Stephen: Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
Hamish: "Your island"? You mean Ireland?
Stephen: Yeah. It's mine.
Hamish: You're a madman.
Stephen: I've come to the right place then!

Funny. I think, "Me want to kill!" all the time!

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

I think its sad how the media links games to volience and other things. But really games are used to blow off steam. Maybe all the volience is coming from the everyday world.. (not gonna start nameing.)
Its not like we lack the knowledge of whats real an whats a game. Yea it would be fun to drive a manta around the street an carry a Flak cannon like it was just a lollie pop.. but we all know that not gonna happen

I've posted here how clueless my local news can be...the "consumer report" did something on summer games for kids the other night, mostly based on movies. Over the Hedge and Pirates of the Carribean were included.

One of the anchors seemed shocked that a game wherein the object wasn't mass murder even existed in the first place.

I'd love to see them start blaming UT2k4 for something, we've got the perfect excuse to be doing what we're doing.

We're helping to control the population of nalis so that terrorists can't use them for assassins anymore. That, and working towards the genocide of all titans, but that's a perfectly valid reason considering how many people each year die from massive head trauma by giant flying rocks.

But seriously (not too seriously, I hope), I think of 'violent' video games as a way to vent and blow off steam, not a way to influence my mind into thinking mowing down people at Wal-Mart with a semi-automatic shotgun was like shooting nali with a flak cannon.

Sorry if that last paragraph violates the rules as all, I'll modify if anyone would like me to.

If Tom has 5 Apples and Suzie has 7 apples, how tall is Matt? (There is a real answer to this question)

Actualy we all know how us gamers just one day snap and lose all judgement of what is reality compared to our games, go on a killing spree or plan a bombing. Relly, please

This kind of thinking can make me sooooo angry, I deal with steriotyping all day. It is to the point where I can't watch the news every day.

Well....mostly what videogame does is dat it allows us to relieve stress....we've all had conflicts with other people and games are a way to just make us forget about our problems for a tiny bit.....media blames violence on games due to ignorance since they dont play games........all the media has to do is look at themselves and they'll see that they can influence people more than video games and well......most of the time the reality is the one dat's responsible for making violent people the way they are.....there are obviously exceptions but cmon.....most people who commit a visceral acts against other people are mostly influenced thru their environment/neighbourhood.....not because of videogames lol.

It's not safe to generalize - not "all media" sees gamers this way, and increasingly the opposite is true. Gaming is more mainstream now than ever and is just as legitimate as television and movies.

In fact, when gaming is totally "normal", gamers themselves will complain because they won't be different anymore. They'll miss the days when they were geeks and had their own geeky culture. They'll get mad because they get lumped in as ditto heads of the britney spears pop culture crowd.

I dont think that would happen, because I think that with different types of games different type of people play it. Depending on the game type, settings, playability and difficulty all of that will draw different types of gamers

Dip, gamers always have done this. It's always been competive in one form or another. Normally, shy, apparently meek gamers never like to admit it.

Back in the Street Fighter days, we were "elite" and everyone else was just fooling around. We laughed at everyone else. And before that, in the 80s, there were the guys that could beat those old skool games, like Neuromancer on the C64. Anybody that can beat Neuromancer deserves a hall of fame pass, IMO.

But we're collectively geeky still. Personally, I think it's a good thing. But others will lament that they aren't "accepted". But if/when they are considered "normal", well, expect them to lament the good ol' days when they were different, did their own thing, distinquished themselves when gaming wasn't mainstream or popular. They paid their dues!

Grumpy old man: "When I was a boy we didn't have these ergonomic gamepads. We played Metroid with a pair of electrodes hooked up to a car battery and some broken glass for a joystick and if ya got cut up, well TOO BAD, ya was all cut up, and ya sat their bleedin' all over the controller and crying that ya felt faint. And when ya passed out from blood loss we wiped the blood off the controller with a rusty spoon and the next guy took a turn and if ya died we didn't care. We just pushed your corpse into a garbage can. And the garbage can was full of rusty sharp edges and ya got all cut up. That's how it was back then.

AND WE LIKED IT." <pounds fist>

We already have a minor verson of this, I hear all the time things like: when did you start gaming? What was the first game that you finished?
