Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Get your maps here. (Minor update 2/24/08)

EDIT: 2/23/08 It appears that there was a problem with my web host (see 12dollarhost.com to be amused). I've moved the files to a more appropriate host.

DC MAP PACKS

This is meant to be a quicker way to get most of the maps in play on the server. I have included links to existing official and third party map packs, as well as map packs compiled from maps that otherwise would have to be downloaded individually. DC Map packs are in 7zip format to decrease the size of the downloads. Download 7zip here. It may be necessary to right-click/save as to download 7zip format files.

These are not new maps in terms of them having just been added to the server. However, most of the maps in use on the server are not installed with the game. These packs just provide a quick (well, as quick as it can be) way to get a nearly complete set of the maps with all support files that are in use on the server.

It is nice to not have to download maps whenever a round ends.

Also, none of the maps that come on the official game CDs are in these packs. All of these were downloaded from sites like filefront or beyondunreal with one exception (had to dig into the cache).

I like the dates you put in in the first part of your first post, that lets me know when the were added. I would like to see dates in the later part too.

new or updated, doesn't really matter, keep downloading them over and over because "They're good packs".

I don't subscribe to that way of thinking. <---( yeah, I can get grumpy sometimes. I'm too old to put up with such flippant statements)

If I see the word updated it means to me that they are updated. A simple date is all I ask, as in:
Ultimate Community Map Pack 2 updated (or added) 5/9/06
Platform Neutral - UCMP-Volume2.zip 246MB

Flag Pack updated (or added) 3/19/06
Platform Neutral - flagpack2004.zip 80MB

UT Classics Map Pack updated (or added) 2/11/06
Platform Neutral - UT_Classics.zip 50MB

I see I only have to download Ultimate Community Map Pack 2 because it was updated today and the others I know I already downloaded when they were added months ago. I honestly don't remember what I've downloaded in the past and the date will help me see what is new. If Cazius, in his first post, adds UT Classics Map Pack 2, and just writes NEW MAPS ADDED, other than having a photographic memory, I won't know which I added and when it was added.

If I decide not to read the forums for a month, but play the game everyday for two weeks, i'm bound to automaticly download the new maps through the game. At the end of the month I come back to the forums and read a new map is added, naturally I'll download it because I have no idea if it was added in the two weeks I played or if it was added in the two weeks I didn't play. A simple date can be very helpfull in this situation.

The later part of his post, or the "Official/Other Packs" are provided by other folks and have been available for some time. Those individual map packs will likely not be updated - possibly only new packs added. If he does add a new community pack, he might put a date on it when he added it.

The stuff in the early part of his post ("DC Packs") are packs that he put together himself, downloading/obtaining individual maps not already in a map pack (Dru's put a *ton* of them on the server), and took the time to put them in to five massive packs. Those he might update from time to time, so that's why they're dated.

Re:Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Get your maps here. *(Updated)*

All of the map packs in the original post (the ones I didn't make included) were posted at the same time. They should all be the same as they day I posted them. I would find it quite disturbing if the third party map packs were being changed after they were published. I would be even more distrubed if it happened on the official ones. When I eventually do update the post with new packs, I will post dates for them.

The "updated" portion of the title was added to indicate that I had changed from a 1 pack structure (take a look very deep in the maps forum to find the original post) to keeping all of the packs separate. The change was made because I can't put a 1.7 GB file on filefront and I no longer have the massive bandwidth needed to host it myself (and updates would be painful). However, I will attempt to remove "updated" from the title.

I am aware that there are several maps in the packs I created (as well as the official packs) that are being downloaded from the server anyway. This happens because different versions of maps are released under the same filename and the server sometimes uses a different version than what is linked on the official map download page. The server can differentiate the different versions by calculating a MD5 sum for each file to compare what the server and client has (seriously, check the index file of the cache sometime).

On a side note, I have requested the MD5 sums of all the map files from our fearless leaders so I can verify that I have the correct maps in the future and possibly release a patch pack to fix the bad maps. However, as they just got a new server, I suspect that it will be some time before they have time to work on this.

just get your self this tool, utcachemanager, it takes your cache ut2k4 maps and put them in the correct place so once you download a map from the server you wont download again, you will have the correct map, and the whats best, most of the time, DC'ers play in what
20- 30? maps at most so you wont have to download the whole bunch of maps, and never use them..

Re:Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Get your maps here. (Minor update 2/24/08)

It's also very easy to extract them without a program. Look in the folder UT2004/cache. You'll see a bunch of files with random names ending in UXX and a file called cache.ini. Open cache.ini with notepad and you'll see a list like this:

[Cache]
5506D2624068059B77F52A8D151FCB46-1=HeavyVehicles.u
9AFF09D843BD3E7CB08371BC27341F4C-1=DM-Colonial.ut2
EDEB0FB7468A0B26F206328AC072E22A-1=Colonialtex.utx
6715E31E46EC9E1414C7B1A81734FFA4-1=Colonialmesh.usx
6C8BC3FF43B74EEEBBB3EE93E2CFA08D-1=Colonialsnds.uax
A775314A4DE93AE87F053196352D1471-1=DruidsRPG217.u
99D7E7534A0BB33B48A0DC8348F7E5F0-1=DM-TheDeck2004.ut2

So if I want to extract the DM-TheDeck2004, I just search the cache file for the appropriate UXX file, and rename it to DM-TheDeck2004.ut2. It's usually that simple. Now some maps, like DM-Colonial here, require a few more packages. They'll normally be listed in the cache in the order downloaded, so they should appear next to the map file. You can see all the files with the name Colonial, so it's a safe guess all those files are needed to run the map. It's also a good guess that HeavyVehicles.u and DruidsRPG217.u aren't. Just rename them appropriately and place them in the correct folders. Don't forget to test the map to see if you got the files right.
