Well gang it looks like I'll be out for a few days. Something is up with my computer screen. It won't turn on along with the rest of my computer so I can't chat or play at the moment. Any suggestions from all you computer wiz people out there? Well luckily I still have this beaten up but very reliable fire and water tolerant Laptop which has served me well. So I suppose I can communicate to you all through here on the net. Take care all and I hope to be back in the swing of things.

Does the monitor normally turn on when you power the computer? If so, the monitor's separate on/off switch may have been turned off. I know this sounds simplistic, but when you are used to something working one way for a long time, one tends to forget or not think of the details.

Let us know and we'll try to help (hopefully the monitor is not fried)

Yeah all I can suggest right now is the simple stuff: check all the plugs, make sure they're plugged in ... try the power button ...

You might try reseating all of the plugs (some monitors/flatscreens have a video cable that plugs into both the screen as well as the computer, as opposed to hardwired, so reseat both ends).

Pop your computer open and reseat your video card ...

That's pretty much all I can think of right now ...

with the computer off, turn off then turn on the monitor and see if anything happens. (some monitors have a screen that will say RGB or NO SIGNAL or simply a box that says the monitor is working.)
My flat screen has to have the plug going to the monitor unplugged than plugged back in sometimes to work right.
If the monitor is working, try running the comp. then hit the degauss button on the monitor (if you have one). Or reset then try to go into safe mode blind. (F8 I think, then hit the 2 button then enter) That may help if the card is having a problem with a driver or something.

I get similar problems, but only when I'm gaming for some 6 hours straight or so. I'll be running along a level, shooting things like normal, and my computer seems to randomly go into 'standby' mode, even though I have every key that could possibly do that disabled on my computer, because I'm sick of hitting Standby when I simply meant to hit Escape.

Personally, I've never found a solution for this problem short of restarting, but that doesn't seem to of worked for you. This problem intrigues me, and I might look into it, see if I can help in case this stuff doesn't work.

Good luck getting your monitor working, and ya gotta love durable electronics!

Icey, a few things to try:

-update your video drivers
-update your BIOS
-check your fans (could be a cooling/over-heating issue)

I got the impression your comp isn't turning on either. If that is the case I would suggest taking a look at your power supply.

Well on the NOrm I just power my computer up and the screen comes on and if I ever powered down the computer screen would just go back to standby. Hmmm. Well I've tried unplugging and re pluggin everything in then turning on my computer. I tried turning off my computer screen and my Computer then turn on the computer seperately then turn on the computer screen. I've also tried just turning the screen on and off which hasn't worked either. That's about it. I might try some of your suggestions today. Well thanks for the suggestions so far guys and any future gals that may input some info.

The only other suggestion (if it has already been brought up, sorry for the dup) is to plug the monitor into your laptop. Also when you turn on your monitor, do you get a green light for power? After everyone chimes in on the ideas, I have one last ditch before you go out and buy one. On the left or right hand side of the case, give it a smack. This is not a joke, my last monitor I had problems of waves and lines and then it would go black for a bit and I would smack the you know what out of it and it would adjust and come back on. This bought me about 6-9 months more with that monitor.

Also if you live in Michigan (Metro Detroit area), I can bring by a no charge 17" for you. Why would I do this? Because you are Fire!

unless you tried using a different monitor, it could be a bad video card. If you have a 2nd jack to plug the monitor in your video card, try that. Otherwise, you may need to get a new video card.

If you have a cable that plugs from your video card to your laptop, you can try using your laptop screen to verify if it works. Otherwise, look closer at your video card.

If you aren't getting a power LED, period, disconnect the vga from your comp and try it. Still nothing, try trading your desktop and monitor power cords if they're the same. If you get the power LED, it's the power cord, otherwise, your monitor is most likely dead. Sorry. Luckily it's 2006, and monitors are relatively cheap nowadays.

Well gang I've tried most of it and radicalrom if you send it to me I'll pay you 50 + if it works. Otherwise I saw this one for 200 on newegg Well anymore suggestions are helpful and I hope to high heaven it's not my vid card. As far as the on off thing goes I get it to turn green for a few seconds when I turn the screen back on then it goes to amber again no matter what order I turn the screen on it always goes back to amber. I think my vid card is ok but I really can't tell and my laptop all though reliable even after having been through a fire and 300 gallons of water later still works well. BUt not that many hook ups on it. Well I guess that's it. For any of you that need my addee for any reason feel free to PM me and I'll be glad to give it to yah. But yeah Radrom I'd still be glad to get that screen if you're still offering. lol. From michigan to MOntana all the way baby. woof wooooof
