I seem to go through a phase of love affairs with certain authors. Having recently finished all the Irvine Welsh I could lay my hands on, I'm now moving onto the works of Clive Barker.

Most memorable books I've read are:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vega - Hunter S. Thompson
Porno - Irvine Welsh
I Am Legend - Richard Matheson
The Magus - John Fowles
Weaveworld - Clive Barker
Odd Thomas - Dean Koontz
The Atrocity Exhibition - J. G. Ballard
The Fabulous Riverboat - Philip Jose Farmer
Sophie's World - Jostein Gaarder

There are literally hundreds more, but I'm having trouble recalling them at this time.

Ceps I honestly don't know where you come up with this stuff, but please keep it coming! I'm still laughing! A moment of silence for Hunter S. Thomson please.

Oh glee! I love books. Especially Science fiction.

for example:

Dune
The Faded Sun Trilogy
The Space Merchants (somehow about AOL I think)
Starship Troopers
The Forever War
Childhood's End
Foundation
Chthon
Ringworld
Do androids Dream of Electric Sheep
Second Variety
Good Omens
Anything by Phillip K Dick
Anything by HP Lovecraft
Neuromancer
Snow Crash
I had a list of the "top 100" scifi novels, but I lost it
So yeah there's a sample of some of my favs.

The book itself is a wonderous piece of prose, basing itself upon the notion of artifical intelligence as a further extension of the human psyche. By its very nature, it inherits our own personal traits yet lacks the physical makeup and subjective thought patterns that make us humans. It also deals with mankind's persecution towards this 'being' and the way in which we spurn the technology we created, yet it is merely us on relfection. The notion that if we were to meet ourselves, we would be disgusted. Finally, it also centers upon us as a civilisation shoruding ourselves in technology and losing sight of what it actually should be to be a complete person.

I'd completely forgotten about this book - thank you for bringing it up, Taco! Guess I have plenty of time at the moment to read it once again...
