RadicalROM is the only one I have been known as since 1982. People tell me that it is so old sounding, well guess what, I am older then the average, so what.

In 1982, I cough cough was modifying Apple programs and needed handle to hide from. ROM of course is from a ROM chip, and when I was in high school there was an underground newspaper called "The Radical", and I just merged them together and thats it.

Yep not a nifty story, but what the heck.

Now has anyone ever searched for your AKA on google? I am happy that only my items come up.

In the UT99 days I was travelling almost non-stop all over the country and the only computer I had access to was my work laptop. It was a Toshiba Tecra 3000, I believe. No 3D card. So I had to use software 3D and the only way I could get a decent framerate was to run in, yep, 320x240 resolution.

When you enter the Player setup screen, the default player name was whatever resolution you were currently running in. And I thought, heh heh that's kind of funny...

It also kind of resonated with me because I've been playing games since the Atari 2600 and I still remember the "mega arcades" of the early '80s (hundreds of games in arcades back then). I have a fondness for old skool games and still occasionally bust out the C64 emulator for some Wasteland, Below the Root, Ultima, Bruce Lee, etc.

I got pretty good at Assault on UT99, to the point where I could often win the standard maps by myself. And people would say, "You can't really be running in 320x240!"

Well dang, I don't think I ever posted in these here threads.

As a youngun, I started out on a Mac. At least, it was the first computer I really took to; before that, I did have a Leading Edge 68040 machine, which I crashed so many times my poor mom lost count.

Anywho! One of the Mac cultish symbols is a dogcow, whose origination is a symbol in the Macintosh version of the Wingdings font, Cairo. No one could decide if it was a dog or a cow, so it became both. My forum avatar is a dogcow, so look to the left!

What's a dogcow say? Moof! Why? Because it sounds much better than Baoo or Wooo or Ofmo.

Now, technically, the dogcow's real name is Clarus, but I didn't know that at the time, and this name has long since stuck, even long after I moved to PC land.

My very first online name, in America Online v2.0, was MoofD21. I didn't like how that sounded, though, and I moved to an intermediary name, SouthpawMF, still reflected in my Yahoo account. For a very long time, I used the name Southpaw018 (and still do in most places), because it struck me as sounding much nicer than the other two, but I returned to the name Moof for games in while I was in college. And there you have it...a very long "your name" story.

Wow, the resurection of old threads...

Well, Mine needs no explination.

I've had several names in the past. Talcum X was one of them. An obvious play on Malcom X. But, since I'm white, I put in Talcum (the powder). I love puns and parodies. Collect and write such music. I dont know Malcom's last name, or if it was a made up name to disguise his real identity, never watched the moive, sorry. So he was an "unknown". So with all that, my name translated was the Unknown, funny, white guy.

As for my current, as lame and unimaginative as it is, I wanted to use something dif. for UT and when I fell in love with the Flak Cannon I soon was awarded the Flak Monkey often. So thought it would be cute to have the same name so the computer would say my name every match.
And now you know....the rest of the story.

My current skin After several other skins, I have reverted back to Bender.

Flak Monkey -> Berserker ( 818 )
Flak Junkie -> AM (60)
Monkey Wrench -> Engineer (27)

Well not to revive an old thread but during a few years of my life, I experienced a feeling of insanity and spinning. Things were really out of control in my life and well thats kinda where the insane thing comes from. I always had an interest in insanity because a lot of times my friends told me that I would act crazy and that I would do crazy things. Whoa and behold they were right. The maniac thing came from, believe it or not the emotion known as "O_o" Believe it or not, when I played on the 9th Command on the Alien Versus Predator 2 server, I would post the "O_o" from time to time.

At first I thought it was really funny and then the emotion started to grow on me and well ever since then it stuck on me. I was the kind of guy that would do some of the most idiotic and crazy things. Going head to head with a predator just using a knife or a shotgun. Slashing at an alien with a knife and even just going all wild when I was an Alien. Heck if I knew I was going to be killed, I would take myself and my enemy with me. So that if I died and he died, he wouldn't get that point he wanted. My mentality was, "You ready for this, let's go! Bring it on! " So basically, I grew into a crazy, trigger happy, twitchy player that would jump right into the heat of the battle. Hence the name Insane_Maniac.

My name isn't as sentimental as everyone else's, but before I was known as echo, I went by the name of phantom. I changed it because phantom was a relatively common name and it became confusing at times. I was just flipping through the dictionary and read one of the definitions for echo, "figurative, have a continued significance or influence" and it just clicked with me. My names have always been in caps because I like letters being equally spaced. I guess I'm just weird like that

Outside of games my alias is usually nosoupforyou, because the soup nazi from seinfeld is awesome!

I'm logged on as Mrs_D but I'm actually Old_Man_Donovan. The story of my name goes back generations. As a kid we always called our father "The Old Man", as did our fathers before us. My family lives really old (100 + years if their wives don't kill them first), and age is a thing of pride and respect. Lately I have caught my 3 teenagers calling me The Old Man. It's also a term used in the military when talking about the commanding officer. Am I really old some might ask? Well, old enough to have used punched cards in my college programming courses. Here's a secret. Most old people are actually young party animals who woke up one morning in an old decrepid body. So no, I'm not really old.

Well hey D, dont feel bad. If you can still game then your young in my opinion. They say your only as old as you think, in fire's case, even though he's somewhere in his 20s to 30s, he thinks he's still a teenage heartthrob.

Your name is cute Manda, Whether you like it or not, what would we do if we didn't have a name to identify us?

Amen, Mrs_D, Amen. Feel lucky tho, my kids call me "the old man" to my face..............

Wow Demon, I thought you were younger. Man I feel like a young kid here.

Thanks Insane, I needed that...........my baby son just got back from 2 battle tours in Afganistan 3 months ago and is now stationed in Ft. Campbell KY as a communications liasion with the special forces recon units stationed there. BTW, he is 23...........but yes, I'm young at heart, tho the body kinda tells me otherwise.

Like Mrs_D, my freshman year of college, I took programming and had to punch those )(&%(&^% cards as well.

I always like when I play computer games with people who have kids older then I am. It's a sign of a very good game I'd have to play.
