Apologies: If this is already in a FAQ somewhere, I couldn't find it:

How do you clone (magic) weapons for distribution to other players? I've benefitted many times from others' generosity, and now I'd like to start sharing the wealth.

Does cloning require a particular character class or aritfact? How is it done?

As long as there is no * after the weapon name (Vorpal shock 7* ect) all you need to do is toss your weapon (the "\" key by default) then run just pick up that weapon again from it's spawn point. You will always pick up that weapon until you have been killed or the map changes.

Ha. That seems simple enough. I'm interested whether it will work the same way if I'm using the "loaded weapons" skill, but I can figure that out by experimenting.

What Continuum said works with loaded weapons.

So long as the weapon doesn't have an asterisk, it doesn't matter how you come by a weapon, it is cloneable.

And since nobody mentioned it, the reason they are talking about a non-starred weapon is that the starred weapons, such as the "Vorpal shock +7*" are ones which you can drop and potentially pick that very same exact weapon up from where you dropped it, but if you pick up another weapon, either from a weapon spawn point, or one that somebody dropped/tossed, you end up with that different weapon. And if you have dropped that starred weapon by accident and happened to have picked up a different one from where someone had died, well, you better make a quick decision of which one you want, and do some more tossing real quickly so you can pick up the one you tossed by accident before it disappears.

BTW... this is a great way of getting rid of starred weapons you don't like. For example, if you tend to poison yourself with that poison flak or RL, well toss it away (hopefully to someone who wants it) and go grab a different one. That different one will follow the same randomness you have been seeing without LW, and will see with what ever level of LW you have. So, you may get the same thing, you may get a cursed/negative one, or you may hit the jackpot and get just the one you wanted. All upto the PNG (Pseudo-random Number Generator) and the RPG code.
