First of all, my mic works. I use it for Teamspeak and Ventrillo. I know to push f by default. And when I do push f I get a channel ID that I'm broadcasting in, and a Eq type gauge indicating volume level that redlines. I can't figure out what to check and uncheck in my setting for anyone to hear me. This is driving me crazy. Feel free to talk to me like an idiot, other than above mentioned things I am doing correctly. It might be hardware related on some level, this is a screenshot I took after I started this project. Notice the "enemy" Jakob without a gun.

edit: Removed screenshot. I think it was a whole other issue anyway. I can use my mic in single player to command bots. My mic works fine. I just can't get in the right channel or something to talk to you guys.

Not really sure about what you should check. Maybe you should just go through the settings and click or unclick things that may be the problem. I tried it and fixed the problem on mine through random guesses. But the gun problem happens to me as well. Maybe it's just a glitch that happenes.

Furry and proud of it!

So have you had anyone hear you yet off of it, or do they just see your icon? You may know this, but to make the mic work in UT it first needs to be configured in Windows. Go into My Computer, then on the left you should see an option for Change a Setting, or could be Control Panel. Either way your next step is to go into the Sound and Audio Device option. From here go to the audio tab, make sure that the sound recording is switched to your headset, it may be set right now as your default speakers. Then go into the Voice tab and also make sure voice playback and recording are on your headset. The last step is to Test Hardware at the bottom of that tab, it'll tell you if it's working and you should hear you voice. After that's configured, it should be fine for UT. Hopefully I didn't repeat anything you've tried, but anyway I hope it helped!

Edit: Well if you've tried the windows method, the only other thing I can think of is to make sure that all the channels are clicked on in the settings... not much else I know of.

There are a lot of folks who don't listen to the "local" channel - "public" or "team" should get you heard.

I have every channel opened. I sometimes play Lan with friends in other rooms (my friends house has LOTS of SMALL rooms).

Quotes of the ancient Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship."

"Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless."

"Lost a planet Master Obi-Wan has. How embarrassing..."
