I know this band is getting a bit more well known, but Shiny Toy Guns has a new album out "Season of Poison." They have a new lead female vocalist as well. I personally love the new album, but it's definitely more rock than their first album. They haven't lost their sound, but it's much heavier this time around. I'm going to see them in concert tonight so I'm ecstatic, but I highly suggest the album if you liked their first!

Oh, and Ratar... any news on The Sugar Report's album?

I've heard a little bit of the new album, and I really like it, but not in the same way that I like We Are Pilots. The female singer (I forget her name) left to join a band called Versant (it's on myspace music).

Yeah, Carah... I think.... the new vocalist Sisely Treasure is very good, but definitely different. I'll be sure to look into Carah's new band, I still am a bit disappointed she left though.

Well the concert was fantastic. Shiny toy guns seemed to have a much greater amount of energy due to their new singer, Sisely. She seemed extremely excited to be up there and it translated to a really energetic show. The band stuck around after the show so I got to meet them.... they pretty much hung out with the small crowd left which was awesome. The opening act was of a British band known as Your Vegas. I highly recommend this group, they sound like a mix between The Bravery and The Killers. I'm going to try and find their album "A Town and Two Cities" this week. Their myspace page is linked below.

grrr... they're not touring with each other on the west coast. And the only venue Shiny Toy Guns are playing at is in San Francisco, which also happens to be the most expensive stop on their tour. Sad.

Yes, pick up A Town and Two Cities. It's a good album, one of my favs.

Has anyone heard of Green Jelly? I heard their song "Three Little Pigs" the other day and got a kick out of it.

I remember when they used to be Green Jello, and because they made their hit, they had to change their name

Okeedokee, guess I'll toss in a few more!

The Gaslight Anthem
Kind of the Bruce Springsteen of punk. Not quite as bar-scene as Social D, but well on their way. Kindof a Social D meets The Ataris...

Heavenly
Power/Progressive metal in the same field as Blind Guardian and Kamelot. Nothing terribly unique here but if you like the named bands, you'll dig these guys!

Lyrycyst
Hip hop. This guy has incredible flow and his lyrics are awesome. The guy actually has morals as well! Flys in the face of mainstream rappers, good sauce!

Ok, well I think I've covered the genre spread! Good tunez is good tunez, sez I!

cheers.

Not really a new band, but it seems they are starting to break out a bit.

The Decemberists. They get a lot of airplay on the "alternative music" type radio station hear in the Twin Cities.

Their sound is a bit hard to describe, but they seem to like to do concept albums (for better or worse). Their latest album is "The Hazards of Love", and it is growing on me.

I am not necessarily a fan of the whole "concept album" idea, but one of my favorite albums ever is "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" by the Flaming Lips. I dunnno, that album just works (as strange as it is).

That's the same vibe I get from The Decemberists. Their album tells a story and it's works well.

Now I hafta go back and check out some earlier stuff.

Summit Extra Pale Ale....the best beer known to man.
