Fantasy/sci-fi/horror/short story collections books for me, but mainly fantasy.

Original Dragonlance novels (nothing after the second generation)
Death gate cycle
Anything by R.A.Salvator (esp Dark Elf sets)
Iron tower and Brega Path by McKernian
Most anything by Stephan Donaldson
Dragon Prince set by Meleny Rawn
All Tolkien books (the father of modern fantasy imho)
Endymion set
Love Edgar Allan Poe's works
All of Terry Brooks books
Some by S. King (loved the stand, it, and dragons eye)

These are just a few, but the list goes on and on and on.....

I'm a Fantasy/Sci-Fi book nerd. My favorite author is Piers Anthony. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recomend reading his "Incarnations of Immortality" book series (the genre is sci-fi/fantasy) as I swear (gasp I swore, don't ban me!) it is the best fantasy/sci-fi series I have ever read in my entire existance.

Incarnations of Immortality:
On A Pale Horse
Bearing an Hourglass
With a Tangled Skein
Weilding a Red Sword
Being a Green Mother
For Love of Evil
And Eternity

Another GREAT series
Bio of a Space Tyrant:
Refugee
Mercenary
Politician
Exectutive
Statesman
The Iron Maiden

Other Piers Anthony series to read:
Aprentice adept series (7 books), Xanth series(30ish books), and MODE series(4 books). The Xanth series is.... full of puns. It's one of the things I read as a teen that probably has contributed a bit to my somewhat dehydrated humour.

I can't seem to find e-book versions of Bio of A Space Tyrant or Incarnations of immortality.

And as a note, some conservative parents probably wouldn't want their children reading Bio of a Space Tyrant or the MODE series until they are in their teens.

The Adept series was excellent, a very good mix on scifi/fantasy with quite a bit of juxtaposition thrown in (get it "juxtaposition" )

I haven't read much Piers Anthony, just Chthon. That book was amazing. Far better better than the other Nebula contender that year.

But I suppose everyone can be a critic.

So does anyone else here like cyberpunk fiction?

I've read a couple Shadowrun books. Does that count? The books I read would have been good if the author had chosen a better proffesion than a Shaman for the main character. Somehow the having final climax in the last book of a trilogy end in a Shamanistic dance off left me a little unsatisfied. Otherwise I liked it. My brother loves the SNES game Shadowrun for some reason. Or is it Shadowrunner?

Meh.

Some good cyberpunk (at least in my eyes) is William Gibson's "Neuromancer."Its pretty tech heavy, but an amazing read.

Something lighter that is just a ton of fun is Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash."

Both I highly reccomend.

I like alot of books in the Forgotten Realms group, its a fantasy group of books. Usually, one story is interetwined with another one, directly or indirectly...

One specific book that I like is The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Its from a fellow from the UK, its a sci-fi-comedy. They made a radio show out of the book, then a BBC movie (Think PBS quality). And soon, Hollywood will be releasing a version. I suggest reading the book before you see the movie.

Yeah, when I was browsing some books earlier today I saw Neuromancer, but I wasn't really sure if I wanted to put the money down for it. Based on your recomendation, I'll buy it after I buy a few more books in the Star Wars: New Jedi Order series.

Yeah, I've read some Forgotten Realms books. Most recently I read R.A. Salvatore's Icewind Dale trilogy. My only other knowledge of Forgotten Realms comes from the game Neverwinter Nights. Which is an awesome game, and not just because I live in the same city as BioWare.

Cloud, if you liked the Icewind Dale books, I really recommend the the Dark Elf Trilogy (gives an account of Drizzt's early life, very good) and the books after The Halflings Jem, there are like 9 or 10 of them. (starts with The Legacy I believe, continues where Salvator left off in the Jem)they become more indepth with the friendships of the group, and a parting of ways (won't spoil it)....

Yes, the dark elf set is really good, and R.A. Salvator is a pseudo-name for the authors I believe. My favorite is the avitar trilogy, following when the gods had to give their powers to the humans before they were removed... good set

R.A. Salvator is the author of all of them actually. There have been some off-shoot novels concerning dark elves in general by other authors, centered in Menzoboranzzan, but they can't come close to Salvator's passion to detail. Especialy his propensity to really detail fight scenes (right down to fighting techniques and moves). I read a bio on him somewhere, and I guess he is quite a formatable foe with a blade himself in real life, which is where he gets his details for the scenes in the books.

I haven't read the Avatar series yet, but it looks good. I want to find a copy of his Cleric Quintet, but it is and older set of books and I haven't found it yet.
