i do alot of freelancing. thats why i die so much. sometimes i do notice that i have taken something that isnt mine. i give it back if possible. but if someone needs armor or somthing like that and i accedentally run over it,i apologize to them (again if i notice). and if i take an artifact that wasnt ment for me and the player who wanted it sends a txt message i might not read it cause sometime i jus dont take the time to read the text. it would be eaiser if they had a mic and yelled "STONED GIMME BACK MY #$!&" i will be more than happy to toss it to them. since i dont have to type in the command to toss an artiface, cause i bound it. it is easy for me to give the artifact back to the rightful owner i really dont care for camping. but if the player does need what ever it is they need, they should crouch near it, as klok posted. unless ut2k4 has the same bug as in ut99; where you can hold crouch ,for example, and then open the voice menu, release the crouch key, hear a beep, and release the voice menu key and continue crouching without holding down the crouch key. then it would cause some probs :-p

there is a way to bind crouch to a key so you dont have to hold it down. I have mine so 1 press of the C key will make me crouch and another press will make me uncrouch. I have a nasty habit of walking of the edge of things all the time so when up high i am often crouching.

[edit] if anybody wants to know how to make your crouch work like that i will post the instructions here.

Wow, this thread is soooooo hostile. Time for me to get in there. >

I have been offshore for the best part of the last two weeks and am trying to catch up with the posts, so I hope I am not to late to pop in my 2cW.

Ultimately, I think that the problem isn't how rude other players are, it is our perception and expectations of how we think that they should act. Some may not know, others may not care. A public server is similar to a bus station in that you have to deal with vagrancy.

Stealing Kills --- C'mon folks, there is no such thing. As Mystic stated, you get points for damaging the critters anyway. I look at it this way, if the critter in question is on the other team and lives for more than 10 seconds, our team is not only failing as a team but getting our team mates killed in the process. With the titan kill steal thing, the sooner that sucker hits the ground, the fewer long range missiles he tosses downrange to blindside a team mate across the map. My favorite weapon is the lightening gun and I have become adept at using it without the scope because of being in tunnel vision mode and getting blindsided by aforementioned long range missile (I was the teammate across the map). Basically, I got tired of picking gravel out of my teeth and learned to use the gun without the scope. Therefore, there is no way on earth that I can tell who is shooting at what. Besides, how can you possibly conceive ownership of a bug? This concept is outside my scope of reasoning. I agree with Dirty Deeds, if it breaths, it dies.

Artifact Theft --- Again, there is no such thing. In my opinion, when a monster vomits an artifact during the dying quivers and it lands on the ground, it is fair game. If you need it ask, if that person doesn't give it up, ask me for mine, if I have one, it is yours. I'll even hunt you down in the map and give it to you. That goes for my weapons also. Most of the 'regulars' would give you the shirt off their back even if it was their best Sunday, go to meetin' outfit anyway. Ask for help folks and you'll get it a whole lot faster than complaining that "so-and-so stole my five stage ziz-wheel", we're a team and we usually act like one.

Map Voters --- From what I understand in the UT2K4 game design you could probably fit in a thimble. However, there is some common sense that tells us that if the Map Vote Mod is open during the entire game, it can be used throughout the entire game. I do understand the frustration and borderline hatchet murderer tendencies that come out when you get voted off as it has happened to me before also, usually late at night when I am about to break my personal high score. The map vote mod works fundamentally off of a Democratic philosophy and that is how Democracy works. If enough people think in the same way, then that?s the way it happens. Don't throw stones at the people, it isn't their fault. If change is needed, change the method of government not its policies or politicians.

Double Damage Theft --- I have been both victim and purple-traitor (perpetrator) in this instance. In the case of the latter, there was no way I could stop in time to keep from being the thief. It would have been like trying to put on the brakes of a car doin' 110 when half way through an intersection and the light went red. I can see where folks get miffed when this happens, but I kinda think they should have grabbed it when they had the chance. I agree with someone else who said something along the lines of "those few seconds really don't make a difference". Also, the Supers (supershield, superhealth, superweapon) should be held in the regard of first come, first serve (and I think the new anti-superweapon-camper-you-die-if-ya-do Mod should stop folks from loitering around the DD anyway). Again, if I steal your super, and it is upsetting to you, let me know. I'll do the best I can to give ya an even or better trade.

To make a long story longer, this group and this server is like an extension of my family, and in some ways, are better than my close family. There is empathy, sympathy, brotherhood and sisterhood that make this server unique in the universe. I think it is largely due to the beliefs, morals and dedication of the owners but also to the camaraderie of the admins, contributors and players. What we all have to remember, and those of us who grew up with siblings can understand, is that within a family there is always some level of fussing and squabbling that is unavoidable. We just need to recognize it for what it is and get back to being family as soon as we can. Ask yourself this question, do you have more fun bein' mad at somebody else and complaining about it, or just lettin' them slide to get along with 'em and kill bugs?

Hope this didn?t rub anybody's fur backwards. It was supposed to be my 2cW and ended up being a dollar's worth. If I have in anyway offended anyone, you have my deepest apologies.

I've seen a certain "loaded artifact" player pickup a triple damage on purpose no less than three times while playing. I know the player spawns with those so there is no need for this. On those three occasion, I could have gotten to it in time, and once he actually saw me running for it but still took it anyway. I an very saddened by this

I don't think it is a personal attack, it may be instinctual. I do it and then realize after running halfway across the map to pick one up that I already have it. It isn't on purpose, it's one of those".....oooooo.....Shiney...." kinda things.

Hey chyster or any other admins, can we start with a link gun. I'm a noob and I'm usually dead before I can find a good weapon. Also I think that folks who have a problem ought to communicate with us noobs because we just don't have a clue.

Grr. It was probably me. I do it all the time without thinking.

Now I know it's almost certainly me.

It's hard to retrain yourself after you've been running for these items to not run for them.

Trust me, I did not mean to take an artifact someone else could have used.

However, if I have done so, I'm really not going to feel that bad about it. There's a reason I've not created any form of multi-game persistent items, and this sort of "It mine" attitude is exactly why.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Hey pigpen,

Let me tell ya a secret, I start each and every map with the same weapons that a level five player does. I may have some buffs you do not but I still find it difficult to get to weapons, and that was the way the game was designed. It's supposed to be hard to do.

But, there are some things you can do to help yourself. I used to memorize the maps by dwnlding them and checking them out offline. Now I have realized that there are some patterns that maps makers use. Knowing your maps is a fundamental rule when playing UT2K4 or any other 3D game. When you get in there, use the teleporter to move to weapons zones faster and while your moving about, keep a lookout for ammo stashes. Some map makers got pretty diabolical by putting ammo near a weapon that it doesn't match up with.

As for starting with a link gun, I don't foresee that happening but you can remain ever hopeful.

I remember that day. I believe he was shooting you because you ran between him and another player who maxed his flak and you picked it up. I remember this because he used his mic at least four times and text chat two times to let you know and you just kept running, he probably used his flak to shoot you to get your attention and to let you know the flak was what he was after. I have my "text to speech" turned on for just such occasions. Now you know... and knowing is half the battle.

Also, sometimes I'll shoot a loaded artifact player with a vampiric weapon to get his attention so he'll take it. I do this because there may be other loaded artifact players who will wonder why I didn't give it to them. I usually give it to the last loaded artifact player who maxed a weapon and I don't want to P.O. the others because I may need them sometime. Not to say they are petty but I don't want to take any chances.
