Keybinds to automatically discard certain weapons?  XML

the search has not helped me.

As an LW there are certain weapons I tend to discard to make wheel based switching a bit smoother such as the goo gun and RL.

Can a button be set to automatically discard a preset series of weapons or must one select and drop each weapon one by one? Since getting LW 5 it tends to take me a bit longer then I'd like to get myself situated.

The response has been that, for a variety of reasons ("Mysterial made it that way cause he wants it to" and "that's just the way the code works out"), you can't:

- Reference specific weapons that reside in "slots" with other weapons, IE, the Grenade launcher, which also lives in the Flak's slot

- Auto scroll through your weapons using a "piped" keybind

I know theoretically what the keybind would look like (because I've tried to build it multiple times). But it just doesn't work.

eek thats rough ... it gets kinda rough in later waves trying to scroll through everything and shed the dead weight before a nali comes and wacks ya from behind. I've already died a couple times trying to get rid of those slot co-locaters

Thankyou for the response though BotFodder... I guess I'll get quicker at it as I get more used to it

Idea: instead of using the wheel, bind your weapons to the keys around the four you use for movement. Then you can switch straight to the weapon you want. Check the keybind thread for more tips.

thats what I used to always do but since I moved and scrapped my old desk last year the one I have now is very uncomfortable for playing UT and untill I finnish work in my basement I'm not going to be fitting anything more comfortable. I have acouple that I need to be pulle dout real quick like the sniper but I cant really see a good pattern for many of them.

Though I guess it could help just for that initial dump.

Here's what I use ...

A = Jump
E= Forward
D = Backward
S = Left
F = Right
C = Crouch

Space = Activate artifact
W/R = Scroll artifact
Q = Mini
G = Flak
B = Rocket/Avril
T = Superweapon
V = Voice
X = Translocate
Z = Sniper

With this set up I've gotten used to just using 1-5 for the weapons normally in those slots. I have a mouse button for throwing artifacts, and another for throwing weapons.

Other mappings are usually only used when dead, or I have a moment to do more than run (float?) screaming in the other direction from something.

So when I first pop up as my WM, it's usually something along the lines of:

G (G?) Toss 3 (3?) Toss B (B?) Toss Z Z (Z?) Toss

The goal being (usually - there are occasional exceptions) to get rid of my Bio, Grenade Launcher, Rocket, and the lesser of the two sniping weapons.

You'll notice that I don't worry about getting rid of much else. I used to toss my Assault Rifle, but someone usually asks for it, and with these mappings, I can quickly navigate to whatever weapon I want (usually only attempting, not always successfully, to scroll when it's a slot away).

The key setup is equally effective for me in all characters (the WR setup allows me to move through artifacts/monster summons with some degree of speed).

Yes, I would agree binding weapons to buttons is very helpful.

Around my WASD, I have...

Q = Translocator
G = Rocket launcher (been contemplating changing this to flak)
Z = Toss weapon
X = Superweapon
Control = Lightning/sniper
Space = Shock

On the non-weapon front...

E = Use artifact
Up arrow/Down arrow = Up/Down through artifacts
Delete = Toss artifact
C = Crouch
Shift = Jump
F = Voice chat
Middlemouse = Mine layer (which I should change since I don't play LW anymore)
And of course the scrollwheel goes through my weapons.

I might be a little better off if I had a more-than-3 button mouse, or if I took the silly voice menu off of V, or the teamsay off of R. Maybe I should bind something to alt as well.

I hope this isn't hijacking the thread... but having a lot of weapons bound around your hand(s) helps a lot.

hmmm......my keybinds are as follows:

normal WASD

F - flak (i usually toss grenade launcher)
X - Lightning gun ( i usually toss sniper rifle coz my lg is my main nali-shooting weapon)
C - rockets/avril (i keep the rockets if i'm medic, if im LW then i use the avril)
R - use artifact (I don't usually need to scroll thru my artifacts since i prepare my artifacts every start of the wave)
Q - Translocator

TIMMY - LW character
TIMMY_MD - LM character
TIMMY_LA - LA character

I have a few binds but really dont use any of them (except for calling medics)

For switching weapons I normally use the wheel but can reach 3 (bio/mines) and 4 (shock), the LG and Sniper are set to lowest priority so I can switch to best weapon and then quickly pull out a flak or mini or pull out the sniper or lg. Super weapons are just below translocator so I also have quick access to them...
