his tragic coming of age as he realizes the folly of his actions and of his own ignorance.
I say this because, some think the focal point is the atrocities of Idi Amin's rule, but in fact the story is about Nick's journey. Idi Amin's trials, tribulations, and behavior are well known, but most casual history buffs are unaware of the young Scottish doctor's role in Uganda during this time.
If not for Forest Whitaker, perhaps this film might have been overlooked, since I find it impossible to think of another actor that could actually portray Idi Amin having any human qualities through even the most atrocious of the acts he commits.
This is a must see.
There are some disturbing scenes in this film, which I will note for those who wish to be warned. That said, I absolutely found them appropriate to the telling of the story.
I cannot stop thinking about this film...

I know this was a while ago, but the Korean movie was called the Host. It made me so angry at the end (for those of you who have seen it - I won't say any spoilers)

Now, I want to spit out my 2 cents worth on Sweeny Todd....I'm just undecided about this movie. I tried so hard to remember its a Broadway play, but I just can't take musicals seriously. Normally, I REALLY enjoy Depp/Burton films, but this one didn't cut it for me. I agree with Cham, I'll be surprised if there are any award nominations for it. On the other hand, MAJOR kudos for Johnny Depp and Helen Bonham-Carter for taking singing lessons and studying for their roles. Apparently, Bonham-Carter has wanted to play the female lead (Her name escapes me) since she was young. I'd say 4 out of 10.

I also saw Cannonball Run this past weekend. The doctor creeped me out, but otherwise I really enjoyed it. Especially Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. 8 out of 10!

4/10...?! Boingo...I'm hurt! Sweeney Todd is an...'acquired taste' tho I'd guess. (Pun very much intended) An interesting fact tho, Depp actually didn't take voice lessons for this film. He wouldn't even hire a coach for it. He just taped himself singing and adjusted it till he liked it!

Aaanyway, to each their own, I suppose...

cheers.

I know, I know....I actually felt guilty thinking I wasn't really enjoying it. I love Burton/Depp films, but I really think it was because it was a musical! I just couldn't get a grasp on it.....Maybe if I had seen the play first....

Has anyone seen Indiana Jones yet?

Good or bad, I hope the franchise stops with this movie.

I saw it yesterday - I hope it stops but it probably won't. Personally, I didn't care for it much even though I did like the first one when it came out.

With that said, those that are fans of the franchise will like it. I'm not sure it will develop new fans, unless this was just a transition to Shia LaBeouf.

My personal score would be really low, so I'll let someone else post a review. The movie just didn't hold my attention.
