It has been rather sunny in my part of Wisconsin. Snow rarely seems to last for more than a day around here this winter. I miss the big road-clogging snow falls that we used to get.

Maybe if I get a job that requires a long commute the snow will come back...

Ugh, who decided that once you are an adult and have a real job that you can't have snow days. Thats the most digusting part of growing up.

Tucson? That's where I was born. Oddly enough, it managed to snow there before my parents moved away from there. I was too young to remember any of it though.

We didn't get any snow either. Stupid weather...

There are snow days when you are an adult. If there is a declared snow emergency which has shutdown all non-emergency travel, it is actually a crime for a company to require you to work. In those cases, the only folks who are on the roads are folks like EMS workers, firefighters, and LEOs. In those situations, if you are at home, you stay home, if you are at work, you stay there, etc.

I actually got to ask a VP once, when he was telling me to get into work the following question. "Are you **sure** you want to insist on that?? If so, put it in writing.". They shut up real quick, as they knew I was also a part of the county EMA and could send a LEO to present him with a court summons (of course, ordering him to appear only after the snow emergency had been lifted).

I live in Michigan, to my knowledge a 'snow emergency' has never happened in my lifetime. Michigan is one of those states (only about 6 of them) that know what to do in the snow no matter how deep. We dont shut anything down unless the snow has buried the building and front end loaders have to clear the front door.

I have seen days where the weatherman will tell you not to travel unless you have to. But on those same days the boss is saying, 'If you dont show up to work you lose a day's pay.'

Same here. I love hearing about "snow emergencies" in the eastern states when they're only getting about 6". I've spent my whole life in Utah and we've only had 1 snow day. The snow got so deep, Dad had to get up on the roof and shovel the snow off. By the time he was done, all he had to do to get off was step down on to the pile of snow. That was awesome.

Where I'm from, we don't get snow. But, when the snow don't come to us, we go to the snow.....

Taken at 8,000 feet.

That's me on the left, last Saturday. I don't understand, I had a blast driving in the snow, what's the big deal? Why close schools? The only hard part is steering with my tires at 4psi. It's not THAT hard.....

The thing about driving in the snow is that no one runs off the road unless they are doing one of three things

-Hitting the brakes
-stomping on the gas (rear wheel drive only)
-turning

So if everyone would just use common sense they can avoid all winter accidents by performing the following steps

-point your car straight at its destination
-accelerate slowly but achieve a high cruising speed
-dont turn
-dont use the brakes at all

And we would all get there safely. Right?
