3. Discuss a skill and what it does for your type of play.

Oy TK point fingers in other threads will ya

1st always keep up with your loaded engineer save up points so you can buy it when your the right level, 2nd spend the left over points on shield regen, shield healing and engineer awareness, then construction health bonus.

You get Shield Blast at shield healing lvl 3, this is very useful if everyone's shield are gone and a lot is going on, it is also a good way to get xp if a lot of people are near each other and your all out of shields.

Another thing a lot of engineers really don't like other engineers setting up inside their base/setting up too close to their base, like putting a sentinel in front of a turret or the other way around, just try to be courteous.

Kneeling next to block deletes them and transing into them deletes them, be careful you can get yourself and everyone else killed if all of a sudden there is a gaping hole in the wall.

Vehicles driven into a block will drag the block around and make other weird physics breaking things happen.

VERY IMPORTANT, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES STEAL ANOTHER ENG'S TURRET OR EVEN GET IN IT WITHOUT ASKING!!!
This is both rude and dangerous for both of you, if he has to quick jump in to keep from dieing and your there he might die, then the turret disappears and your both in deep crap.

Re: So you want to be a Engineer Player?

I have found that bases are all well and good when you need the help, but on waves that you can survive on your own, do it.

On earlier waves I plant my sent where it will see the most monsters depending on the flow of the map and where the monsters tend to gather from different corridors. then I roam around killing monsters and returning every couple of laps to "juice up" my sent.

As things ramp up in level, I stick closer to my sent.

At the end of wave 5 and 13 I have a fall back and place a defense sent. titan rocks are deadly and slow, so the defense sent is not immediately overwhelmed by them. If I can I also make sure to have my adrenaline full. Berserk works wonders if you are at all accurate with the link.

later waves I look for a base and someone to link too. some of the higher level eng will be easy enough to let you do this if you ask first and they often have more adrenaline for running berserk, with your link you should do better exp wise then if you fired alone.

A note: while lightning sent does less damage and gets less kills than the regular sent, it does work through blocks, which lets you place it behind a wall, this protects it from damage on later waves and it still does damage that the regular wouldn't. While it does not work that well v.s. titans, it seems to do very well v.s warlords.

Which is true. But I added a lot of information about the Engineer class. If you do find omissions or errors please let me know.
In the case of what you can buy at what level, I didn't add this for two reasons

The Monster Master Summoning page did not say what pets you can summon with what points, and I wanted to match the existing style

I do not know what you can summon at what level. It is a server side configuration, so it depends on what Druid and Shantara have configured in. And it could change. I have asked other players for this information (see this thread), but do not have a complete list yet.

If I can get a list of what pets can be summoned at what level, and what constructions can be made at what level, then I will update both.

First of all i don't have medic awareness and i don't pay much attention to someones health, so sorry if you feel that way.

Now back to the subject: I would suggest getting all the core abilities first like, listing them in order from which I think is best to get.

1. Engineer class 1
2. Shield healing 45
3. Damage Bonus 80
4. Damage Reduction 50
5. Weapon Speed 50

Adrenaline, ammo, and health bonus are unimportant at the moment, I would advise to get engineer class, obviously, then loaded engineer every 6 levels along with maxing your shield healing to 3. And the remainder of your points should be put into these core abilities.

This should bring us at about 80+50+50+1+45=226
226/7=about level 33

From level 33 you should have all of these, of course you can do it in any order you desire, from here i would start on shield regen and health bonus.

6. Shield Regen 60
7. Health bonus 100

60+100+226=386
386/7=about level 56

And please tell me if i am missing anything as the class has changed over time and i forget, I will post more later.

for those of us not quite as awesome as Elite, who kills everything almost instantly and does not need things like health or shields very often 8-|

Buy at least one level of shield regeneration as soon as you can afford it. It may not seem like much, but it makes a difference.

