Ok this Idea mostly came from a server that I played on because the DC server was full or they were playing on a big vehicle map. This was a capture the flag server and everyone had the ability to make sentinel turrets which costed so many sentinel parts which were found across the at random times the boxes would appear places and then disappear after a set amount of time. So after u made the turret u could upgrade it to certain wepends like the bio, flack, rocket mini gun etc. which would cost more sentinel parts that u found across the map and u could also upgrade things like its armor its sensors to see targets further away. I was thinking that maybe u could replace the sentinel parts with adrenaline or not depends on what u want to do if u even like this Idea I can go back to the server and do more research and take some screen shots to give u a better idea of this whole thing.

*Update*: Heres some screen shots for a better idea of this. And maby u could limit this idea to not be so powerful that everyone else has to make one to just get some xp.

I say we not use Sentinels and come up with a better idea and make it ourselves so we don't have to give credit for it .

I've got another suggestion something similar to the boxes but diff concept. INstead of the Sentinels I liked the other suggestion you made on boxes with set adrenaline ammounts in them along with health and maybe a mulitplier with damage. Just a thought from me.

I do so hate to be a thread killer, however, these Sentinels dont work so well with RPG.

I do want to make Sentinels in some form for the engineers to create.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Can the sentinels work in the same way as a pet? I'm sure someone can come up with a box shaped "pet", and they move or don't move. I mention the pet angle because they can be targeted by monsters and destroyed by same and pets work just fine in RPG.

You mean I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?

might actually be the best idea so far, I think it would work but would need parts of serveral pre existing classes (or could make new ones)

Like I said before, let us make our own. That way, we won't have to give credit for it, or even ask permission. At the same time, it allows us to quickly and freely modify the code in the case that something doesn't work with the rest of the code environment, or simply to add new features.

Am I right?

And besides, Sentinels are what people expect. Just like how people expect a car launcher. We need to be different; it is the only way to survive. And different in more than the way of having awesome server administrators and a community others envy .

So are you volunteering?

That depends on if it's an application to be part of the team.

It is unlikely that we will find a solution that exactly fits in with what Druid wants for his RPG, so wherever we start from, there will be a certain amount of modification required.

The base UT2004 already includes sentinels and turrets. We just need to adapt them to fit in with what Druid wants.
  • Have some way of creating them. Possibly using the translocator. Possibly some other way
  • The ones that are automatically controlled will need the controller adapting to target monsters, and be targeted by monsters. This can be done in the same way that monsters and pets interact
  • Automatic ones need to give experience etc to the creator. Manually fired turrets need to give xp etc to the user (and perhaps the creator?)
  • It needs a set of abilities to scale what people can get. Probably done in a similar way to pets with an ability deciding what turrets are available to you, then turret points, turret armour, turret fire power etc to improve what you can do.
  • Perhaps need to develop extra types of turrets. These could be essentially the same as the sentinel and link turrets, but with different weapon fire e.g. variants of shock, flak, even ion painter.
  • It needs to be extensible, so that other people can add additional types of turret without recoding the class

So, it is all pretty much achievable based upon code in UT2004, in the UT2004RPG and in DruidsRPG. It is really only the launching that requires something different.

But first, I think it needs a clearer definition from Druid as to what sort of sentinel/turret option he is after.

They shouldn't give experience. That way, we can start up debates about it on here !

But yeah, sounds good. I still think we should make our own. The difference?

With Sentinel: "DC got Sentinels on here! Sweet!"

With Something We Make: "WOAH! I've never seen these before! How do they work? I should try them out! I can't imagine how much work they put into this!"

    Peh.
