As far as playing, I don't really excel at any sport (had real bad asthma when I was a kid and into my late teens) but I did pick up Aikido many many years ago and still like it.

I love all sports, but the only one I watch is football. Im a big fan of the Bengals, which are looking pretty good this year. Its not easy being a Bengals fan. Where I live you are either a Steelers fan or a Browns fan. My son played his first season of football this year (little league). He did pretty good for his first time.(he is only 5) Its really amazing how fast kids learn. He told me he is joining the NFL next year. I also play football. I have a flag football tournament coming up in a couple of weeks.

I also agree about baseball being boring. And now with the playoffs on, the games are being played while some of my favorite shows are on like The Simpsons and Family Guy. I really enjoy watching football. My family has season tickets to Packer games so I usually try to make it to 2 or 3 games a year. Brett Favre is awesome.

buffalo bills!!! but I don't like how they're playing Holcomb over Losman, he needs some experience, playoffs aren't key this year

Playoffs aren't key? Your Bills will be in the playoffs you might want to rethink that. Willis McGahee is my starting running back on my fantasy team, and I have Lee Evans on the bench, but he is about to get dropped off the squad. I can't believe how well McGahee recovered from that particularly nasty knee injury.

oh yeah that knee injury was nasty they show that all the time... but I'd rather have Losman learn to play in the NFL and lose some games than to bench him and get to the playoffs. Sure i'd love to see buffalo make it in the playoffs, but Losman could be so much better next year if we play him now. Just look at Eli, he was bad last year, but they stuck with him and now he's great. I think our team's amazing, Evans is my favorite player on the team, we just need to improve the QB spot and we could succeed in the playoffs I think

Oh Yeah! Our town has been needing a World Series for so long its ridiculous. This is the best thing to happen in Chicago Sports since Da Bears dominated their way through the Superbowl in the '85 season.

I'm not big on watching baseball. I think it woulda been kinda neat to have the Astros win since they have never even made it to the World Series.

As for football, I watch it, I play it, but I don't really have a team...although I do like watching the Patriots...

I have to bring this thread back... the Buffalo Sabres are in the Playoffs again and I'm extatic and what a first game it was... I can remember watching the final Stanley Cup game against the Dallas Stars and losing in like the fifth OT because of a crease goal which I shall never forget... kind of like the Music City Miracle if you know Buffalo/Tenessee football , but anyway I'm really thrilled our team has another shot. And I was surprised when my dad actually bought tickets to the 5th game against the flyers, so hopefully philly will win just one game so I can see the sabres win . So any other hockey fans rooting for their teams in the playoffs?

Canucks choked, but they need to shake up the core and nothing assures that like missing the playoffs.

Watched parts of the Buffalo game, amazing hit on Umberger, very exciting game. I'm going for a Habs and Oilers finals, very unlikely, but I'd enjoy it.

There are two different ways one could take this...sports in which we participate and sports we like to watch. Here goes...

On the participate side, I love cycling, swimming, and martial arts (details in a second). Scuba diving was something I really enjoyed in HS/college, but it has been too long for me to say that I participate in it. Likewise for competitive diving, which I did back when I was in ES, where I was more into the platform than the springboard. Then I like soccer, but my knees are not up to it much any longer.

On the watching side...I love soccer and hockey. While most folks think of Columbus, OH as being a cow-town, we do have our own NHL team (the Blue Jackets), and our own MLS team (The Crew) with our own dedicated soccer stadium (a rare thing). Unforunately, tickets are priced so that I cannot see going to games much, especially given the timing of the games and the need to get our 11yo home at a reasonable time during the school year. At times, I will also watch cycling, swimming/diving competitions, figure skating, or martial arts competitions. But I look at other pro sports like baseball, basketball and football as rather boring displays of a bunch of rich jerks out there showing off, with all too brief action thrown into a mostly boring couple of hours. I pretty much formed this after the Reds won several world series and got really cocky. And at the college level, it is not much different, except for the sallaries. The main exception is that I will watch Ohio State football games at times, and if they are doing well or playing Michigan, I am more likely to watch.

Now, I mentioned martial arts...I have a number of friends who have high level black belts in various styles and forms, and over the years, we did quite a bit of sparing, and I even helped teach a few self-defense classes. However, while I was up to things like breaks, blind sparring, and weapons to a degree, I never really got into formalized classes/testing. The main exception was with Kendo/Iaido, which I did in college. One other martial art which I enjoyed and spent quite a bit of time doing until my back injury was something referred to as "SCA Heavy Weapons" combat. While I could just give you a few links, instead I will give you a search phrase for Yahoo! If you enter the following exactly as given, including quotes, the first two are pics from a huge (11K+ people) event in Pennsylvania, and the third is one page from my old personal site. The search term is:

pennsic "Cinnion map Liuelin map Higuel"

It has been several years since I was able to do that, but a personal stretch goal for this summer is to get back into it and get re-authorized. And for those of you who have seen me circling in the game and such, it was the martial arts, especially the SCA combat, which taught me to circle ones opponent and never stand still.

Oh, and if you count racing...I like watching Indy racing (as well as the ones where they run the Indy cars through routes in cities), and am cheering on Danica and the rest of Team Rahal Letterman, which is from here in town as well! (their HQ is only about 4 miles from where I sit right now)
