This topic seems to come up about every other month. I'd like to drop the nail (or Nali) in it once and for all.

There is *no rule* about kill stealing. IMO there's not even any etiquette about kill stealing...

Let me reiterate it... If I see a titan with low health, I'll target it first because less titans = less rocks.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

I've turned blue in the face trying to explain this myself more than once. It is not a game for the selfish that's for sure. How people think they can stake a claim to a monster in a room full of people shooting guns is beyond my ability to understand and I don't even care to try.

Oh, and the nali pun was good.

If at first you don't friccasee, fry, fry a hen.

Yes, I came to understand this one and reluctantly agree.

The only thing that made me grit my teeth about it is when there is a truely high level person on 15 titan in view, 10 of them are closer to the high level than the one you have put 15 shots into and he kills it with one shot and moves on to kill the others with 2 shots each. that said

I got over it.

Why people shouldn't worry about "Kill Stealing":

  • All XP is damage, not kill, based
  • The only XP awarded for the kill itself is 1
  • Even if the monster is targeting you, the quicker it's dead, the less likely you are to die

Why people still complain about "Kill Stealing":

  • Adren is awarded on a per kill basis (however, only one class really lives or dies on the Adren it gets: AM's; medics need it for monsters - a luxury IMHO - and only 10 for a medic weapon)
  • "Score" is awarded on a per kill basis - everyone wants "bragging rights"
  • Kill streaks award extra XP

Personally, I may complain about it in game, but not really seriously. Like calling a friend all sorts of dirty names - you don't really mean it like you would to a total stranger (I mean, were swearing legal ... the things I would end up calling 320 or Renius ... or any medic that was nicely healing me with a rocket launcher while I'm trying to head shot the Nali standing in front of me ...). But all in all, the only person I'm really seriously competing with is myself. I want to develop my characters into something that can last entire maps with a respectable XP rate.

But if you wanna lay claim, fine - I'll leave that Nali sneaking up behind you with the fully charged shield gun until after you're dead.

"And the only sound they'll hear is our laughter ... "

If it doesn't have a halo, I don't care if it's got a green, yellow or red bar over its head (awarness) I'm gonna keep hitting it till it's dead then move to the next one that is close enough to feel my wrath. While I'm out front keeping it occupied, feel free to come up behind it for a backstab and the kill, it matters little to me. In fact, I'v had a really nice freezing wep before (recently, I'v done this a couple of times) and there was a low level medic near me and a mob on the way, so I told them I'd freeze em, they kill em, heck I get a few xp and don't waste all that ammo, and the medic finishes them with their inf. weapon and levels so they can heal me faster later on. Good for all, and we survived very nicely.

  • I had to check with BotFodder to make sure I understood this, the "AM" part did not register as "LA"...doh. But I agree with that statement, and the rest of his post as well. But even though I, as a LA player may miss out on the "death surge" of adren, I may may joke about kill stealing, but that is all I will ever be doing. And this is even when I am trying to keep my globe going to survive the meteor swarm which seems to be coming my way...which is about as life-or-death as it could be in this game.

Seriously, folks, in this game, beside the fact that it is a game (i.e. not real life), for fun (stress - not life or death or worth getting bent out of shape over), and a team game (i.e. we only compete against the bugs and perhaps our individual selves). Even at the worst, all it does is means that we do not win the map, or a goal may be delayed, or it may take a bit longer to reach a goal. So IMNSHO, anyone who moans and groans about kill stealing is probably deserving of a good, swift kick to the six to place them head down in a big steaming pile of...shaving cream... (Got ya there, didn't I? Now who can tell me where that came from, or better yet, provide a MP3/WAV of it??)

Ummm...how much dammage does a wet noodle do, and is that a normal wet noodle, or a wet noodle of drowning +5??

And also, wouldn't the wet noodle stick to the frozen bug just like your toungue stuck to a metal pipe/pole as a kid??

It's the "Slashing Wet Noodle of Ignoring +5", and its just as tough as my limp legged, no muscle having medic.

"It's more of a nuisance than anything, like many buzzing mosquitoes."

    So watch yourself.

Glad I was not taking a drink when I read that one. I would have snerked and had a wet keyboard and monitor!

The reason I feel this has come up as of late is basically all the reasons stated in the "DC too easy" thread. More people are left alive, therefore competition for kills is that much greater.

    More people alive means:

1 - More shot spam, and late shots on a monster from players rushing over, which gets the kill shot because more guns are shooting at any given time.

2 - More people gravitating toward killshot strategies, like what Bot mentioned in another thread (using awareness).
