This is an issue that I've never had before, my computer will randomly freeze after about an hour. I'll be in UT and it'll freeze so my mouse won't move and the button configurations won't work. So I then have to manually shut it down. I don't know why this is happening, thought it may be electrical but doesn't appear so. This has only started since I've arrived at RIT (college).
Does anyone know of a solution or an idea of what it may be?

Pyra,

give us a description of your pc hardware

Double check to make sure everything is seated properly. Sometimes things come loose during a move. Try that first; hopefully, the simplest solution is the right solution.

lol, sorry realized it was rather vague... the only thing that's changed between the trip was installing their network cd. Meaning I had to put in a cd, to make sure I had updated windows, then it allowed me onto the network. Someone else mentioned their computer freezing as well, so I'm thinking it has something to do with that cd. I ran another anti-spyware and increased my firewall. Hasn't froze for a little bit, but I'll have to check everything over.

Ah, not sure exactly what your looking for, like type of video card... stuff like that or motherboard? I'm really hoping it's the spyware or the cd, but time will tell...

The next time it freezes, leave the power on and open the case.
Feel the heatsink for the CPU, the heatsink for the Northbridge chipset on the motherboard, the heatsink on your video card (if this is covered by the fan housing, then just feel the backside of the heatsink that should be on the top of the card) , and feel the casing of the power supply.

The video card should feel warmer than the other items but it should not be so hot that you jerk your hand back as a reaction. The CPU heatsink or northbridge heatsink are probably the next hottest item but again, you should be able to leave your hand in contact without jerking it away. Any of these items being too hot will likely be the cause.

Also, check the hard drive for a hot temperature. I can't say how hot to the touch this might be ordinarily but it is less likely to be the problem anyway.

If none of these items are overheating then it will most likely be a problem with the software or the OS. You might want to go into the Management section of the control panel (assuming windows here) and check the error logs for anything with a red exclamation point at the same time the freeze up occurred.

You could post your hardware list like the others suggested but if your drivers are up to date then knowing what exactly you have is less helpful than knowing what telltale signs your computer might be exhibiting.

Update: My computer has yet to freeze today, I ran a different type of spyware hunter. First I ran Ad-aware which didn't fix the problem. Then ran Spybot which found much more than ad-aware. I fixed those problems then increased my firewall as I mentioned before... looks like I may be outta the woods! Thanks for the help, if it freezes again I'll make sure to post it... but so far it doesn't appear to be anything hardware related (knock on wood).
