Hi all, I seem to be having quite the trouble with my 30gig video ipod. I've had it since christmas and it's honestly been kind of a hassle, so I was wondering if anyone may have some solutions to a bunch of my issues with it.

1) The first thing that's quite odd doesn't really have to do with the ipod, but my computer will never play the first song of any cd... so when I decide to import a cd I can't ever import the first song or my computer freezes, odd right?

2) One of the artists I put on the ipod was Depeche Mode, some of the music i have of theres does not contain the CD name while others do. My problem with this is when I put it into my ipod I cannot see the songs I put in Without the CD name, only the ones with it (this is looking under the artist folder). Because of that I either delete all the CD names so they all work and appear, or give them all the same CD title.

3) About a month ago I put about 2500 songs on my ipod in about a week, my problem was that I could not store all of that music because i did not have enough memory, so I hoped it wouldn't erase . Of course it did erase; it happened while the ipod was plugged in and I was in ITunes. I was transferring one song that I purchased off ITunes and my ipod turned to a Dark Blue screen with the apple logo on it. When the screen came back up all of my music was gone . The worst was that I could not put anything back into my ipod because it became Corrupted, so I had to Restore it. My question on this one is why would it do that? (My ipod and ITunes are fully updated, my USB did not come out, and my auto update songs feature is turned off so I can do it manually)

4) An update on the one above... I bought an external hardrive to store all my music which is great by the way... but again as I putting in an imported CD the ipod did the exact same thing as above. I'm so confused on why it does this.

5) I would always leave my Hold button on so it would stay off overnight, but in the morning when I wanted to turn it on it wouldn't. The hold button is now off and the only way I could turn it on was by pressing the center button. This then caused the screen to turn blue with that apple symbol again, but wouldn't erase anything. I thought this was odd because this is only supposed to be the screen shown if you're resetting your ipod.

6) The last problem with it is that I'll import a cd and it will show up in my ITunes. That's great, but when I highlight them all and transfer them over, some will go through while others will not. If it does not transfer a song the process completely stops. So then I have to click on the song that's being a problem and right click to convert it to MP3. This takes about 2 minutes alone and slows down the importing process drastically. Is there any way that I could highlight everything in my ITunes and drag it into my ipod without getting these error messages?

Ok that's it, I sure hope someone can help me with any of these... I've e-mailed apple three times, but they haven't really fixed anything. Any help would be amazing, I'm kind of getting tired of working on my ipod for hours and knowing it'll erase in another week Lol, I think that 's everything...

Whenever mine has been shut off for awhile i will get a blackscreen with a silver apple in the middle im almost sure that just the start up screen.
like when a computer turns on, You'll get the dell screen or what ever
and for two

My nano has a screen like this im not sure if a video does
Playlists which gives u another list.. (i personally dont use it so i dont know
what that list is for)
Artists which only show the songs with an artist that you have on itunes..
it took me almost a day to find out all the artists for my songs....
Albums which will show only the albums that are shown on your itunes..
look em up if u dont have it
Songs which show ALL SONGS
Genres gives ur music types on another list
composers well i only have two on thier and im not sure why.. but
its ok

I have some songs that i cannot find the artists for so they will not show up under the artist's page and will only be found on songs

Yeah this isn't a problem. When you turn off your ipod, it goes into "Sleep" mode, and after maybe a day or so of sleep mode, it shuts off all the way and has to reboot stuff when you turn it back on.

Just use iTunes to give those songs a CD name. Even if you have no idea what the cd name is just make something up that you will remember and it will show in the iPod.

The difference between auto and manual is only when it triggers. I'm not sure this would prevent any songs that are not still in iTunes from being erased.

After moving all of your music to the external hard drive, did you change the destination folder of your music collection in iTunes? If iTunes is looking for all of your music on the C: drive and its really on the D: drive, it will think you dont have any music.

I've never seen this. The format of the songs shouldn't cause trouble as long as it is a format iTunes uses like WMA, AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, or the M4P format the iTunes store uses. It sounds like a software problem or maybe your motherboard's chipset drivers could be updated.

thanks guys, I'm glad to know that the icon on the start up is fine. When I put my music into itunes I deleted my whole itunes list and re-imported the list from the external drive so it knows where to look. The whole converting this is odd, it says that it's converting to Apple Lossless so I figured all of them should work which isn't the case, so I'll definately look into updating my motherboard drivers or I'll possibly wait till I can get my new computer hopefully this week. I have been putting in random CD names just so they would show under the ARTISTS menu, I just see that as being kind of weird because the song is by that artist yet it's not listed... I could understand if I was looking under albums but I guess that's just something they designed in.

And Dip, the playlist allows you to listen to your selected music which you can do in ITunes or on the ipod. If you have a song you want to listen to you highlight it and hold the center button(it should blink) and it'll be put into a playlist called "on the go," then you can do the same with any other songs you want. This just creates almost like an album for you of different artists just for variety.. I used it a lot when I work.

Thanks again, I'm still trying to figure out why my ipod is deleting itself when I'm adding songs though

Is it possible that it could be deleting because Windows may not be updated? I didn't think this would be it, but is it feasable?

edit: Also after it's been wiped clean, I'll plug it back in and I'll get a little error message saying "ipod is corrupted, run chkdsk" I did do that before and it found errors but would not fix them, so I restored my ipod to fix the corruption and two weeks later it did the same... I'm just trying to remember all the steps I did.
