Altough we have high levels and low one. What we could do is 3v3. We register somewhere and give like 2 weeks. Then choose the correct number of team leaders with about the same skills. And they choose their teammates.

Thats how we did on a LAN party last year.

Actually, if everyone want to do the Trip to Montreal, Bring your stuff and well do that at my house!!

Meh... personally I wouldn't be interested in a PvP tournament. I haven't played PvP in over a year. PvP requires a totally different approach to the game than invasion.

I think a 1v1 or 2v2 tournament played with the existing settings and invasion mods would be best.

easy to say when there are only 7 people who are a higher level than you..

it really wouldnt even be a tournament for most of us if we kept stats active.

Well.....I'm up for any type of tournament whether we do 1vs1 or teamvsteam........I play almost all gametypes so DM, TDM, CTF, Instagib(normal gravity), TAM, ONS, AS are all fine by me.........I'll also play competitive invasion as long as the playing fields are evened up (skills and stats similar between all competitors)

Although I'm sure some will disagree, once your level is above around 125, level plays only a marginal role. Fro has the high score right now and is below 200.

Either that or we could set the level. So everyone is level 100 and gets to spend their stats how they want and plays through the tournament that way.

The thing is, invasion doesn't lend itself well to tournaments. It would boil down to whoever is able to find the most monsters, rather than who is actually the best at killing.

And if it's a small map where monsters are easy to find, the chances of two players surviving the difficult waves (even just the skaarj waves) is very little, no matter how good they are. Even the best would simply be overwhelmed by the current wave size. Perhaps if the number of monsters was adjusted, but even then it is still more of a contest of who can find the most monsters.

Either that, or someone just buys awareness, then waits for the other player to weaken every monster before KS'ing. Rinse, lather, repeat. If I'm mistaken about your idea though, please do correct me.

I have to agree. Invasion isn't really a sort of mode where tournaments could be held easily. I mean, sure, 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 would kind of work for a while, but if you keep adding in others it would get to be like a normal game for us. Plus keeping the abilites and levels could be a disadvantage for some of us who are lower leveled and haven't really gotten many good abilities yet. Plus, invasion is mainly for teamwork isn't it?

Furry and proud of it!

I understand that many people see it this way, but it's not quite true. If you watch the really good players you'll see some key elements:

1) They are always moving around the map at top speed, always hustling. They are aware of the areas the monsters like to spawn and move about those points on the map. In fact there is a LA player that uses the speed combo on money waves along with the triple to take down extra titans.

2) They have figured out the strategies, weapons and keybinds to not only kill, but kill very quickly. The faster you kill something, the sooner you are killing the next thing, the more points you're getting, the more health you get back from vamp, the more adren you get back, etc.

As for kill-stealing, it's a fact of life but much less prevalent when the server population is low. If you have three monsters around you, are you gonna go for the kill steal or go for the three in your face? Or if you're really good, maybe you can get all four...

well honsetly there's not really that much skill involved in INV.......for VINV all u do is run over ppl while using avril, flak and link for titans and queens...........for normal inv it's all about level, skill(as in vampirism, loaded weapons, ghost, etc.), finding hiding spots for difficult waves and kill-stealing by using spam weapons(link, mini, flak).......I personally like using my hitscan weapons(lightning gun and shock) so most of the time I don't end up with the highest score.....well it's that and because I'm just level 55 ..........btw phoenix for small maps with skaarjs.......just lead them to a bottleneck/chokepoint then pull a combo, shoot avril or a triple-rocket salvo.....in this game, lightning guns are not really effective in wave 6, 11, 12 and 16....they have big targets with lots of health, so u'll have to spam at those times.

Heh.. Case in point: the very first time I played my LA character at lvl 5, I won the map. Course I was about level 10 by the time it was done.

Oh, I agree that there's a bit of skill involved, but luck makes a huge difference too.

For example, the weapon draw would make a huge difference in a tournament. You wouldn't be sharing weapons with your enemy now, would you? If only one of you ends up with a vorpal, +5, or any other exteremly useful (powerful) weapon, the chances are you'll be doing a lot better than your opponent, especially if you're evenly matched in skill.

Of course, that's not to say that it's not possible for someone with just vanilla or cursed weapons to pull out a great score, but chances are the player with the "uber" weapons will have a much easier time.

Luck would also be involved in finding monster spawn points. First one to find the goldmine will cash in, so to speak. (Ok, I suck at analogies; shoot me later )

I think an rpg invasion tournament is definitely an interesting idea; but the number of wrinkles that would need to be ironed out are far larger than say, a simple CTF match. Where in the latter we could just set up a time for everyone to meet on a server, the RPG Inv tournament requires a lot of planning and tweaking of the RPG itself to make as even playing field as possible.

Not saying it wouldn't work, but hey, we want to spend most of our time playing, not setting up, right?

yea there's definitely luck involved in this game........after all this brainstorming a competitive RPG INV seems kinda hard to set up ....but if u think about it luck is luck......if we have a couple of matches in one season/tournament then I believe luck (or bad luck) will even out. After all, before the start of the match, everyone starts out with the same luck just like everybody else

The fact is, there are about a dozen players that consistently win on DC. And not by a small amount attributable to luck. They win nearly every time and by several hundred points to well over a thousand.

I commented on this awhile back, the whole "level = skill" aspect of RPG games and, of course, "luck". Oh well.
