Can the body have symmetrical blood splatters and battle damage on each side? Doing so would allow me to enhance the detail on the body.

There are a few alternatives. The second option is to have the entire body be asymmetrical when it comes to textures. This would prevent any high-detail and it would take a longer time to complete.

The third option would be that only certain parts are asymmetrical and the rest is symmetrical. The right glove when facing his front, for example, has blood covering it while the left one has no blood. I could make the gloves asymmetrical and consider the rest symmetrical so that the blood would be on just the one glove and not both.

Basically, I'm asking how important it is that the texture be asymmetrical. If it should be (or possibly in certain places), where?

Another question I have for is whether you want to Doomguy to look real or Doom-stylized.

I am second guessing the battle damage and moreso the blood. I think the bunny head gives it enough character. Perhaps just the forehead scar? That skin looks awesome clean. I now turn these decisions over to you since you're already doing great. Do whatever you think would turn out best.

edit : Did you just change your post? Could have sworn that last question wasn't there. I am thinking fairly real looking with the general appearance of Doomguy is fine. As long as his essence, his likeness is there.

I have an idea. What if we added hurt sounds from Doom to replace the default species sounds? I can ask the guys at Epic Games forums to possibly do this.

Also, I'm going to try out putting a Doom level reflection on his armor and see how it works out.

I'm a little worried about the voice pack. There are some orders missing and some sounds are reused a bit. Shame he doesn't talk much.

I have no problems with those ideas. The voice pack isn't a big deal to me so however you want to do the sounds is fine.

Also the sounds are not a big deal overall, so don't feel obligated to include any unless you really want them.

I think this'll be a voice-packless skin, but when it's done you can put the voice-pack file right next to it in the download on this thread. How's that sound?

Sure. In that case, I will change it up a bit: add more sounds, change orders from Doomguy's "voice" to individual random sounds, and call it DoomSounds instead of DoomguyVoice. Sounds logical in my head, anyways.

I looked at the sounds necessary for custom hurt sounds and such. It looks like some effort will be needed to fit the criteria of the hurt sounds. For example, the hurt sound list includes:

HitUnderWater
Jump (2 of them)
LandGrunt [probably landing on the ground after a long fall]
Gasp [I have no idea what this is]
Drown
BreathAgain [probably an "up for air out of water" sound]
Dodge
Death (4 of them)
Hit (4 of them)

It's possible to do a litte voice acting and attempt to emulate Doomguy...then lower the quality of sound to that of the SNES (in the spirit of Doom). Also - for the hurt sounds - you can change the pitches of the original grunts to get more variety and with little effort.

I'll leave this decision up to you. If you have and/or make the sound files and send 'em, I'll have it made into a custom hurt sounds file. Otherwise, nevermind.

That got me curious. Found a few interesting things. I played around in UT2004 with bots off, drowning myself etc, to hear all the sounds. There are 2 underwater pain sounds (from drowning) but drowning death is silent. Did not hear a breathagain sound. Sooo, if we open up unrealed we will see why. Go to the sounds tab without opening any packages. Select PlayerSounds from the upper dropdown list. Click the "all" button. All drown sounds, gasp sounds, and breathagain sounds are silent. All underwaterhit sounds (even female) refer to BHitCry2 and BHitCry3.
Here's the most interesting part though. In the file menu, click "Load entire package". There are many (from what I can tell) entirely unused sounds. They do seem to be a bit cheesy and unrealistic compared to the used ones. Femalepain1-4, Malepain1-4, and Alienpain1-4 are the most noteworthy.

Well, anyways, back on topic. Doing species sounds seems like a lot of work for a rather trivial reward, to me. So yeah, I will skip it.

Nothing wrong with not doing human skins, just means you don't do generic.

That skin looks *awesome*. I don't have skype, but that 3d view looks pretty good.
Can't wait to see it in UT!

ps - have you ever thought about doing this as a career? Your skins, though not pack-in appearance, are at *least* pack-in stock quality. (by pack-in, referring to skins included with the game) Also, that is the best Doomguy I've ever seen, fanmade or otherwise.

And, my reasoning:
Flak cannon because the most common weapon in the original 2 was the shotgun and everyone used the super shotgun in Doom 2. Accuracy was ok, but Doomguy always got up close and personal. Aggressiveness and combat style are high because Doomguy runs right up to his enemies and blows them away, at 57 mph even. Jumpiness is 1, since (after a google search) I realized it means actual literal jumping, and Doomguy has never jumped. Tactics is a 2 because Doomguy was a loner, even refusing help in Final Doom. The Doom and Wolfenstein RPG give him the name and the backstory with Wolfenstein guy, and Doom64 states that he has moved to hell in the end story.

Sorry, meant to comment but have been quite busy. You totally knocked it out of the park. Helmetless Doomguy especially looks like someone you would not want to anger. As for your concerns, I wouldn't worry about it. The boots thing isn't really a problem (maybe his boots are bronzed) and I didn't even notice the hand thing.
