Here's a couple I've recently discovered:

And One (I don't think they're that obscure, but they aren't as well known as they should be!

You'll dig them
I saw STG open for Front 242 about 4 or 5 years ago here in Atlanta and have been a big fan since.
The new Stellastar is out soon too!

Found a new band with some good potential:

Cage the Elephant

They released their first album last year and have a couple singles out.
Their sound is reminiscent of the White Stripes (esp. the vocals) but a bit funkier.

"Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" is a great tune, and I like "In One Ear" as well.

Give them a listen and see what you think.

So this band is kinda known, but still is a bit under the radar. Silversun Pickups released their second album Swoon last week. If you liked the first album Carnavas you'll love this album. It's a more complete album and is more rock than the first... highly recommend it.

p.s. Depeche Mode released their new record as well, a bit darker and electronic than expected, but it's also good.

Owl City

One of my favorite new artists. He's like what would happen if The Postal Service took a happy pill. "Fireflies" is currently the free single of the week on iTunes.

Actually heard that song on the radio today echo, kinda weird, but it sounded like it would be ok. I was just flipping through stations.

Anyone Heard of Sick Puppies? They're pretty new as far as I know. You're Going Down is the only song I've heard. but it's pretty much amazing

Hey Ratar...anything on The Sugar Report? Been looking forward to a completed album, but haven't seen any new info on it since last year.

As for a new band... Living Things is a band I found just browsing Amazon for a few hours...really digging their album Habeas Corpus, great stuff!

Also I mentioned buying Your Vegas' album after I saw them live last December. Fantastic rock band, album's amazing, highly recommend them too.

I missed part of the superbowl tonight, so I'm not sure if Lincoln aired any commercials to advertise this, but here's a link to a free download of two Shiny Toy Guns songs and a couple other artists (Sia and CSS). Enjoy!

Heard a cool tune on my local "alternative" style station by a band called Animal Collective.

It's called "My Girls". It's sort of in no man's land as to the type of music it is. The closest thing would be pseudo-techno pop. The song is multi-layered with a synth, drum track, and cool spacey vocals, but it is really light and has a super catchy hook/chorus.

I checked out some of their other stuff, and I'm not sure if I could get into the band as a whole or not.

Anyway....check it out. I think some of the DC music buffs will like it.
