I have to replace the primary HD on my computer, and I'm wondering two things (below). I'm going to start from scratch and do a clean install of XP and all my favorite programs.

Questions:

  • 1) Is there a FAQ somewhere with tips on migrating my UT2004 installation so that I can retain as many maps/skins/textures etc as possible? I have a spare secondary drive on which I can mirror the orignal install directory

  • 2) Will there be any issues with respect to my DC identity once I reinstall UT on the new OS? Will I inadvertently become "Nogard_Imposter?"

    Thanks for any tips!

    1. If you use the same 2004 CD and key, you should not have a problem with your name on the DC server.

    2. Migrating may cause more problems than it is worth. Cazius has some of the maps and map packages to download at

Dru and Shan have some at

and I'm sure that others also have posted map downloads as well.

Well, as for your DC idendity you should be fine as long as you use the same cd key as your original install. DC keeps your player records on site and uses the cd hash to id you.

As for the files, I just had to do this myself and I redownloaded the maps from the links here ( http://www.disastrousconsequences.com/dc/maps.jsp and pulled all of the skins I wanted through the skin packs on the skins forum. I then downloaded UT2004MI (google it) as a cache extractor for the few maps and files I didn't get anywhere else. You could copy your map, texture, etc. files over to the other drive then bring them back and just put them in your new install directory I think if you wanted to save some download time, but don't quote me on that as I've never done it. (except I did save a copy of my user.ini and replaced my new install user.ini with it so I wouldn't have to mess with the settings and key maps, and that worked fine.)

You could copy the System, Textures, Animations, StaticMeshes, Sounds, Music and Maps to the second hard drive and after reinstalling Windows and UT move everything back into place.

I have tried this before when a patch messed up my install

    Eureka! Success!

Celor's advice was spot on, except that I also copied the KarmaData folder over. There might still be a few issues, but at first blush, everything appears to be working.

Also, DC recognized the new me, as promised. Thanks again for all the help!
