This is probably an easy question for someone who knows Paypal, but how exactly does it work? I've done a lot of shopping online, but have never used Paypal, but have wanted to. So I'm trying to understand it before I test it out, so any information on it would be appreciated!

I've used paypal for around 6 years or so now, it's really easy and very safe, I personally have never had any problems. All you need to do is go to paypal.com and sign up for a new account, enter your information, you must have a checking account or credit card to use on it though, I can't remember if a savings account is accepted or not, but it will tell you for sure in the info there. When you do a transaction you make sure everything is correct thru them before you pay and you always get a reciept/conformation# sent to your email.
When you get a chance, go to the website and read the info there if you haven't already. Hope this helped! Good Luck!

I used paypal for a few years when I sold stuff on eBay. While I don't sell much anymore, I still occassionally use it to buy stuff now. So, I've had experience from both sides of the scale, and I can personally say that I've never had any problems.

I have heard of some crucked, wierd way people can cancel their payment, or pay with a credit card or SOMETHING, I never figured it out, but there's a way to pay you with fake money or something. The thing about this though is it's incredibly rare, and incredibly illegal.

It may not even happen anymore, I haven't herad anything about it in a while, it may be old news. But yea, personally, I haven't had any trouble.

I've been using it for a long time. It is really useful given the number of sites that accept it exclusively. It is very secure, and pretty easy to use once you have your account set up. It also allows you a certain amount of credit. Not sure how that works since I have never used it that way, but it will even show you the amount of money it will let you spend on something. It's pretty intuitive and definately about as safe as anything can be online. I would recommend it.

I'd rather use paypal than giving a site my information but you still need to be carefull and remember that people try and trick you with emails about having problems with your account (I keep getting one saying someone is attempting to access my account but I reported it to paypal and they said it was a spoof) The only problem I actually had when using it was a seller on ebay dissapeard and never sent what I won, really not paypal's fault so I probably will won't be buying anything to costly through ebay any time soon.

Paypal has been very reliable and has a reasonably good track record when it comes to security. Overall, I recommend it as they do a better job than most in protecting your info.

I worked in electronic bill payment for a few years and have also worked for a couple places that had retail and catalog operations and took cards. Generally speaking, large companies are much more secure than mid-size and small companies. In fact, now that I think about it, I've been universally appalled at what I've seen at small and at least half of the mid-size companies in this regard. Their overall IT security is generally lacking, but given the sensitive nature of credit card info, they come up frighteningly short.

Here's another tip for y'all (based on good and difficult, but not necessarily bad experiences with Paypal)-

Paypal has a feature where they will cover up to $1000 of an auction on ebay (assuming you use a checking account, not credit card to pay) if you don't receive the item or other such circumstances. I highly recommend looking into that option if you do online transactions at all.
