Dan In Real Life is a great movie. It was actually surprising to me. I was expecting to laugh a little, go "awww," and forget that I ever saw it. Steve Carell and Dane Cook were excellent, I highly recommend seeing it.

Well, right now I don't have a very good review, but I recently saw American Gangster. Definitely one of the best (if not THE best) movies starring Denzel Washington. He portrayed the character so greatly, it was as if he had first hand experience with the life of a gangster. Thats all I have for now. Expect a more full review of at least 2 movies out this month, which would be National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and I Am Legend.

Count your blessings, man. It's a lot cheaper for PPV or video than the theater.

So I saw, I Am Legend this evening. I had very high expectations because it seemed like an amazing premise. The movie as a whole is good, different from many other survival/disaster movies. Will Smith is amazing in it, his best performance in my opinion, and the special effects (like the destroyed NY city) are pretty amazing. The story is interesting, but I thought it could be explained more than it was. It's easy to understand, but more of the backstory would have been nice. It's definitely a suspenseful movie, not necessarily scary, but my friends and I jumped in our seats many times. So if you're looking for a good above the average disaster or survival movie I would recommend this.

Some Spoilers possible

I may be biased, but I feel you underrated this movie. It was full of action, had some good comedy, along with one or two good messages. One message is that in our society, we aren't too far from a similar situation as in the movie. People are capable of anything, especially when it involves a loved one who is suffering (ie Cancer, as in the movie). It also makes you wonder what it must be like to live like that for 3 years, and how one can get by with a dog as your only companion (too sad about Sam ). Will Smith portrayed that role incredibly, nearly flawless. He even displayed the paranoia factor as if he had a real experience (the mannequin). And the suspense I felt throughout the entire movie, well lets just say . I definitely can't wait for the DVD, so that I can see the deleted scenes. All in all, I highly recommend this movie for everyone, especially fans of Will Smith, and those that read the novel it was based on (I'm currently looking now lol).

Hope this helps out your decision to see the movie. Next review from me will be National Treasure: Book of Secrets, followed by AVP: Requiem.

I Am Legend was a good movie. Will Smith seemed perfect for the main role. But it seemed a little bit too much like Wells Last Man on Earth, but good and scary over all. And it's not a horror/action until someone close to the main character dies. (But why Sam?)

Went and saw this on Friday. Man, this movie had huge potential! Buuut, then it choked. Bad. I should say that the first 98% of the movie is awesome, brilliant, tastey, and in all other ways a great flick. Wil Smith plays his role perfect and it's a wicked freaky chain of events. And how they did Time Square empty, along with the rest of Manhattan is truly chilling (especially to New Yorkers, I'd guess). But, inspite of it's incredible beginning and middle, this film falls flat on its face in the final 5ish minutes. The ending felt forced to the scale of "well guys, the writers guild just went on strike...we've almost got it done but we need an ending...you there, with the mop, yes, please write us an ending and be snappy about it."

...Yeah, it was painfully harsh. The wombat was greatly displeased.

Anyway, heres my suggestion. Go see the movie in a theater (cuz the good part is totally deserving of a big screen/sound) but then, just as the final scene starts, take that potty break that you've been holding off. As you walk to the bathroom, think of how you want the movie to end, I assure you it'll be better than what you're missing!

Anyway, I guess I'll stop ranting and go to bed!

cheers.

Eh, I'll agree with that last bit. The end was kind of pushed. They could have done a lot more dramatic, but it did sort of choke there.
P.s. did the lead darkwalker look like GOWs General Ram to anyone else?

I normally don't comment much on movies mostly because at times I don't agree with the general consensus or critics... that said, went to see this movie yesterday - and I must have been under a rock because I didn't know it was a zombie movie.

a) I like zombie movies (my wife doesn't)
b) I have seen most zombie movies (good, bad, mediocre, it matters not)
c) as far as zombie movies go, this one is very decent - with several huge gaping holes (i.e. no squirrels, cats or rats in NY?)
d) this is the third making of this movie: The Las Man on Earth (1964) and The Omega Man (1971) - and 28 Days After borrowed a lot from the same source.

