Greetings everyone, I'm thinking of attempting to gain us an amd sponsorship, and I'd like everyone's input on the email I'm preparing to send to their sponsorship group:

Here's what I've got:

Proposal Subject: AMD 64 Visibility - Gaming Community

Proposal Subject: AMD 64 Visibility - Gaming Community

Greetings,

I am the owner of a server and online gaming community called DisastrousConsequences.com for Unreal Tournament 2004.

We provide forums and a highly specialized, immersive RPG gaming environment using the UT2004 Platform. Our hardware is an AMD 64 running 64-bit Linux. Our goal is to provide clean, family-oriented fun.

We are looking to expand our community to more players, however we are currently at the limits of our 3700+ AMD 64 processor. Our server is community supported, therefore any hardware purchases must be done out of our personal pocket.

We were looking to upgrade the server to a two-processor machine with two of the latest dual core Opterons. Ideally we would go even bigger with four of the dual core Opterons; however, we can't personally afford the price of two dual core Opterons, let alone four dual core Opterons.

Thus, we are looking for AMD sponsorship in the form of a new server for our community, and we believe a partnership with AMD on this front would be mutually beneficial. What we could provide in exchange for the server would be advertising and positive publicity for AMD.

Every time a client connects to our online game, they are displayed an in game "Message of the Day." We would be happy to add a line to that message of the day stating that the server hardware has been donated by AMD, or something along these lines.

On the main page of www.disastrousconsequences.com we would be happy to advertise that the server was donated by AMD, as well as any other information or links you would like us to put in that space.

Finally we would be happy to add to the footer of our forums how the server is powered by AMD 64-bit technology with a link to wherever you would like.

If there is something else you would prefer, I would certainly be open to other ideas.

Here are some quick statistics on our server:

Since the server's inception a little more than a year ago, we have had more than 14,500 unique clients join our server to play.

We also began an online forum around 6 months ago and during that time frame our users have posted over 8,500 messages in our forums.

On average, our website receives 3,100 visits during a given month and a monthly average of 34,000 pages requested.

We have a strong international presence, with players participating from at least 35 countries during the previous year.

Obviously, our players are computer gamers, and as such they tend to upgrade to the latest and greatest hardware fairly often. I believe that if they know their community is supported by AMD, that it would drive significant sales in your direction.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Clinton Goudie-Nice

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Now I dont want you all to think that we're oober poor or anything. When I started specing out a new server with 2 Opterons the price to entry was impressive. We would be lucky to get out of newegg for less than $3500

A 4 proc server would probably something in the nature of $6000.

Also, I'm only going to have this post up for a day or so. I'd love your comments so please respond as soon as you can.

Dru

I think it's a great idea to go to them with this proposal. It's a decent letter, informative without being pushy, so I say go for it!

I would suggest letting them know that you operate a 24/7 server with significant international presence. You have players from nearly every country in Europe, many countries in Asia, as well as Australia. Getting international buy time is a big plus over a server that operates 80 hours a week on America only time. And you might want to fill them in on the server maintenance that is performed and how keeping your server not only up to date but ahead of the game has given you much recognition in the UT community and grown you a substantial base of regular players, as well as a constant stream of new faces who have been referred to your server. Also let them know that much of your maintenance, coding and modifactions are used by many servers in the UT community.

Great idea. Ive been looking at upgrading my 3200 to the dual core but haven't got around to getting it done yet. As far as the proposal goes I think it should be fine, you don't really want to bore them with more info or anything I would think.

when you buy something finding out the details of your purchase isn't really a bore so much as a necessity. I would actually like to set myself up with a dual dual core rig, but am waiting to see how it fleshes out for others first. Just like that laser eye surgery, I have my eye on you laser eye surgery, I have my eye on you...

It seems like a great idea. I'm not great with letters but everything there seems fine to me. Persuasive but not pushy.

If this sponsership happens what (in general terms, so i can understand) will happen to the server?

The whole thing seems like a good idea. I also have the same concern as eyesore regarding downtime of the server if the switch happens. Otherwise it sounds great. AMD server... ftw.

Good idea you have Dru. I also agree with CPL in stating that you have an international precense. I also think it is good that you put in specific numbers such as stating how many people visit the website in a particular amount of time and how many players come into the game in a given amount of time. Numbers are always something the people in marketing would look at.

Terrific idea i think, a great way to expand an already fantastic server.

Your letter seems fine to me Dru (im no expert myself at writing letters though), just include some or all of what Cpl said and i think you will have a very good chance with this sponsorship.

I look forward to seeing how this turns out...
