would it be possible to make some kind of player against player game? i know that there are actual CTF games and whatnot but i mean a game that includes the player's rpg stats and abilities. it may be a little rigged for some of the higher level players but that makes it more fun right?

please dont hurt me.

We did actually have some RPG PvP games for a while... the problem is that any team based game gets extremely unbalanced if the high level players don't distribute evenly.

I'm not opposed to bringing it back. I just need to know more about how we can balance the teams better.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Always make sure I'm on Fro's team and I'll have no problem with it.

What sort of PvP? DM?

From my experience on other RPG PvP servers, there are 2 ways to counter the level difference: A level cap (pretty much out of the question on this server) and vehicles. Running people over in vehicles is basically going to kill anyone regardless of level. Therefore VCTF and ONS both tend to lend themselves better to RPG than say DM/CTF/AS. Not that I would be opposed to those though

I don't think perfect team balance is ever acheivable, and unless you want to do extra coding to create a mod (similar to uadminmods balance team feature?) that balances teams based on average level, I think living with unbalanced teams isn't all that bad. Besides, the community here is great; I'm sure people wouldn't mind being asked to switch teams.

We're running an experiment for now. I've got a bunch of PvP games up that you're welcome to try out.

various issues on rpg pvp..........ghost takes a long time to ressurect players especially on huge maps...........lightning rod's overpowered.......its like an aimbot with a shock rifle w/o the knockback in terms of damage and accuracy.......so far dats it.

I'm also still getting used to the hitpoints of players and player vehicles........since mantas need 2 direct avril hits 2 kill.......which makes em quite overpowered

I really have to disagree. This is the only way that I can damage a medic in these game types. I can fire at medics all day (with tripple damage on) and have huge trouble doing them harm. It's the only thing Adrenaline Masters have going for them in this game type...

Besides, from the final score from the game in question, you had 1.5 times my score with your medic...

I was actually rather surprised at how balanced the classes/levels were. I guess that's a testament to how well you guys balanced your classes Also, the stat caps make a huge difference; so much so that a level cap is basically unnecessary. Of course, we haven't seen any of the 250+ players on yet But regardless, kudos to your impressive balance.

I played both a medic and a LW, and both fared quite well. I think LA would do just as well, considering their advantages. (I actually think the Lightning Rod (globe too?) provides probably the only boost this class gets, especially considering the other two classes have either vamp/LW or the ability to heal themselves + inf weapon).

I think that's the idea; lower level players have a tool that allows them to get kills without worrying about any large level differences.

Anyhow, some final ideas and questions:
- For the DM gametypes, if possible, would it possible to set just a time limit instead of having a score limit? I can foresee some maps taking forever, while some are really quick. However, the one we played today (ons-pacman) actually worked ok.
- Ghost was mentioned already, but while I haven't experineced it personally, it makes sense how it could be frustrating.
- Ultima might be another thought; dying within a spawn point could be considered spawn camping, though I'm not sure what your stance on spawn camping is. Personally I don't mind, but some people get annoyed I know on other servers I've played on, ultima was an excellent for stopping a flag carrier, but rather cheap as well.

*the above two might be able to be prevented through the same code that prevents LW3+ people from spawning with deemer/ion in Monster AS, but I'm not a coder so I wouldn't know. heh*

- Also, could we perhaps try out some of the stock and server DM/ctf/etc maps in DM? Although they may not work well with ghost/ultima, so perhaps that should be held off.

Well, that's all I have to say. Hopefully I don't sound stuck-up/stupid; English isn't my first language

OK i just played a map an it was great. One of the hardest DM EVER....SOOO heres what i have to say.. Their HAS to be smaller maps... Going around hunting for someone for an hour isnt as much fun as one would think. Put a lot of the regular invasion maps.. 1on1 maps golitah small maps like that an it would be a lot better

Honestly tho, i didn't even heal myself with my medic for all the games dat i played in RPG ONS and the only reason i played as my medic coz i heard that u can gain exp and i wanted to level up my medic........i think it really comes down to a player's experience since i have played around 2,000+ ons games, 200+ dm games, 200+ ctf games, 100+ instagib games(NGI and LGI), 100+ AS games and around 50 TAM games.........basically people on this server are not used to ppl running them over........heck, i'm not even a great manta pilot, if u go to a public ons server, u'll see that there are manta pilots out there that are just NASTY with the manta......manta's are for blindsiding ppl and multi-tasking while using its speed.....anyways, if i have my attention on every manta dat would run me over, i probably would kill 70% of them but dats not the case and smart manta pilots use the element of surprise after all mantas are fairly hard to turn(skilled manta pilots turn their manta very well).....its just that mantas are vehicles dat u use when someone is not expecting u.....my big thing in ons is dat i'm a threat w/ any vehicle and even on foot since i play dm.....so i'm ur standard jack of all trades when it comes to ons........dats why i did good on those games

btw.....i still think that lightning rods are quite overpowered......coz like i said they have PERFECT AIM......they hit multiple targets for alot of damage and for LA characters with high level surge, drip, and max adrenaline, they can pretty much run that and kill any enemy in around 5 seconds by just using that artifact......it does a lot of damage and it hits fast.........it hits like every half-second and hits every enemy in its vicinity........if it's use can be limited then dat would be great........since the lightning rod alone outweighs the LW and the MM's self-preservation special abilities in ons(since u want ur enemies dead and not in ur way which gives u free reign on a node)......in tdm or ctf, the special abilities are about the same since u would want to limit ur enemy's kills as well as get kills for ur team.

if u have trouble aiming then just spray him with a minigun while having the triple on........there is no way a medic can outheal this......its a rather cheap way to kill enemies but a dead enemy is a dead enemy regardless of the method used.
