the huge ONS maps are very frustrating. the first couple waves can take sometimes upto 20 mins...

this is only bad on the big maps though, and some of them arent to bad (like torlan).

well, i was just wondering

Allow the majority of players on the map at the time to decide if they are going to play ONS maps.

Exactly....!

I get tired of hearing people want to change the map because they cant sit in one spot and rack up as many points as they could on a 1v1 map. If the map gets voted on just play it

If the map has any major problems go ahead and vote to change it but just being an ONS map shouldnt really automatically mean its a bad map. (although it is true the fps can drop on a good part of them no argument there)

Also if the map is so bad that it can't be played post something in the forums about it so it can be removed and then you don't have to worry about that one anymore.

Still, I have to agree with toofpick. the larger ONS maps get really frustrating really quick. It's hard to find any of the monsters on them, and even when you do, others may already have killed them and you're just finding the dead ones about to disappear.

I tend to agree with the frustration of the huge maps.

However, this is not the world according to me. Maps are voted in on a Democratic basis. Vote for what you want and the most votes win. Thats the way it is. If a map comes up that you don't like.....it ain't the end of the world. Go do something else 'till its over.

If you have a complaint about one map in particular, then post it as its own post. Maps will only be considered for deletion individually.

It may also interest some people to know that due to the way UT2004 is configured, if you include a map for one gametype (e.g. onslaught), you cannot eliminate it from another (e.g. invasion).

Although I know it's democratic, I also know democracys can still make mistakes.

I hate the vast majority of ONS maps. Primevial is decent. Dria is simply horrendous. Even a map like Torlan is torture for me personally, and I drop off and come back later. But at least with Torlan, there was a time when I was around level 40 and I enjoyed it (I was able to get more exp at that level playing ONS than playing DM because I could stay in a raptor the whole time and not die.)

I suggested Pacman as a compromise and so far the response has been very good. People of all stripes seem to enjoy that map, even though the first five waves are kind of slow still. I think ONS can be fun with a map like that and even maps 2 - 3 times that size. Beyond that... dunno.

Maybe I'll try to find a few more like that so everyone can live in peace...

Although, if this democracy makes a mistake, it only lasts 45 minutes. I think we can cope with that.

Why cant there be peace no mater what type we play?

One of those big map lasted for 1h and was still not ended. 1h for less than 11 waves is very, very frustrating...

Im an ONS hater too. But when the map is too big and boring i just leave, it gives me time to do dishes and stuff

That's the main problem. The time that it takes for each ONS map to get through the waves. If we are going to play on ONS maps, at least make them the smaller ones. Still it is all a vote that decides the map change. But if you get enough votes, it can change mid game, right?

Enough for voting (be it kick or map) requires "more than half" of the players on voting the same thing. In terms of map voting, I think more than half have to vote for the same actual map (it *may* be that half only need to vote for a change, but not necessarily the same map). So yes, it can change ... it just sucks sometimes that it takes them so long to figure out they want to change the map ...

If more than half of the folks want to stay there, then I guess I get to go play some GalCiv2.

I'm all for map changes when there's a problem, I just don't like the constant "vote this map off" reminder every thirty seconds. Once is enough, maybe twice, after that it becomes harassment and chat spamming. Don't tell me to place that person on ignore, that's not the point, it only needs to be said once and if it's not voted off then go do something else and quit bugging us. Go bully the weird kid down the block. There is always dishes and clothes to be washed, heck, throw the dishes in with the wash and see what happens, or go help Kitfox with his.

I like ONS because it's a welcome change from the same 15 maps that we always play.

Same here, ONS maps rarely get voted for so when they do get voted why not just play it. As for length they seem to be slightly longer but Ive never seen one take an hour to finish, usually a normal map takes about 20 -30 min and under normal curcumstances you can add 5-10 min for an ONS map as long as there are a few people roaming the map. On the other hand if it is a map with several mantas then it might actually take less time to finish.

I agree. Take Primevil for example. It's like a large DM level, but it's big enough to be called ONS. We should use the smaller maps and get rid of the really giant ONS ones.

I like ONS because I am not fighting someone 1 to 2 hundered levels higher than me to kill every creature that spawns. Its nice to line up on a creature and not have some on jump between you and It and take your shot away, or worse yet slide in front of you just as you let go your burst of 3 rockets killing you in the splash. I also like to have plenty of room to manuver, I tend to die when I can't dodge.

Despite the fact that I usualy die, I get more experiance on a ONS map than I see on one of the small 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 maps that a good number of the high score records are based on.

It is very annoying having the map that the majority voted in voted out before all of the players have finished downloading it. I could easily do the same thing, I usaully have to wait for all of the other players to load the map, but I consider that weasaly (sorry weasels).

As for lag from big maps, Im sorry, I have a very fast computer and It takes a lot to make me see my fps drop, but I don't vote for ONS very often, I do like to play on them ocasonaly.

Most of all, I hate being inundated with 5 rounds of 2 people complaining about the map when no one else is willing to vote it off.

please excuse me If this came off as a rant, It probably was, but don't take it personaly. It wasent meant that way.