Elite:

Not intended as any disrespect, but you do somethings that the majority of players do not on this server, you hit with the majority of your shots and you tend to maximize the damage that you do. You play extremely aggressively where the majority of players I have seen just play to survive until they reach higher level. I know it works for you because you have a number of characters and have passed everyone of the characters that I have in level, by large margins (double my level in many cases) in a fairly short period of time.

I've started working on my engineer and I found Shield Regeneration to be a lifesaver, espically 21+ when you drop to Ghost 1 and spawn with 1 health.

Right now I have it at 10 which allows 5 shield regen a sec when not getting hit and 100 health bonus and 50 weapon speed. I felt that getting weapon speed over damage bonus was a bit more helpful (since its a choice between firing 1% faster or doing 0.5% more damage) since you have an infinite weapon.

Of course getting LE every 6 levels is pretty much granted.

I have hit a bit of a crossroads though getting at 30. It depends on the way you play. If you find yourself alone most of the time, go for damage and health, then construction health bonus. If you find yourself in a base, or hanging out in an area sharing kills with others go with shield healing 3. this will give you shield blast which is a cheap way to pick up extra exp. sure you could repair the shields by hand, but not to yourself as well. One other thing. Shields up skill cost 20 for the first level which gives you 25 shield, a real bargin. second level is 25 for 25. having 200 shield I have found is kind of handy because with shield blast you can repair it yourself for 25 adrenaline.

The Sentinel can get you a lot of xp fast. It is also less likely to be targeted by monsters.
The Lightning sent is usually the first thing in a room to be targeted by monsters because it is usually the first thing to attack the monsters. This can be useful for drawing monsters into a location ideal for you turret.

Shieldblast is handy for staying alive. Keybind it if you can. If you are low on health just keep your shields above 100.

Vehicles can be useful too (except the TC)
The scorpion blades instantly kill many monsters. It is useful for getting to other sides of the map quickly...Try and keep you web charged up while traveling to attack monsters you can't get to.
The Hellbender is a portable turret. After entering the driver seat you can press 1-3 to get into different seats. Seat 2 is handy for clearing rooms full of monsters. Fire a bunch of plasma balls in the area then use the alt fire to detonate them all. While they are detonating fire more plasma balls to finish off any monsters nearby.

Vehicle eject has saved me many times, but at level 1 i have to wait 2 mins before it will save me again. If you get ejected, don't rush to get back into a turret.

If there is a noob stealing your turret spawn a TC or another vehicle.

Small blocks will not disappear from players crouching by them. They are much quicker to spawn too. Use them instead of regular blocks when making perimeters.

3) What friendly-fire do blocks stop? I know lightning sentinels can fire through them, as well as defense sentinels, but what about lightning rods, splash damage, etc?

4) What about rocks vs. blocks? I've seen a single Titan rock take out up to four freshly placed blocks (deep) in a row with one rock! Alternately, I've seen a single block stop 3 Titans' rocks for up to 20 seconds before giving out. Is it the Titan's level that makes this difference?

Fire a bunch of plasma balls in the area then use the alt fire to detonate them all. While they are detonating fire more plasma balls to finish off any monsters nearby.

If you shoot a bunch of plasma balls successively out, then shoot a single alt-beam to detonate them for about 1/10 of a second, then immediately let up on the alt-beam and hold down the main plasma ball repeater again quickly, you can get the balls setting each other off continuously. Its difficult to do until you get good at it, but the effect is a long succession of shock-blasts detonating each other about thrice per second as long as you hold down the fire button. The blasts advance upon you slowly... like about 3 feet each blast... ending automatically when it reaches the vehicle.

The timing of the alt-beam is the crucial part... you have to experiment with it. First you learn to set off the chain reactions and keep them going for a few blasts. Then after you get better, you learn to get them to start further and further away from the vehicle so you can get long-duration shock blast streams going from far away, annihilating everything in between you and the targets. One key is to keep the blasts a little bit away from your targets, since hitting any target directly with any of your streamed plasma-balls stops the effect.

