Well, I still think that sounds like fun. Granted, pyros don't get to see much of the show, but I bet they appreciate the fact that they're putting it on. And being there lighting off the finale has got to be the coolest feeling ever! Where do you go to find the paperwork, licensing, etc.? How long does it take to get? How long have you and Steelace been putting these shows on, CPL? It seems like you've done it for a while and still enjoy it.

We have been doing shows at this level for four years now, and yes definately still loving it. Every state has different licensing requirements, so the best place to start is your state fire marshal's office. Generally they run the licensing if any for their state, and they will almost certainly know what the state level requirements are. If you are planning to purchase any 1.3G(display, aka professional fireworks) you will most likely need an explosives license from the BATFe, the bureau of alchohol tobacco and firearms and recently added explosives. If you plan on transporting the pyro yourself you will need a CDL(commercial drivers license) with the Hazmat endorsement(Hazardous Materials). After all that general stuff you will need to aquire a permit from whatever local authority has jurisdiction in your area, usually either county or municipal. Thats the General stuff, there is a little more minutia involved but that is a good start.

Hey Boingo, I don't know your location, but a really good place to start would be a 1.3G fireworks dealer that does training seminars. I don't know where you come from, but Premier Pyrotechnics does several in different locations every year. It will give you a good base in pyro training and safety, there's a product demo in the evening, and you even get to hand fire a 3" salute! You can get more info from their website at www.premierpyro.com. Happy hunting!

I'm out of good ole Utah. That link didn't work, but when I get a chance I'll find it. Is it expensive to get into? The hard hat and goggles CPL mentioned wouldn't be hard to get. I'm sure prices are different over here, but how much were the licenses? I doubt I'd ever transport it, but I'd love to help put together shows and light them off. Is the age 21?

The age varies from state to state, but generally 18 to work a show, 21 to be the lead shooter(read person ultimately responsible for any mishaps). Google Utah Pyrotechnics Companies and see who shoots in your state. Contact them and see how you can get in. Its pretty tricky to break into, but not impossible.
