Well, I'm gonna venture into uncharted territory. In a week or so, I will be loading MS Windows XP Pro X64 on my computer. Are any of you using it now?

If so, what problems did you have, if any?

Aside from driver support for esoteric things like an old USB video camera or a USB to Serial converter, nothing, really.

UT 2004's 64bit version's Text To Voice doesn't appear to work. Everything else is good to go.

Honestly though I don't notice a significant performance jump between the two.

If you really want an adventure (make sure you have sufficient backups of your computer system) go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/ and you can try Vista's RC1 (32 bit or 64 bit) for free.

I hear the 64 bit versions of windows can use more RAM than the 32 bit versions' 2 gig limit. No verificaiton for that, though.

HOLY MACKEREL, Bot...............I went to the Vista RC1 site and gasped, the ISO download with my 6mbps cable will be 3 or more hours. I heard the os was bloated, but I never dreamed that much!!!!!!

Limit on 32 bit XP is actually around 3.25GB (I have 4 installed, but only 3.25 is seen by Windows according to my System Properties; do a Google or two and you'll see many explanations why).

XP 64 bit sees all 4 GB - dunno what it's practical limit is (could probably Google for that too though).

XP Pro SP2 sees all 4 of mine (msinfo32), but it only actually uses 3.00 from what I can see in Performance tab of Windows Task Manager and in system properties.

Windows Vista Advisor sez I'm fine for Ultimate, save a TV tuner card, my current sound card drivers, and my current Java install.

Think I should take the plunge?

Moof, why don't you take the plunge. Keep everyone updated in the forums on any problems you may encounter but remember that the link that Bot gave is the final beta version of Vista. I've already bought the X64 os so I want to give it a try prior to any upgrade to Vista. Rest assured that I will be upgrading to Vista when Halo 2 (for the pc) comes out as I understand that it will only play on the Vista os.

OOH OOH I have one of those on my door at work

It was from a corrupted install of Exchange 2003. It says "The operation could not be completed because of the following error: The operation completed successfully."

32-bit should be able to see 4GB (2^32 = 4.295GB) - it maybe an SP2 issue on XP (32-bit server version sees it just fine)
