(this topic developed out of some convos in another thread - but those posts were slowly getting off topic)

Yes, we play Invasion, and we're all on the same team.

In some of the threads we've seen some playful banter that folks may have misinterpreted as something other than playful. The two instances in particular I refer to are:

  • 320 wanting me deemered on wave 16 'cause I was about to beat him
  • Any day Relius and I are on at the same time

    Let's first dissect 320's comment:

    1. It wouldn't have done any good anyway - I hadn't ghosted yet.
    2. He had commanded the scoreboard up until 16. And I mean commanded.

It's all in good fun though. 320's commenting on my increasing score only left the door open for me to rub his loss in his face.

    As for Relius:

Most of us, I think most would agree, are borderline ADD. Both Relius and I tend to get bored during those "tween wave" countdowns occasionally, and if I'm on, he likes to pop me in the head with his sniper. I of course then have to reciprocate ...

It's made all the more fun by any wave where one of us can pop the other from a distance - it's fun to watch the victim try to figure out where the shot came from.

I can't remember who did it ... but there was the day I was standing on the post at the end of the fence on Highlander, and someone popped up and shield gunned me off (not a far drop, just very much a "King of the Hill" thing).

    So I shocked him off.

It's all in good fun. Entertaining for all.

All part of team play, too. Say I came on as an AM - and there are still hours in the day when I'm the only AM on - I could very well spend all of my adren on myself. No maxing stuff for other people, no sharing weapons. If I was really that score obsessed, I wouldn't:

  • Play a medic to be sure
  • Spend multiple waves waiting by a weapon spawn point ready to throw out a good gun
  • Save my adren for making/maxing many weapons - I'd be running my triple far more often than I do

Finally, it all depends on your goal, really. You want a high score? Get a triple and awareness - let others pound on a monster but time it so you get the last hit. Yeah, sometimes I get fustrated when I'm on as my 104th level WM and I'm not killing any titans on a small map because KitFox is running speed and the triple and a decent flak, basically mowing down anything remotely monster-like in front of him. But as long as I get my fair share of XP, that's all that matters - let him have the points and adren (which I wouldn't need if I didn't have a triple).

I think that once again BotFodder (we are getting too many names which are too alike...gone are the days when I could just say Bot or Fodder ) has come up with a good thread!

Quite definitely...but it is probably more than just your two.

Borderline ADD??? You got to be kidding!! I would hate to see how many of us have either full blown ADD, or something like Asperger's Syndrome (AS). That latter is me...

So long as it is understood that it is all in the name of Fun...I have no problems with popping someone from a distance, especially with a warning such as "Hey Bot...here is one, right at your head..." in a playful tone. And I know there was mention about shield gunning someone off a artifact, and I posted a response about behaviour like that being what I consider to be bannable. On the flip side, coming up to someone on top of a hill, pulling out your shield, getting it going for a few, giving the other person a chance to react by pulling theirs out or saying no, and then given the OK going at it is a great bordom relief. Shoot, I don't even have problems with someone getting me with a deemer or ion...so long as it is clearly playful and there is little/no risk of me going flying off the map. Indeed, give me a bit of warning on some maps, and I will even try for a cheese shot! I used to have fun doing this with Ignetos. And some maps, I did not even have a problem with potentially dying (but the key is...ask first!)

It's all in good fun. Entertaining for all.

Indeed it is! Up until folks start whining to change "the rules" and nerf a class just because they think it is too powerful. (And yes, since I had not started until the LA players became the repeated target of that whining, I feel that I am justified in making my feelings known. Up until then, I was keeping quiet and trying to figure out how to keep up with Ooo when he could play many more hours than I could.)

I agree, so long as I improve my game to some extent and get my fair share of XP to reach my goals, I am quite happy. That is one reason why I have not picked up awareness. A high score is nice, but if I score 3000 and only get 200xp each game, it is going to take me forever to level. And if I do not level, I can only improve so much, and will also fall behind others as they level, which will make me more suceptable to things such as KitFox mowing down all the bugs before I can even get to them (yielding the negative feedback loop of lower and lower scores and slower and slower leveling).

I also have to admit that my goals have shifted a bit over the past month or so. In part this is due to the impending nerfing of the flak/rocket (and possibly some of the artifacts), and in part due to other factors which I will post about elsewhere. But the end result is I am getting to be less willing to wait around a long period of time to hand out a good weapon I happen to make, and I am using more of my adren for personal use as opposed to "for the team" (but again, read my other post as to some of the reasons why). Right now, my main goal is to get as many levels under my belt as fast as possible to get 250 adren, 80 damage bonus, and a couple more levels of leach. Beyond that, I don't know, as it in part depends on what happens to the way LA players are treated/thought of in the next month or two. I may just find myself continuing down this same path with slightly different goals, switching classes, or switching to play some ONS, CTF or DM on one of my old hangouts (which is something right now I would rather not do).

Did anyone else have the vision of Pyra's skin doing the little jig that the Bender skin does?

I'll admit that at first I had an image of em's skin doing it ops: ... then I got my names and skins straightened out ...

Sometimes I shield gun people, most of the time I just pelvic thrust them. Sometimes a little dance-off erupts.

ooh a kabuki jig, that'd be sweet! That's the only thing I wish my skin had... custom animations, ie: the martian. That would be so cool, but for now I'll just make up my own steps as I go along... well that is if Hobo provides me the rhythm

Good stuff, Bot. I initially started to write an in-depth reply, but the fact is, either people get it or they don't. It's all good.