I did like the ending or at least the premise... but I'll agree with Wombat that it was weak in execution. It's almost like Will Smith decided at the last minute that he wouldn't be making the sequel (it could have had one a la "28 Days / Weeks")

My main issue with the movie is that the suspension of disbelief was broken up too many times with things that plain didn't make sense - so you find yourself asking obvious questions that go unexplained.

Just saw Eastern Promises. The movie was incomplete. Not sure how they released it this way, but it lacks an ending.

I just saw The golden compass. It was a huge dissapointment. Not that the film was so bad, but I couldn't judge from the title that it is not a complete story, but just one part of a trilogy. I felt really deceived (I wouldn't watch it if I knew it would not end). To top it off, it has been renamed in US to Golden Compass (originally called Northern lights which would actually fit a lot better with the story) so I really had no way to figure it out that it was just a part of a bigger whole.

Now to the film, acting is decent (Nicole Kidman is just great), sound effects are superb. The scenery and the camera are beautifull. Awesome work on lighting the scenes! The story has a lot of potential, but unfortunately it was not realised. There are a lot of moments where it should go deeper, but it doesn't. The deamon idea is great, but it doesn't evolve like it could. You are left with a feeling that something is missing. I can't say more without some spoilers, so I won't be specific. Oh, and I went bananas at the end (because it doesn't end).

So, a film with a promising story, promising budget, actors, effects and scenery, but leaves a lot to desire. I'd rate it 6/10 (7/10 if they would put "part 1" in the title)

WELL...
Just saw I am Legend just now.....

Gotta agree with the others here, Will Smith was excellent in it, he pulled off the paranoia role excellently....Graphics=great,
Story and disaster scenes were very nicly done
Suspense and jumping in the seat was great...and frequent at some points.....alot....(dropped a chocolate I was eating..dang it...)

But alas the ending...so...abrupt...and unsuitable(is that the right word?)...
Id like to seen more background story....along with an alternate ending (DVD anyone?)

But all in all a 7¼/10 Id say.......8/10 but the ending....
Id recommend it by all means.........but dont take the kids......nightmaaaaaares

Movie brought 3 things to mind as well:
1) Bob Marley!! woo! Great music...
2) Our front door isnt that sturdy
3)Its getting dark...>_>....

Also

Majority of its previews didnt give that idea...only saw one(in theatre b4 national treasure) that hinted it...And only figged it out cus gf saw it first..(her friend tricked her when it first came out..told her it was comedy...poor girl..)

Ps Why Sam!!Why!

Next...
=======================================

*SPOLIERish...maybe....depends*

National Treasure :Secret book...Saw this...on Christmas day actually
Doesnt persay live up to it predecessor ...there are some parts which make you feel its better than the original, but then more points that disappoint by doing something complicated the easy way...and easy things difficultly

There were interesting continuations from the first such as Ben being well regarded finding huge treasure....well to begin with then stuff happens...ppl then dont for a bit

There were some repeative ideas of course..(dont read further if you dont want to know..)
For example:
Riley gets his shining moment of glory again....
Abigale gets used against Ben again..(Doesnt the love interest always?)...
Simple things were complicated and more complicated things were simple....Id say...

In the end..Ben breaks a few laws...again..
gets the Girl..again
Finds the goods..and they all live happily ever after...
(cept for the dead guy...)

Decent movie .....Id see it...wait ....
Anyways 6½/10...

Btw anyone else think the sequel tried to suggest a sequel....?

Saw 'I Am Legend' over Christmas week. I actually didn't think the special effects were all that great. When you see the creatures running, it looked really fake as if they were put on top of the original film and were sliding around. They also didn't have much detail. That's nit picking, I know, but with today's CG technology, I would expect more. I agree with the ending. It just happens all of the sudden. Most of the movie isn't too bad seeing how a lone person survives in New York. I sorta felt like I was watching a different version of 'Cast Away'. I wanted to call the manican, Wilson. I would say the movie is better for renting then spending the money for the theatre.

Question about the movie which could spoil it for those who haven't seen it; the military destroys the bridges connecting the island to the mainland and I'm assuming if they want to close off the island, they would of done the same to the tunnels. How did that lady and boy drive onto the island and then get off again with the vehicle?
