Just curious if DC has ever held a tournament, or if it has been considered.

With so many great players on this server, it'd be fun and interesting to see some type of tournament. (friendly competition of course)

Heck, I'd be happy to just spectate whilst the top players battle it out. Not sure what the rules would be...round robin, single elimination based on score, point-based contest rewarding various accomplishments....

Anyhoo, just throwin' it out there.

1v1 TAM Tourney.

Easy to hold (all you need is a server for 2 people, then however many speccs you want).

Or there could be a 3v3 TAM tourney.

There are many possibilities. I guess its up to whoever would be hosting it.

Quotes of the ancient Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship."

"Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless."

I'd play.

As far as wep speed a couple of practice rounds usually gets me adjusted to "normal"

I think it's a good idea. I suggested it about a month ago, so you know I would be down for the throw down.

Fact is, any sort of tournament would greatly affect the general populace of the server. So if you really want it, you need to present ideas and practical ways that it can be done. I've thought about it a lot. I don't think we could do it without a seperate server.

Doing it on DC would mean kicking people off for matches and such. It just wouldn't work. Contributors expect to play, for example.

There's a lot of logistics, as well. I could handle most of them, but the fact is, it would require me to impose on mods and Dru/Shan, which I'm very reluctanct to do. Leastwise, not without their blessing and endorsement.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be AWESOME. And, man, if I could be involved, even as so much as just being the official or spectator, I would enjoy it. But, there are other people to factor, and their opinions are equally important.

Most people withe the high RPG skills have been neglecting their 1V1 way of playing and would be at a disadvantage there.

Well, as for the difference in skills/levels and the awesome talents of several DC players (none to be named of couse), let's set the tournament up using no magic weapons, artifacts, and inflated skill levels. This would level the playing field for all players who want to try their luck. Of course, we would use invasion maps and no head to head competition for obivious reasons. May the highest score win.

Tournament would be player against player Demonslayer..

Altough we have high levels and low one. What we could do is 3v3. We register somewhere and give like 2 weeks. Then choose the correct number of team leaders with about the same skills. And they choose their teammates.

Thats how we did on a LAN party last year.

Actually, if everyone want to do the Trip to Montreal, Bring your stuff and well do that at my house!!

Having both run non-official tournaments before as well as participated in them, I can tell you from experience that planning and SCHEDULING is the absolute most important thing to have set up.

Especially if you plan on teams. There is nothing more annoying than having only half your team show up on the day of the match.

Substitutes can be a godsend in that case; e.g. players who don't have much time and sign up just to be a sub when someone else can't play.

Communication between teammates is also really important; people with mics will have a huge advantage, as well as those with Teamspeak or Ventrilo servers. Xfire is also a plus for between matches and for setting up practices.

As for what the tournament would be, I'm all for a DM, TDM, TAM, or CTF tournament. I'd be willing to help set-up the schedules, map rotation and whatever else if this actually goes through.

Even if its not an organized tournament it would be kind of fun to have one of us set up a listen server like once a week or so. It wouldnt even have to be the same person hosting each week, just post a thread with the time youll have it up and a password. Then people could respond saying they would be there ect...

not an origional idea (beyond unreal does it fridays / saturdays)

If we did this for a while maybe once there were some regulars we could organize a tournament for a later date.

I would be great it a clan had a server in which they didnt use it all the time and they played in here too. Then we would be able to just go thier and if other clan memebers join, i dont think they would care because thier getting the server up and giving it use. Its not like we would take it over

Anyone else think thats a good idea?
