All righty! Back in September I promise all of you a review of the Depeche Mode concert. That happened Saturday! I went with Dru, Shan and Cham. We were in the 16th row from the stage on the floor. I've never been that close before and it was awesome! Maybe I should explain a little further. DM is not a moshing band. When you get seats on the floor at one of their concerts, you actually get seats. People stand up and dance anyway, but there are never any mosh pits. I think the wildest thing that happened at this concert was whens some dude got up on stage and was tackled off.

The Bravery opened for them. They played for about half an hour. I don't know any of their songs, but I'm thinking I'll have to check some out. To be honest, I didn't pay as much attention to them as I should have since I was so antsy to see DM. And I wasn't disappointed. After a grueling half hour of setting up... They finally came out! They always have elaborate lights or videos on a screen behind them to go along with the music. A majority of the time, they had cameras on the band members. Probably for people who were in the back. The colors for the lights are always awesome. Purple, light blue, hot pink. The best show of lights was for "I Feel You". Wow. I went nuts when they played that song! They also played "Personal Jesus," (another favorite of mine), "Enjoy the Silence", "Just Can't Get Enough" (I wasn't expecting this one because it was one of their firsts. Very old.) and other songs from their new CD. I was an idiot this time around and didn't get the CD before the concert so I didn't know any of the songs. Dave Gahan is the singer and is so much fun to watch. He's so charismatic on stage. He moves around and dances (Boy, can he dance! ) and is always trying to get the audience involved singing, clapping or moving their arms. Martin Gore is the songwriter and always has on funky outfits. This time around he came out in all black, with black angel wings on his back and what looked like a knitted hat with a mohawk of feathers. That came off, but the wings stayed on. I think for the Exciter tour he was wearing all white. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. He had this wicked guitar that I've never noticed before. It was in the shape of a star and was silver and sparkly. It was so cool!

The only thing we weren't too thrilled with was prices of the T-shirts and such! Good heavens. The short sleeved shirts were $35! Cham pointed out a long-sleeved one that was $70. Needless to say, we didn't get goodies. I bought the CD the day after at Target for $14. Yes, I'm cheap. Maybe I can find something a little better on eBay.

So yes, DM was awesome. They played for 2 hours only taking a couple drink breaks at the very end. I can't wait to see them again!

That would have been awesome, I just found out they have a new cd... haven't heard it yet but I like their old stuff. And the bravery is a good band to check out, they're very different... kind of like the Killers, but less rock to it if you know what i mean. Sounds like you had a great time!

I thought it was fun! It was my first concert that I've ever been to, so it was a new experience for me. As always, Boingo, Dru, and Shan are fun to be around. The new CD is good, in my opinion. I agree with the songs that they played during the concert as Boingo said...even I started to sing a little bit. Also, as Boingo stated, the shirts were really expensive. I wanted to get one, but not for that much. As my brother would of said, "at that price, they must be really proud of those shirts!"

Yup, the new CD came out on October 18th. (Same day as Batman! *ahem*) Like I said, I was a dork this time and bought it the day after the concert, but I've been listening to it non-stop since. I really like it! They've gone a little darker since their upbeat 1980's material. I don't know what kind of music you listen to, but they've been playing Precious on the radio a lot. Here's a funny story for you. I like to get CD's and movies from the library. Before I even found out the Bravery was opening for DM, I saw them on Jay Leno. I put a CD on hold (this was probably back in *snort* April or May) I waited forever! I finally cancelled the hold just before DM came....*sigh* Now I wish I hadn't. I was still 16th in line. Ugh....I'll check them out though. They were pretty cool at the concert, only it seemed like the front man was trying to be a Dave Gahan wanna-be. Dave likes to spin around in circles with the microphone stand. He pulled one of those and was trying to dance like Dave. I don't know if he was doing it on purpose, I just noticed it.

PS> A Pain That I'm Used To and John the Revelator are wickedly cool songs too!!

You were?

Just for the record, I was trying so hard to get him to dance. I was bouncing all over the place! Does your arm have bruises?

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

They played 'I Just Can't Get Enough' and 'I Feel You'?!? You lucky so and so!

Depeche Mode are a band I've always wanted to see live. I've only managed to catch Dave Gahan's solo effort, but that didn't have the majestic quality of a full DM show.

Mind you, I'm still tearfully remembering the Kiss reunion gig I caught in 1997 at the Donnigton Monsters of Rock show here in the UK. Such a great day - support coming from Ozzy, Korn (their first UK gig - back when they were good), Type O Negative and Biohazard, to name but a few. Ahhh... what a day... flagon of cider and some hand rolled cigarettes...

Type o' negetive is one of my favorite bands, but I've yet to find anyone in the states who likes them, or has actually heard of them

Type O Negative's 'October Rust' is just a stunning work of beauty! Each song is so epic in scale, from the fragile opening of 'Love You To Death' through to the hedonistic 'My Girlfriend's Girlfriend'. Whilst their other albums are still cracking items, this still stands out as their finest.

I can understand them having more of an appeal here in the UK as they have more in common with Goth Brit bands of the late 80's than those from the US scene. Their music wouldn't be out of place if it were to be included alongside a remake of 'The Lost Boys'!

They were pretty popular in the 90's when I was in high school, but they didn't release anything for so long I thought they had broken up or something untill life is killing me came out.

btw, when they started they were actually trying to make fun of goth.. and then they became probably the most popular goth band. lol

Pyra, you just found someone in the states who has heard of them. I haven't actually listened to any of their music but I have heard of them.

Depeche mode were pretty big with the skater crowd when I was in high school. 88-91. They have some good stuff, and the material I have heard off the new album sounds like pretty classic Depeche Mode.

I know Type O Negative and I'm pretty sure I have My Girlfriend's Girlfriend on my computer somewhere. They're pretty good. Ess-Jay, go see DM! They're heading out to the UK after they're finished here! Its kinda funny you mention DM being so popular with all the skaters when you were in school. Seems like most the skaters nowadays listen to music I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. DM concerts are cool though; there are so many different types of people there. I even saw a pair of grandparents and a younger girl there. Quite a variety.

After reading your post, I decided to take a look at the official Depeche Mode site for the future tour dates. As they aren't coming to the UK until April, I've just spent too much money on tickets to catch them at Marsielle in France on 1st Feb 2006 and accomodation over there. I've also ordered tickets for the Wembley gig here in April as it's the farewell show - always guaranteed to be a good one!

Damn you for making me spend, Boingo... damn you....
