I seriously suggest removing Gael. The only people who get points on that one are mine layer campers.

This is a sort of related suggestion. Why not remove the 50 most played maps for a few weeks? hehehehe. This morning I somehow got CTF-Phaseshift (or something like that) voted in, and it was an awesome awesome map (unique idea with the "ghosts") but I know that nobody is going to vote for it no matter how many times I try to get it voted in during prime time. But by removing the most played maps.... people will be forced to play new maps for once.

Wow Tritium, how does that make you feel?
Maybe we could have two map lists, one for the popular maps and one
for the uncool maps, and just rotate the lists every couple of days.
I think if some of the uncool maps that are really awful come off the list,
like Griffin, people would be more willing to take a chance on maps
they dont know. I for one don't map vote very often because I know which maps I like and if I dont see one there I'll let everyone else decide which
uncool map to play.

Calling maps that aren't played often "not cool" is a bit ignorant. The server has plenty of great maps, it just that most people will play the same maps over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. There are a lot of great, fresh, maps that just don't get played as much because people don't know that they are good. And because they don't know if they are good, they vote for maps they have played and remember.

When I played Dance Dance Revolution at the arcade, I saw this type of behavior all the time. The first Mix of DDR had maybe a dozen songs, and with each subsequent mix more and more songs were added. These new songs were just as great as the original ones, if not better. But whever I viewed the "Player's Best" list (list of the most played songs) I'd always see many of the songs from the first DDR Mix up on the top of the most played. A lot of the great, new, songs were not played nearly as much.

But because this server allows the majority decide what map to play, the majority almost always go for the tried tested and true.

I've been playing this game for nearly a year now, and I am sick and tired of playing Goliath. I am sick and tired of playing Gael. I am sick a tired of playing Phobos. I always have the choice of playing on another server, but there is no other server like DC.

<applaudes most emphaticly to clouds suggestion>(sorry for the spelling.)
Excellent idea my friend. Tonight vinv was being played (clearly irratated some players) so i picked the least played inv map i didn't know (janurary), it got the majority vote somehow and everyone loved it! If more people would just let some of those little used maps in, i think massive entertainment would ensue.

On a more on topic related note, it was agreed when we voted in CTF-Derelict-Version2 that it really should go. Other than the molasses quick gameplay, it sent everyone's frame rate in to the blender.

Hey I'm with cloud on the remove all the well played maps so we can get some new maps started. Like Corrugation and asbestos and a few others. I'm sure cloud can think of more.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that a lot of the most played maps are played a lot because they are good maps. I've gone days without seeing certain maps available, such as Osiris, BoomBoomBridge, Deck17 etc. . Lets not cut off our nose despite our face, and realize that a lot of the problem here is simply timing. There are a lot of maps that I dont like to play and I excercise my right to hop off the server when they are in play rather than sit in the game and gripe which I've been noticing plenty of lately. It's one thing to remove maps that just aren't that good for invasion or 20 players, or that lag and are loaded with map holes, it's a whole different animal to pull them because they are popular. If most people want to play another map they will vote another map in.

Remove?

CTF-CBP2-Botanic

There's a hole in the map that players randomly fall through (middle of the map) and can't get out.

I know the hole, but I think I'd like some more opinions on that one, Acy. It seems a lot of people like that map. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Ya know, we had the same problem on nexxus untill we held TDM weekend. And then everybody just quit playing. It's obvious that overplayed maps make the server seem dull. People like to go with the tried and true, but what they don't realize is that if they play a few other maps that arn't voted on often then they will find other great maps that they like to play. Currently nexxus invasion rpg is undergoing some changes to make the server harder for both lowbie and the high level players. I mean, when you have more high level players then lowbies the lowbies just quit playing because they can't kill anything. The obvious solution to this would be to reset everybodies levels, but if you did that then you would loose even more people. say anybody over the starting level. I'm just giving you guys a heads up on because the same things happened in nexxus and now we (the admins) are working overtime to get it popular again. Trust me, it's a lot of work.

You are right about maps becoming stale. Fortunately the difficulty here is geared to allow new players the ability to kill monsters. Also the curve for leveling here is substantially higher than most rpg servers so as not to ruin the gameplay and desire to level. Any player on disastrous consequences will tell you, the real draw to this server is the community. The people who play here really are quality folks, and this is the bread and butter here as far as myself and many others are concerned. Players can come here and enjoy the community as much as the game itself. Good luck on the overhaul and keep us posted, I'd like to check it out.

(If I may) I CONCURE CPL! Gotta love the people here, and i think another nice thing is the server is not "clicky" so to speak. Players that just join because they are browsing through the lists are treated as well as those that are campainers here. Another nice thing is the longer you play, the more you get to know some of strengths and weaknesses of the other players, which leads to a sense of team work and protection of out own. Like if cpl were to get a phone call and was facing a corner, many of us would have no compunction about defending his back while he was other wise occupied (this, i think, holds true for any one in that situation)
I have come to really enjoy the time i get to play and post on this server alot!
