How come the UT2003 Invasion game type was taken out (the one with 32 waves)? It was a good challenge. Will it be enabled again?

*Crosses fingers that it will be re-enabled*

Yeah, I liked it alot too. It was definately a real challenge even though some monsters were not available in that game type. The 2003 translocator rocked as well, just ask Cloud the telefrag champion of the world.

good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun.

I didn't play UT2K3 enough to know the difference between the translocators... how do they work and what makes them different from UT2K4? Just curious.

it got boring after wave after wave of the same thing after the warlord wave. the warlord wave was the challenging part. didnt see any queens or titans either.

The 2003 Tranny was a little bigger and telefragged much much easier.

if I bring it back, it's entirely unlikely to go beyond wave 16. Sorry kids. It's too hard for new players if it just keeps going... not to mention that by the end of it I'm about ready to yark

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

But then again Dru, Whenever we win and a new player is playing, they get more experience for the win. Plus I liked the challenge of 32 waves.

I have to chime in here as a big supporter of UT2003 invasion.

I liked having more than 16 waves--I thought it was especially challenging, and made the game more "strategic" because after awhile you had to really think about where you went, what you did, and why.

I also like the monsters in UT2003 invasion. I'm not a big fan of titans or the snake-like things, and really feel that not all the monsters that are available make the game better. Playing UT2003 invasion, it's clear that the designers thought about which monsters to include and why--they feel like they belong there, rather than just having been thrown in along with everything else.

Finally, I did like the translocator in UT2003. It added something to the game, and became a sort of skill in itself. You couldn't always use the translocator, and if you didn't use it carefully, you'd end up being telefragged in the process.

for the people who want to play a 32 wave invasion,
read my sig for the IP, since of earlier today my server has gone open to the public.
meaning everybody can join, it is 32 wave, so though i might aswel post it inhere,
incase druid might not put back his.
it isnt realy UT2003 invasion by the way,
just wel.. its different
and for the rpg, it isnt the normal 15+5 rate
starts at 100 and goes pretty nicely, but still faster then here
but when around lvl 250, you need about 19000 exp
just for the people who care about that, [also 7 stat points a lvl]

Sometimes we ask for things that may be really cool, but for reasons unknown to us, can't happen. I think it would be really cool for me to win the Texas Lottery when it gets up around 500 million. But, I am glad that I haven't 'cause I would probably be a fat, lazy bum that plays video games way to much.

Oh, wait, bad example.

I too am a fan of 2K3 if for nothing other than the teleporter (I learned a lot by watching Cloud snap bugs into pieces with that sucker). It is hard on the newbies due to the loooong waiting period between death and respawn and the Warlord waves can't be good for the server.
But, on the other hand, what 2K3 did for me as a low level player was allow me to lurk after dying and watch how the server was run, feel out the other players, watch and learn some new techniques and become accustomed to the rules.

I was raised under the philosophy that "You get what you get when you get it" and so, though I would like to see a come back of 2K3, I still have jsut as much fun without it.

If at first you don't friccasee, fry, fry a hen.

And in case your wondering deunan, no that is not me with a paper bag on fire over my head. I may be crazy, but im not THAT crazy, heh!

And i agree with what chyster had said. The few times i played ut2k3 invasion, my character was like low-mid 20s and i died ALOT and VERY early each wave, usually without scoring any kills. But i still loved playing ut2k3 invasion for the reasons chyster described as well as the fact that when playing ut2k3 inv, everybody becomes more serious and starts playing at their best. You get that extra challenge, that extra drive and motivation to fight on which you dont get in standard invasion.
Also, like chankie said, people become more "strategic" during 2k3 inv and everybody plays more like a team instead of just running around with the intention of gaining the highest score. What i remember most of ut2k3 invasion was the great teamwork and communication between everybody, thus generating a terrific atmosphere (im not saying the server has a bad atmosphere when its not ut2k3 inv). What i personally miss about ut2k3 invasion was not only the challenge, but mainly the atmosphere it creates and just how it pushes everybody to play their best.

Sorry for the long rant, i must sound like an angry old man, heh!
