Spectating

I have a question on the new spectating slots. Whenever I try and enter from the main page it always seems to put me as a a spectator rather than waiting for the next round. I don't mind, but I can't figure out how to go from spectating to waiting. I know there's a join button when you press esc. but it doesn't turn on when the round is counting down. So I was wondering if there's a way to get out of specating without having to reconnect? Probably something easy, but I haven't figured it out quite yet...

This happens to me once in a while. I think it does this when you enter a map externally (like clicking the link on this site, or, for me, testing a map from the editor) and it goes away and comes back occasionally. It's strange.
