this talk of german songs has revived my love for TOOL.

Although their primary work is in English, they had a funny song on AENIMA, which was all in german.

If I recall, it was a cookie recipe.

Well...this could be considered a shameless bump but...

For all you who enjoy metal of all flavors, I have a favor to ask. You all need to give the band "Ra" a listen. They're a new band and the CD is titled "From One". Personally, I thought it was awesome. They blend classic metal sounds with a lot of new metal feel (Think Ozzy meets Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin, with a dash of Queensryche). Bottom line is THEY ROCK. But, they're new so yeah, they need your support! If you dig 'em, buy the CD! They have a new one comin out in june so, I'm stoked! Anyway, I'll post a track here for a "sample". As it's a radio release, I'd assume it's fairly legal Feel free to edit the post as necessary, Dru.

Listen here Ra - Do You Call My Name
(~ 4 MB)

Buy here Ra - From One @ CD Universe

cheers.

Stephen: Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
Hamish: "Your island"? You mean Ireland?
Stephen: Yeah. It's mine.
Hamish: You're a madman.
Stephen: I've come to the right place then!

Wow, you guys are into some great music. Ess-Jay, I saw Muse in concert in October and was thrilled to no end when they played Hysteria 2nd right after Apocalypse Please!

Was that really a cookie recipe? I wonder if it's any good....

Here's my list! Favorites are in parentheses.

The Beatles (everything...but Hey Jude, Maxwell's Silver Hammer and A Day in the Life the best. My Dane is going to be named Jude and Mystic's snowglobe penguin is Maxwell )
Oingo Boingo (obviously...Skin, Just Another Day)
Depeche Mode (Personal Jesus)
Muse (Hysteria, Time is Running Out, Cave)
Nirvana (Come As You Are)
Nine Inch Nails (you know, when I'm angry. The Day the World Went Away and The Fragile are the best songs)
Green Day (Holiday, Blvd. of Broken Dreams, Misery, Hitchin' a Ride)
A Perfect Circle (I'm surprised none of you mentioned them or I missed it...they lost points when they redid John Lennon's Imagine though)
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Elliott Smith (Waltz #2)
Lacuna Coil
Tom Petty (Runnin' Down a Dream)
The Faint (Southern Belles in London Sing)
Hoobastank (Same Direction and From the Heart)
Legendary Pink Dots (Belladonna)
Pink Floyd (Julia Dream, but everything really.)
Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody is fun in the bathroom)
Elivs (Fun in the kitchen)
Linkin Park (Numb)
Simon and Garfunkel (The Boxer)
Silent Lucidity
Throwing Muses (Snake)
New Order (Blue Monday and Crystal)
Tool (H and Merkaba)
Aimee Allen (I'd Start a Revolution)
The Phantom of the Opera soundtrack (from Broadway, not the movie)

That's just a few...

Jagged Marble, nice list. I think I can vouch for alot of that list. Been a rocker for a while.

B.B: Gotta give ya props for saying Elliott Smith. I got to see a live perfomance only once but it was great. 10 feet away from the man at a music festival held in and outside NY Giants Stadium (Field Day if your curious of the festival. It had a great lineup but thats a long story.)

Some other bands I must mention: Cursive, Bright Eyes, Deathcab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Silverchair, Songs: Ohia, Sigur Ros, 311, Sublime, Aimee Mann, Metallica (more old than new), Radiohead, The Detachment Kit, Audioslave, ..... well this list could just keep going.

I like lots of different kinds of music if you can't tell. The babbling will stop here....

For Now

ACK! I completely forgot about Smashing Pumpkins! I know some Stabbing Westward too; they aren't too bad.

As for Elliott Smith; the man is brilliant. How about a story?

About two years ago, in September, I found out he was playing at one of the universities here. (U of U for those of you who live around here.) I was way excited because he usually only played in New York and England. Well, my parents were having their motorcycle club meeting here and I decided to stick around for that thinking, "Oh yeah, if he's coming here now, he'll be back. I'll go then."

A week later, I found out he committed suicide. Yeah, I'm STILL kicking myself for that one.

That blows. The show was brilliant, just him sitting on a stool on a small stage with his acoustic and every once and away a guy sitting on stage with him with just a symbol or two and a tom drum. XO was a great album if no one else has ever heard of elliot smith. Plus his song Miss Missery was nominated for an academy award in the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. You can view that performance at his website www.sweetadeline.net .

I wish I could have been there. Do you have Roman Candle and From A Basement on a Hill? Are they as good as the others? Those are the only two I don't have. I can't pick a favorite, but I love XO, Figure 8 and Either/Or. In fact, my AIM name is from Figure 8 and XO. I felt creative after that. Son of Sam and Junk Bond Trader are awesome songs too.

And I forgot to add Screaming Trees to my list.

I don't have From a Basement on a Hill. I should go get that. That last works of the great Elliott Smith. Oh The Tragically Hip and The Pernice Brothers are a couple of good bands. I saw The Pernice Brothers at this small club once and one of the guys from the band was walking past me in a small "hallway" area, I guess that is what it would be called. Either way I said excuse me and the guy stopped and was like, "Oh ok." and lit the pulled out a lighter for me and lit my unlit cigerete. Kinda kewl that he did that. I just meant that I was getting out of his way .