I've cleared hords of warlords in a tight area with about 5 seconds of these things -- all in one motion. It also kills off Titans and Queens pretty quick after you get better at it. (sometimes in groups)
Funnest is killing off about a dozen skaarg bunched up in a hallway area all in about 6 seconds of blasts in one motion. :)

I made it to level 14 engineer today.
I made a list of the points required for each item so far:

Code:

Defense Sentinel 5
Lightning Sentinel 8
Sentinel 10

Mini Turret 4
Energy Turret 8
Ball Turret 10

TC 2
Scorpion 5
HellBender 8

Small Block 1
Block 1
Wall 5
High Wall 7
Nest Wall 8
Curved Wall 9
Tall Nest 12
Square Wall 14

That should give you an idea what level you get each thing up to 14. I will try and remember to update it again when I level.

Also, I think it is at level 11 you get to spawn 2 def sents. I don't remember being able to spawn two at lvl 10.

Re: So you want to be a Engineer Player?

More engineer advice

Sentinels:
Try and place sentinels (any type) on the ceiling if possible: Floor sents tend to be destroyed quicker. Sometimes if a titan steps on it, it will just disappear. Also floor sents tend to block your shots and can restrict movement within a base. An offensive ceiling sent can usually target more monsters.

Protect lightning sents with walls. If you have a lightning sent on the floor, put some blocks around it. The sent can shoot through the blocks. Later levels allow you to spawn a def sent with a lightning sent. use the def sent to protect the lightning sent.

Monsters tend to attack lightning sents more than the other sents. The lightning sent is usually the first to attack a monster in the vicinity. The lightning sent can be used to bait the monsters into your line of sight (for your turret or hellbender combo attack)

Protect yourself. Waves 6 and 14 are titan waves. Make sure you have your def sent(s) out by the time the waves start. Offensive sents can be useless on these waves since titans can take them out instantly. Two well placed def sents can really maximize your lifespan. Save up your dren on the prior waves so you can go bezerk. Keep an eye on those def sents too. Its pretty common to see most of the players wiped out shortly after the def sents are destroyed. Also, don't worry about the projectiles that keep coming at you, your def sents most likely destroyed them...they will continue to exist due to a limitation in the code. Def sents also get you exp now (thanks Szlat.)

Blocks:
"Hey don't destroy my blocks!!!"
Blocks can be destroyed by translocating into them, or crouching (except small blocks.) If you are building a base, allow a reasonable gap for players to enter/exit through.

Don't underestimate the small blocks. They can be spawned quickly (3 secs). They also don't disappear when a player crouches. They will last much longer than normal blocks. Monsters that can jump over the small blocks, can jump over the normal blocks anyway. Players have an easier time hurdling over the small blocks too.

Spawn a step stool. Use a small block as a platform to get your shots through a window or over a crowd of players heads.
You can also use a block as a ceiling to keep you grounded when the titans pounce.

Vehicles:
Clear the room with the Bender. The Bender combo mentioned in an earlier post is great for clearing out the room (and removing pesky red gnats.) The Bender can be used as a mobile turret. Press 1 to drive, 2 for plasma cannon, and 3 for Ion gun. There are many locations on a map that you cannot spawn a turret, but you can drive a bender into them and use it as a turret.

Occasionally you might find yourself OUT OF BOUNDS. As long as you are in view of a monster you should be fine...so if you get a OB message in between waves, step out of the vehicle and wait until monsters arrive.

The scorpion blades can kill many monsters instantly...it takes some practice though.

The TC is useless...Trooper did point out that they are fun for racing.(anyone have a piercing blue turtle shell?)

