EDIT: 2/23/08 It appears that there was a problem with my web host (see 12dollarhost.com to be amused). I've moved the files to a more appropriate host.

DC MAP PACKS

This is meant to be a quicker way to get most of the maps in play on the server. I have included links to existing official and third party map packs, as well as map packs compiled from maps that otherwise would have to be downloaded individually. DC Map packs are in 7zip format to decrease the size of the downloads. Download 7zip here. It may be necessary to right-click/save as to download 7zip format files.

Grand Total for Windows Users: 2369 MB
Grand Total for Linux Users: Slightly Less (I don't feel like doing the math)

Yep, that would go on a DVD nicely.

Took forever to upload too. But that's the nature of DSL connections in the middle of nowhere. Glad that it's appreciated though. I should test the files sometime (I'm pretty sure I got the folder names right after quadruple checking and having to rebuild the zip files to fix a plural).

Are these "new" maps or are these the same old maps that any seasoned player on the DC server should already have?

I downloaded one and it seems these are the old ones, many of which where provided when I installed the game.

If they are the old ones please mention that before any more idiots like me waste their time downloading them.

These are not new maps in terms of them having just been added to the server. However, most of the maps in use on the server are not installed with the game. These packs just provide a quick (well, as quick as it can be) way to get a nearly complete set of the maps with all support files that are in use on the server.

It is nice to not have to download maps whenever a round ends.

Also, none of the maps that come on the official game CDs are in these packs. All of these were downloaded from sites like filefront or beyondunreal with one exception (had to dig into the cache).

Perhaps a note somewhere in the first post stating the fact that these are not "new" maps to be downloaded by everyone. "*(Updated)* " to me means the maps have been updated and they are new maps. A lot of time can be wasted before someone (me) realizes that they aready have these maps.

These are NOT new maps, these are maps that are played on the DC server

You mean I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?

new or updated, doesn't really matter. They're good packs, plus this takes out the hunting them down part. Couldn't find the first CBP before now.

I like the dates you put in in the first part of your first post, that lets me know when the were added. I would like to see dates in the later part too.

new or updated, doesn't really matter, keep downloading them over and over because "They're good packs".

I don't subscribe to that way of thinking. <---( yeah, I can get grumpy sometimes. I'm too old to put up with such flippant statements)

If I see the word updated it means to me that they are updated. A simple date is all I ask, as in:
Ultimate Community Map Pack 2 updated (or added) 5/9/06
Platform Neutral - UCMP-Volume2.zip 246MB

Flag Pack updated (or added) 3/19/06
Platform Neutral - flagpack2004.zip 80MB

UT Classics Map Pack updated (or added) 2/11/06
Platform Neutral - UT_Classics.zip 50MB

I see I only have to download Ultimate Community Map Pack 2 because it was updated today and the others I know I already downloaded when they were added months ago. I honestly don't remember what I've downloaded in the past and the date will help me see what is new. If Cazius, in his first post, adds UT Classics Map Pack 2, and just writes NEW MAPS ADDED, other than having a photographic memory, I won't know which I added and when it was added.

If I decide not to read the forums for a month, but play the game everyday for two weeks, i'm bound to automaticly download the new maps through the game. At the end of the month I come back to the forums and read a new map is added, naturally I'll download it because I have no idea if it was added in the two weeks I played or if it was added in the two weeks I didn't play. A simple date can be very helpfull in this situation.

The later part of his post, or the "Official/Other Packs" are provided by other folks and have been available for some time. Those individual map packs will likely not be updated - possibly only new packs added. If he does add a new community pack, he might put a date on it when he added it.

The stuff in the early part of his post ("DC Packs") are packs that he put together himself, downloading/obtaining individual maps not already in a map pack (Dru's put a *ton* of them on the server), and took the time to put them in to five massive packs. Those he might update from time to time, so that's why they're dated.

Yeah, I guess you're right, crabman2. I'll have to start thinking that way to keep up with the map packs.
