Ok guys, maybe this one might have been posted before but here's what I have in mind.
Turn on friendly fire, that way the challenge might grow very much and make it more fun and more skillful.
And here's the catch:
A player who damages another loses experience.
A player who kills another is penalized with more experience loss.
A player whose damage helps a monster kill another player also is penalized.
A player who kills many players using a superweapon is penalized with increasing multiplier.

I have no idea how the scripting could be done, but always thought that friendly fire on can increase challenge by a lot. let me know what you guys think.

This would deter from the sense of a team and cause anger between players. Yes, teamwork would theoretically rise, but in actuality everyone would just start getting pissed off at other's mistakes.

We'd go from a community to a 16 wave long argument,

Worst case scenario I see would be seeing titans, queens and nalis sitting on the side watching players kill one another...
Would be fun though

Medics wouldbe more valued and better aim encouraged.

Sometimes I shoot people to get their attention, though...

Really though: Imagine all the drama that would cause and how much of a headache that'd be for the admins

Besides, half the server who has your skin shoots you before they realize you're a friendly.

The server I help run has Friendly Fire at 100%.

Granted this wouldnt work well at DC because of the 20 player load. Ours is only 8 players. But for smaller servers like ours it does work well and after a couple of maps people either stop whining about friendly fire and learn to aim better, or they leave. Either way we are happy.

Oh and before I forget, the reason we dont have rampant team killing is because of a damage refelction mutator that keeps people from hunting other people down.

Me, too. I also use teammates for target practice if things get slow.

I think the server admins have enough on their hands already. I would have to ban myself before finishing the first map.

that wouldn't surprise me, I don't think anyone would I know would be playin' on DC much longer, I see people shooting people all the time to get their attention, or just for fun between waves. and yes I am including myself in that...

Something I might get banned for some day ...

If someone has auto taunts on, and I ask them to turn them off, and they don't (usually they don't respond at all), I go through the process of putting them on total ignore, and then (hoping they at least hear all the annoying auto taunt themselves) shoot them every chance I get.

Now I'm torn, since I'd be able to kill those idjits outright and fix auto taunts easy. But then if FF is on, it'd be worth having AT on. But then if you start hearing someone's AT, you'll stop shooting, and maybe give that Titan enough time to throw a rock at you.

Invasion, with 20+ players, is not good for friendly fire. Different playing styles, and the random popping up of monsters dictate that you might do just as much damage to your team mate as you would the monster that just popped up behind him. And if you *don't* shoot, someone might just complain about why you didn't.

At the very least, it would create more issues with the relatively cordial atmosphere we currently have.

I think it would be interesting to see for special days, like April Fools day. I mean, infinite deemers for the nali are all fine and dandy, but I think FF (or better yet, 50% chance of doing 200% damage FF, if it were easy to code), would be damn funny. For the day. After that, ixnay.

How does that work?

It's a mutator that calculates the damage you would have done to the person based on the RPG stats and the percentage of friendly fire, then it uses the settings you specify and gives some of that damage to the shooter and some of that damage to the person being shot. On our server, we make it so the guy pulling the trigger gets about 65% of the damage that would have been dealt and the person being shot gets the remaining 35%. By having it set this way, we ensure that no one shoots other people on purpose as they take more damage for it, and it mostly compensates for low level players who have a lower max health getting shot by higher level players who have the max health at the stat cap.

This all works very well, but it becomes very complex when a death bomb is randomly left behind by a killed monster, and ownership falls to the killer. Then a hapless person walks by and gets caught in the explosion of the bomb. So the guy who killed a monster and walked away is now taking damage because someone didnt see the flashing red, very noisy bomb about to go off.

We run a crazy setup.

I don't so much shoot him any more as just get plain distracted when he flashes by. Kind of a:

"What the -?! Oh, it was Oki." Occasionally followed by a *smush!* from a rock.