Flubber cars. Blocks and Vehicles don't seem to get along. If you run over blocks with a vehicle, weird things tend to happen, and your vehicle will start floating. You can't control it, but you might be able to utilize the increase in elevation. Sometimes the vehicle will pancake a couple of monsters on its own this way. If you are racing Trooper, try and turn his car into a flubber car ;)

Turrets:
Low level players can link high level players in turrets and get a couple of levels quickly.
Make sure you have eject if you are going to use a turret. Dying in a turret without eject has been known to crash the server. This might be corrected at some point, but until then buy eject.
Each turret has some advantages
The mini turret is the first turret you get, but wont be replaced by the other turrets when you get them. The mini turret has the shortest clearance requirement and you may find that only a mini turret will fit.

The mini and energy turrets hits their targets instantly whereas the ball turret requires you to lead your target.

The energy turret has a wider range of motion than the other two.
The ball and mini can be zoomed in and out with the up/down keys, while the energy uses a toggle zoom via alt fire.

Other stuff:
If you find yourself with a broken trans, spawn a block.
Use your link alt fire when you are close enough to a monster, and aim at their heads when ever you can.
Shield boost players whenever possible. It only takes a second, and you can get more exp in that one second than killing anything.
Don't link a player that is linking a turret, link the turret directly.
If you used an adren combo, you can stop it by entering a turret or vehicle.
If you have stunt vehicles you can hold jump or crouch after jumping to flip. (no real use for this though)

Nice post greg11. Even I learnt something. :)
Only thing I would clarify is the bit about linking to turrets.

Only Engineers get a bonus from linking to a turret, not anybody else (except on a server using link turrets)

The damage is increased according to the number of engineers linking directly to the turret. So 3 engineers linking means the turret does 4* damage. The xp is shared equally between the 3 linking and the person in the turret. The person in the turret does not have to be an engineer, but armor vampire does help.

The engineers link gun will also heal turrets. It cannot boost turrets and heal them at the same time. So if a turret gets healed, it will be half a second before the boosting and xp sharing cuts back in. So, it helps if all the engineers linking also place defense sentinels to stop themselves and the turret taking damage.

It is only turrets you get xp from/give a damage boost to. Not vehicles. So linking to a vehicle will not increase the damage done by the vehicle nor will it give the engineer xp

Re: So you want to be a Engineer Player?

iv been playing the engineer for a while now and have got some tactics than can be real usefull.

Generally as an engineer, you want to be making a base at some point as it will provide protection for everyone else and gives you a safe place to shoot. you can generally start making these simple bases as soon as you get your defence sent. its allso worth using the mingun turret as soon as you get it as you may not have very good wep speed or DB and i find its a little more accurate than ur link, as well as providing more protection.

things become a LOT more fun when you get your lightning sent and hellbender. both of these can get you masses of xp.

the lightning sent will attract alot of fire, but if you hide and heal it it will yield allot of xp and kills if no1 else is in your base. the best spot for a lighning sent base is a U shaped corridor. use your blocks to block each end of the corridor, at the two "tops" of the U and place ur sent at the wall furthest away (the bottom of the U) preferably on the cieling. crouch up next to the opposite wall where your sent is. and constantly heal it. if its doing ok you can peep round the corners and finish everything of.

Blocks at these ends

U

sent

This works for all waves exept titans. change for a defence sent there and shoot with beserk on. this can sometimes even last wave 16 if your good so is real usefull. if you can do defence sent and lightning use your defence sent too.

Hellbender shock turret is IMENSE. you can get tonnes of xp just spamming this. simply build a hellbender and drive it itno a corner. put some blocks around and as many defence sents as you can and shoot away. ultra kills and more are possibel from wave 3+ if your good. this base will fail at the warlords and titans tho.

when you get your sentinel you can start playing properly. by now your stats should be pretty beefed up and youll be able to roam about in the open till about wave 1-10 dependent on your skill. place your sentinel somewhere where it will be seeing allot of monsters and runn around spamming your link gun. use primary fire nearly all the time but the the link for those metal skaarj and shield skaarj. use shiled blast to keep your shileds up but preserve enough adren for beserk on titans. FIND THE DOUBLE DAMAGE. if you have your DB and WS maxed, use beserk and DD and a titan will last seconds against you. juts keep strafing and you should last enough time to get a decent amount of xp.

