Hey to my DC family

Just checking in, and want you to know I still troll these forums. Admittedly, haven't played in God knows how long, but life has been busy.

Moved into a new house, my boys are growing fast, and I'm trying to keep up. My older boy started 1st grade last week and is smart as a whip. The younger one is going to be the athlete. He is a natural at baseball and soccer, and shows signs in football and hockey.

It's hard to believe I've been a part of DC for this long. It's fun to recall the early days with Ooo, Fodderfigure, Roadrash, Blade, Hobo, Bot, DirtyDeeds, Zyras, 320 and too many more to name.
Big Daddy, Untamed, Bel, Flaash, ZOG, Shimmy, hope you are doing well.

And those that are still here (some occasionally) - Demon, Fire, Flak, Road, TON, Cribbage, Wrath, and others, thanks for your friendship over the years. If I forgot someone I'm sorry. :( Hopefully I will be back ( I still have my UT discs in my desk). Would love to game with you all again. :)

It's weird to be away so long, but cool to see there are some familiar faces still around after so long.

Cheers to all of you, and hope you are all doing well. :)

p.s. I tried hard to always be the best "last man standing" player in invasion play. Never selfish, always trying to finish strong.

Re:Superbowl or bust...........

Well I'm a Vikings rube. Needless to say I was elated to see them beat the hated Packers to get into the playoffs. Hopefully they do it again this weekend. Of course I want to see them win it all, but I'm also realistic.

Honestly, the way teams are playing right now, I'd put my money on the Broncos. Manning is not human. He is a robot QB built to win football games. The team is on fire, and the NFC has no answer to them.

My second team behind the Vikes is the Pats, but I just don't think they have enough to win it all this year.

Skol Vikings!

Quick update/FYI.

I join a guild named The Order Of the Silver Hand. It's a pretty laid back social guild with lots of friendly people if anyone is interested. They have forums on their site if you wanna join up or just scope it out.

Re:LOAD "*",8,1

Had a C-64 growing up. Loved it.

Before that, had an Apple IIc and an Apple IIe. Before that, had a Heathkit.

It's funny to see the puzzled look on younger gen's faces when you try to explain what a bulletin board was, or using a phone modem.

Also loved my Intellivision (wish I still had it as it's now a collector's item). Had an Odyssey as well.

Some of my favorite games growing up were the all-text adventures like Zork. Infocom was the greatest.

Re:Happy independence day!

Seconded. Well put Demon.

The only thing I will add to your comments is that often Americans are described as "arrogant", and it makes me disappointed and a bit sad.

I believe our pride in our country is often mistaken for arrogance. The majority of Americans who describe this as the greatest country in the world do so because they believe in the freedom and wonderful opportunities that we have strived to achieve over the decades and centuries.

We will not, and should not, apologize for our success. No country is perfect. The best we can do as citizens is learn from the mistakes we have made, and do our best to ensure we do not repeat them.

Unlike some of our own citizens who for whatever reason feel ashamed or guilty for the blessings this country has received, the vast majority only feel pride, loyalty, and optomism for the future.

It may sound cliche or corny to some, but as a grown man, I still tear up a bit when I hear the Star Spangled Banner and see our flag waving. Those symbols mean something. They have earned respect and pride based on blue collar schlubs like me just doing their jobs and raising a good family, the business owners and the WEALTHY (yes I said the wealthy) creating those jobs, our fine military which maintains our freedom at the cost of their own lives, and most importantly God. If those last three things I mentioned offend you, I'm not sorry. I'm sad. Because that means you have bought into the notion that the wealthy are evil, the military are only murderers, and that God does not exist. For that, I pity you.

I have nothing but love for my fellow man, and wish that everyone could live in a country as great as this one.

Happy independence day!

A big salute to the men and women over the decades that have allowed us to maintain and enjoy our freedom.

There is no better country on the planet. We should all feel blessed to live in the USA.

The 4th of July is maybe my fav holiday. The freedom that we enjoy should never be taken for granted.

God bless everyone in my DC family, and God bless this country.

The Secret World

Has anyone else been following this game?

It's an MMO and the premise is VERY intruiging. I signed up for the open beta and will test it out this weekend. The only MMO I have ever been really sucked into was Guild Wars. What a spectacularly fun game...and free to play...

The Secret World has so much potential and I hope the beta confirms what I hope is a great MMO.

If so, good bye social life for a bit. If not, oh well, hope they get it right next time.

Re:Diablo III

Well, played the open beta and...........

Some observations.

Gameplay is fairly tight. Works well with combat and skill sets. A little bit more streamlining is in order. Like the drops and crafting is functional. Co-op play is good, but needs a bit more cohesion. The basics are there, but co-op feels a bit disjointed.

Weapons and drops are cool. Reminds me of the old Diablo games. Story is servicable so far. Fun factor is definitely there.

I won't be pre-ordering, but it's a maybe-purchase at this point. Keeping in mind, I was a HUGE Diablo fan previous to this installment.

We'll see what the finished product looks like.

Re:PC: Battlefield 3

I play, but on the Xbox. I have quite a few friends that I play with. The game is great, and head and shoulders above Call of Duty. I used to play the original Battlefield 1942 on the PC and loved it.

Great gameplay. Lots of fun.

Re:Whitney Houston

The last 15 years or so of her life were, as I would describe, tragic. She had nothing but emotional, drug addiction, and personal problems which ultimately ended in tragedy.

She is an example of an extremely talented person who became enraveled in a miriad of personal issues which resulted in her premature death.

I cannot begin to fathom the toll that fame and fortune takes on a person, let alone having it all unfold in such a public way. All I can think of is, what a shame.

She would put 90 percent of modern "talent" to shame in the sheer natural ability department. Her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner during the Super Bowl will never be matched. The world has lost another talented human being who deserved better.

RIP Whitney.
