After playing ChaosUT2, I realized that relics were a great addition to the whole thing. And I was thinking hey, maybe they would be useful to the lower-level players.

ChaosUT2 had an option where you could substitute adrenaline and all things related for relics that were around the map. There were relics of Strength, Vampirism, Regeneration, Protection, Speed, and Vengeance. Vampirism is obvious, Strength made you do more damage, Regeneration had the constant effect of Level 5 Regen, Protection lowered damage done to you, Speed had the szame effect as the Adrenaline Combo of the same name, and Vengeance was a cool Ultima-style thing, where when you died, there would be a really cool "DIE!!!" and a bunch of evil spirits shot out of your body and entered your killer's, heavily damaging, if not killing, them.

Anyhow, I was thinking that these relics could be placed around the maps like in ChaosUT2, and you could pick them up as long as you were under level X, or alternatively didn't have the ability related (e.g. couldn't pick up Vampirism unless you didn't have it). It's all in the spirit of helping out the newbies (or just plain low-levels).

Mmm, I loved the original CUT. I have yet to play the new version, but if relics were kept, then it can't be too bad.

Do new players really have that hard of a time? I started off a level 5 character, and now I am a level 64 LW character (which is bad for someone who's been playing since 2004). I don't really think new players have that hard of a time.

As with any idea of this magnitude, it's hard to tell what the pros and cons would be, or the unforseen consequences.

Well, you may have started at level 5, but did that make things easy? Also, was it your first character?

Good point. We'll just have to test it and find those consequences out! But I already know. There will be DISASTROUS consequences! AHAHAHAHAHAHHA</stupid pun>

with the new classes ..leveling is statisticaly in the favor of a new player .

as the difficulty of the game is decreased with more classes added.....
simply u add 2 more classes breaking the lw stereo type. inventing new strategies or ways to progress.. statisticaly adding to the plus side to lower levels.. the way you play is up too you..either makeing or breaking your speed upon levels..

Elaborate that first line, please. How do classes make levelling up easier?

first im not a a good speller..so deal with it lol... sorry .

ok before thier was 1 class .LW,. We didnt get healers...or loaded artifact players to boost weapons... We were forced to either learn fast or die faster..

Now you add 2 more classes.. a healer.and a artifact class...statisticaly uping your odds of living..its like gambling ..
anywho .
once those 2 classes were introduced to the table. odds of winning the map or simply staying alive, went up 50 pct...

instead of seeking a health vial, most likely picked up from another injurd player.. we have medics running healing at sight..
And instead of just useing the weapon u have ,,we now have a chance of maxing its dmg out.. once again upping the odds of your survival. think about it.. makeing 2 more classes only helps the players to up your odds of winning.. overall makeing you level faster as apose to loseing exp when you die.your chances of survival are greater,.also makeing your odds of keeping your exp score,as apose to loseing some when you die.

Translation: Before, there was only one 'class'; Loaded Weapons.

My comments: First of all, it's technically not a class. Second, it was not around in the original UT2004RPG; it was added in to DruidsRPG. That made it much easier to survive in Invasion (or any gametype).
What do you say to that?

This is all about teamwork. Loaded weapons was just an 'Ooh-ahh I wanna be that when I grow up' kind of thing, which, actually, decreased teamwork slightly, but couldn't be removed because of its popularity (I don't know if they were going to or not, but...). Classes were introduced to remove the Every-Man-For-Himself aspect of it all.

That's a *good* thing! If they weren't healing, they'd probably be complaining that the next guy in line took their kill.

I personally didn't like that, actually... but it still increases teamwork, which is the name of the game.

Grammar Shammar

Ok, so on to the subject at hand. There's a lot of things I really like about the Chaos UT mods. I even toyed with code to try and make a melee master class (with the melee weapons).

The problem is the download is into the multi-hundred megabyte range compressed, and everyone would need it.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Does this remind anyone of Sigourney Weaver's part in Galaxy Quest?

I suppose technically the class is Weapons Master, but who wants to split hairs over it?

W00t! That is what I'm shooting for!

IMO it increased team play since higher levels could hand out guns to the masses.

I wonder how/why rumors like this get started...

I'm sure Shantara would beg to differ. I suspect she feels The Every-Woman-For-Herself aspect is much more fun. Then again... she is the velvet fist of doom.

Once the novelty wears off, my money is on that there will be an even distribution. You could always encourage players to switch to other characters if it would help the teamwork.

That's interesting. I don't often hear anyone care about who took who's kill.
I suppose it might happen, although my guess is that the people doing it also have autotaunt on.
