This is exactly why this game was shelved very quickly from my gaming portfolio. The PKers were horrible, especially for low level players. Someone comes into the game and asks where you are, any you, thinking that they want to help tell them. Next thing ya know, they kill you and steal all your stuff. Yup, didn't care for it much.

Its not just the name that you need to know, but what realm he is on as well. I do play the game, and I try to play UT as well, but now that I have upgraded the memory on my laptop I can keep both games installed at the same time with no more problems. My realm is Dalvengyr, and my name is Macadamia. Oh, and it costs around $10 a month.

Well, after much pressing from my cousin, my sis & bro-in-law, and also a coworker, I gave WoW a try. Bear in mind I'm a firm believer in the "Don't pay for a game after you've paid for it" philosophy and thus I've been on Guild Wars for a couple years now.

In any case, cracked open the 10 day trial and gave it a whirl. I must say I was disappointed. It was fun, true, but certainly not fun enough to pay the extra cash per month to play it. And graphics-wise, Guild Wars is superior, imho. Smoother aliasing, better textures, more fluid movement, etc...

Aside from gameplay itself, you have to ask yourself, do you really want to be tied financially to a game? The nice thing about Guild Wars is I can step away for a couple weeks and not feel like I've wasted any time or money. And, now Blizzard plays it's true dirty card with their expansion....that costs as much as the regular WoW! That, in my opinion, is crap. As if their losing any money on the thousands of people who pay to play already.

Another cool thing with guild wars is, with the expansions they'll build new abilities and system level things that they give to everyone, regardless of whether or not they have the expansion. So, even with out paying an extra dime since I got it a couple years ago, the game is radically different, and in a very good way!

All in all, I'd say go with Guild Wars. You'll spend a lot less time doing pointless stuff like walking for 2 days, and have more fun killin baddies. And the best part is, you'll only pay once! W00T!

cheers.
t.

Stephen: I've come to the right place then!

Well, I am that Sis that Wombat is referring to > and I must say I am totally hooked on WOW, although I really hate the pay to play also. And I wont be buying the expansion anytime either, but I think the game is really fun to play. I have Guild Wars also, and each game has it's own awesome things about it. It all depends on what you like in a game. The down side is the time you put into it, which you have to pay for, because Blizzard is a greedy pig lol. So, WOW is a blast to play, but is a pain in the pocketbook.

WoW is actually the game I've been playing for the last year and a bit. I do plan on getting the expansion, eventually. I play it to waste time, and boy does it deliver. I did play Guild Wars for a time, but I wasn't really satisfied with the "endgame" for PvE at the time- Fissure of Woe was meh, and the other one.. Underworld or something, was just more of the same. WoW, despite being pay to play, does get regular new content delivered every couple months- new dungeons with new gear, or events. So once you reach the highest level, there's many many layers of of content to sift through. It ends up being lots of hours of new content, whereas that's something you'd have to buy in the form of expansion packs for Guild Wars. Each game has it's ups and downs.

Blizzard toys with class balance every patch, but unlike Diablo 2, most changes are "buffs" to a class to make it stronger in an area that it was considered weak in. Sometimes they swing the nerf bat, but it usually isn't very hard- despite what the avid forum goers on the WoW official forums say. To be honest, the class balancing that happens in Guild Wars I found to be 100x more frustrating.

The main difference between WoW and Guild Wars, is that from my time in Guild Wars I interpreted the game as very skill based. WoW is very... gear based. Like Diablo II in that respect. Once you reach the maximum level, it's ALL about getting better gear. Unless you raid 7 days a week, there's always gear that's at least a little better than what you have.

I played WoW for a while. I generally got bored around level 20. I'm too used to Everquest where it was common for groups to assemble and last 5+ hours. In WoW it seems like most groups pull together for one 20 minute quest and then immediately split.

It just didn't seem to have the sense of community I look for.

played guild wars, played wow, decided I did not like paying to stand in line (wow) guild wars did not have the comunity I like, or a shock rifle

I think if there were a guild for wow made up of DC players all on the same server I might give it a try again...

to answer the original question, no it's not in my opinion. Played long hours over the past 2 months, much of it was laggy, patches were weekly and if you really want to dl them you have to have p2p enabled which dragged badely. The play got really old around lvl 25 (made it to 30 before i called it quits) and groups/players were very "me" oriented. All in all, not for me.

I play Guild Wars (Frederick The Third) and i play WoW (Maxpayne...on the Horde) i pay $14.99 a mounth to play and i love it guild wars had a very good story line... and wow has a lot of quest to do but you have to think alot for them but you can do battlegrounds and much more the arena wich guildwars haves but Wow has a lot more PvP and if u want to get to a high lvl and raid wich we call it you can go in to a PvP server where u can kill any one you like on the other team... i enjoy both games tho love em both...but i would choose WoW over guild wars WAY! more to do in WoW

I never played Diablo so I have no idea what you just said . I like WoW (yes I bought it) it does have some downfalls (no chat filter) but I haven't had any problems (unless you count some minor lag) and I think it is really fun. I just have to get more experience with the gameplay to see any real flaws...

There are chat filters. Also if you spend a lot of time putting your points into your talent tree and blizzard makes a change to the class tree in general, they refund you all of your points for free. Or if you decide you dont like the way you spent your points, you can pay a very small amount of gold to respend them.

I just recently quit the game.. It is very addicting and sucks up a lot of your time.. There really isn't anything to do at level 70, except raid and I'm not a big raider. I couldn't stand being there waiting for my officers to say " OK HUNTERS DO THIS" blah blah blah..

I mostly quit because of me being hacked 3 times in a row after I hit 70. I was a 70 hunter on Sisters of elune, came from Scarlet crusade.
Name was Skylena
3rd time the Gm didn't give me back my Leather working and skinning skill nor my money.. 300 some gold since i was hacked so many times.. so i had to start from scratch...
in my opinion i say it isn't worth it.. 20 bucks a month.. is usually what is is.. or you can pay every 2 months and stuff..
but i finally noticed there was no point in the game.

thats all the advise i have.. if u want to play it go ahead man. but when i played that game i missed out on a lot of good things

Peace.

Cool Story Bro.