When youve maxed Loaded engi save our defence sent till the titans and put that up for a bit of defence. the paladin is useless past wave 8, but up until titans you can get about 400points. iv had a score of 800 after wave 6 before by using the paladin on earlier waves. its not the best for higher waves, but by no means useless.

Another way to get xp is you standard base with blocks, defence sent and turret. i find this boring tho.

i find that playing aggressivly on the engi is awesome and can get tonees of xp, but youve gotta remember your not gona last past wave 8-10 doing this. youve got to have some kind of refuge. allso i tihnk its kind to lower levels to give them somewhere to hide when thing get crazy on higher waves.

Monster Masters do not have console commands, and so the Engineers haven't for consistency.

There is a difference between things you need in the middle of a battle and things you want to create. Weapons and artifacts need to be instantly accessible. I expect engineers to be building things more in the gap between waves, as time is required to boost the health of the construct, so I don't consider time so crucial.

Also the list of items engineers can spawn will change from site to site. So would need a different set of console commands according to what vehicles etc they configure in. I haven't yet got around to creating a configurable extensible set of console commands - all the existing ones are hard coded as to what you type.

It may be possible to have have console commands like "select first turret" and "select first vehicle" etc., but I can't see us getting "select hellbender" in the near future.

It would be nice if we could selectively kill a construction.
Having to kill both sents to change one, or relocate one is frustrating.

could we have a kill object artifact that destroys whatever we are targeting?
Or automatically kill the oldest object in that category: If i spawn a lightning sent, then a def sent, spawning another defsent will kill the lightning sent instead of giving a message...same with blocks.

Also I think I noticed what causes the spawn timer to die, but i am not sure yet. Can watch for this: If a player has a spawn timer active when they die, I think they loose their spawn timer display. For a fix, is it possible to recreate the spawn timer display if the player tries to spawn something when the timer is active?

Re: So you want to be a Engineer Player?

*cough* team play *cough*

It's generally considered fine to build in another engineer's base without asking, in fact it is usually welcomed as long as the constructions make the base stronger and don't impair the function of the existing base. For example placing a new turret that blocks the view of an existing turret, or placing an offensive sent in front of someone's energy wall are both things that would screw up a base.

I'm pretty sure generalists can't make entire bases on their own, so they pretty much have to add to existing bases. And I believe if that player isn't being a jerk about it, he or she is well within bounds.

Re: So you want to be a Engineer Player?

Fallen, all you have done is complain and complain about things ON this server and the people who play here. I've played here for quite a few years and have NEVER seen ANYBODY complain as much as you have in the last few days. I am almost sure anyone and everyone else who has read your posts are tired of your complaining.

You don't want people building in your base? Don't build one. Your looking at that entirely the wrong way. Instead of looking at it like "they're stealing my xp!" Try looking at it as, "they're keeping me alive longer so I can get more xp," because ultimately that's what is happening.

You want the game to be so easy that you don't even have to do anything to level. You don't want teamplay, that's quite obvious, so my suggestion is to play single player or find another server. This is a community server, meaning we help each other out, we protect each other from getting killed as best we can, and as far as I'm concerned you don't want to be part of our comminity by the way your complaining all the time.

All of your complaining is extremely insulting to me. As far as I'm concerned you are doing nothing more then insulting the server I play on and the people I play with. You will NEVER find a better server to play on then DC, and you will NEVER find a better group of people to play with.

And to all my friends and comrades here at DC: if I offended any one of you with this post or made you feel as if I have stepped on your toes in any way I truly apologize, it was not my intentions to do so. I am merely defending DC and the amazing community we have here!!
