hmm scratch my thoughts.

I have to apologize for my wasting of everyone's time. I need to learn more about our game enviornment and the ideas and theories that mold it before I start to contribute.

No, don't apologize. You have come up with quite a few good ideas. For example, I am still looking into the idea of replacing Extreme Engineer with Base Specialist.

And if I have caused offense, I apologize - that is not my intention. I need and value feedback from the people that play more than I do.

However, I am usually in trouble with everyone for nerfing their favorite xp mine, because I try to keep it balanced for everyone. Which means I can't let any particular class dominate. Which gives me difficult decisions to make. And I will make them, without putting my own personal interests first.

I'm not offended Szlat. I just feel like we could improve the team oriented play. I don't care who's on and playing... when you have one person getting 3K+ and the others aren't even getting 1k... things just aren't "teamy". I've asked for nerfing... I'd like nerfing all around. Server some up for everyone. I think everyone here will admit that we need to change stuff up. If someone's gonna get all bent out of shape because they can't get 13414134k xp per map, well... tough.
I'd much prefer to log in and have a good time. Good killing, good conversation, etc. The only thing I hear about anymore is about someone getting nerfed, how it's so unfair, etc. I don't think I've asked for power at all with XE. I just wanna build stuff. But that's all a mute point if I can't control the stuff I've built. I'm not gonna spend time building a base so some jerk can run a vehicle through it or decide they don't like a block in a certain place so they just destroy it. Not how it works in my head. All I'm saying is change what yer gonna change and then let's work on fixing the issues that are causing this place to not be as fun to play. If people are really that upset about not making some magical number in xp during each map... well... go Extreme DC then... here's two options:
  • XP Cap - no single player gets more than 2.5k per map
  • Pool XP - all players receive their "share" of the total XP based on the Team XP made (i'd say based on some formula of time/xp made)

    my line of thought being... What if the XE just made an Extreme Base? More power to be shared with the team. Sure, they can increase the health, but really.... damage is where it's at. base the damage potential on the turret itself, versus the person in the turret.

    I love the mini turrets, but if they were Extreme... they would do more damage. (I'm visualizing a double-barrelled mini turret)
     
    If we go for the Base Specialist idea, then we need to allow the engineer to build a strong, team-orientated base.
    So yes more blocks and formations, defense sents and perhaps the link sentinel.

    If this is supposed to be a base for the team, rather than just a strong base for the individual, then we have to be careful about what we do with turrets. Having one very strong turret will probably just result in the base specialist camping in it. So not team orientated.

    A difficulty with spawning many turrets is that people don't immediately know what is intended to be open, and what the engineer wants to keep for themselves.

    One option would be to have a new type of turret, that normal engineers cannot spawn - so no confusion - and always have this turret such that it cannot be used by the spawner. But the link sentinel will link to it.
    That way the spawner gets xp from the link sentinel, other players know when they see one of these turrets that they can just hop in, and the base is team orientated?

    If I may contribute...I have a good idea for a turret for the Extreme engineers if you are going this route. Now this turret is fairly weak actually I would say the weakest of all the turrets, but you have to start small right? so the name of this turret is the rear hellbender turret, and it is found on the map ONS-Pipeline. I am sure you can extract it and perhaps add it to the extreme engineer arsenal. And as I said above it is quite weak, so tweaking may be needed. And above all it is a turret that no other engineer possesses on this server. If you want something stronger than this then go with a mini turret or a ball or etc...

    sounds interesting or how about like in the mother ship you spawn a base and in the center there is a console base with the controls for the remote turrets on the corners!

    I may be getting old and falling apart but I can sure can raise Hell and have fun doing it!

    Love the idea of a base specialist. some ideas for it:

    spawn two teleporters, so you could link two bases together, or have a tele to usefull pickups (DD, Deemer, painter etc)

    Jump pads, like the ones in the game already.

    defence sents that reflect projectiles back at the enemy.

    A "speed" pad, which when walked on gives the the speed adreneline combo for X seconds.

    maybe the defence sents could have level one of ALL the defence sent bonuses. so it helps a small amount in all areas.

    Vehicle ultima, so whenever a vehicles/turret is destroyed, you get a slitghltly weaker ultima explosion.

    A "cloak" adreneline skill, which makes everyrthing go invisable to monsters , so when the base is near death, you could clock while youy rebuild

    More ideas...

    Freeze wall/pad, freezes monsters who stand on it.

    Multi link: Base specilist can link to multiple vehicles/turret. not sure how you would confgure this one, but it would be cool if the base masters sourcce of xp was from leeching from people using the base. Or even give them an "enchanced" engi link gun, which gives more xp from linking and is exquivelent to two people linking.

    Other ideas would be an armour version of the Xmed healing beam thing, that heals over time.

    My one other idea, which is know does sound a bit far fetched, would be a skill that requiers multiple players. Eventually summoning a leviathan, each base specilaist/turret master/sentinel specialist/vehicle master would respectivly summon a "part" of the vehicle, so a combination of 5 engineers would be needed (as there are 5 seats). Then a leviathan could spawn, and all xp gained from it would be evenly distributed between the summoners. a large map would adviously be required.

    Probably impossible to make, but i just thought i would mention it.

    Actually I had the exact idea... I thought of this last year before there were subclasses, so I knew it would never be accepted. Although still farfetched yes it is still worth mentioning. GMTA
    Its a really neat idea... I mean think about it. All this is theoretically speaking:The vehicle specialist would supply the body, the sentinel specialist would supply the 4 controllable sentinel/turrets that can be manned, the turret specialist would supply the main ion turret the driver controls. And the base specialist in order to incorporate him into the big build would have to set the perimeters for the build, in other words without the designated place, even tho the parts are there, it cannot be built, so all 5 specialists would have to be needed.

    Yes, farfetched but very worth mentioning.

    As for the rest of the ideas, I think szlat mentioned linking sentinels. Not sure though, but these sentinels were suppose to link to turrets or people I believe, never to actually kill monsters but to leech xp off primary sources. And I think this would be the main source of xp IMHO.

    Sounds way way cool.

    but it also sounds like alot of coding for something that would never get used (well, not after the shininess wore off)

    I know this woudlnt be for XENG, but there could be a similar skill for medics, summoning the mother of all titans if you have say 5 monster masters all playing

    is this what you mean for the linking bit??

    the eng spawns a special sent that he then links to and the shoots linking beams to the vehicals/turrets thats nearby and then that 1 link can keep things healed and boosted? and maybe also the other standard sentinel types too.

    I think the original idea was a sentinel that automatically links to vehicles/turrets, with one beam.

    However i like Doms sugestions, the base specialist links to the sentienl, which then links to multiple constructions giving them a boost equivilent to say half the power of a normal engi link gun. i think that would work well.

    The engi could even have a "chain" link gun, that continues linking to multiple constructions/players when you link to something
