Left 4 Dead

Hello guys, it's been a verrry long time since I posted here last. I see the community doesn't seem to be as active as it once used to :(

UT2k4 is outdated and has been played to death, more or less, and UT07 really wasn't that popular at all. However there is an upcoming co-op game being developed by a studio that was bought by Valve Software that looks promising. The game is called Left 4 Dead. It's a post apocalyptic zombie survival co-op game. I don't think it's very far off in the vein that Invasion is, in that you have to survive with your friends against a horde of monsters.

I just wanted to say that I will be trying to buy this game as soon as it comes out (November), and that if anyone else is picking up this game, feel free to add me to your Steam friends list, and maybe we can get a steam group going for the DC community if there's enough interest. I really miss the fun I had when I played here- it was fun to kill monsters for hours while just chatting over voice comms about anything and everything. DC had a very diverse community, and the majority of people were very mature, which is pretty rare in the Internet Age.

Post your Steam ID's if you plan on getting in on some L4D action.
Hope to see some of you on L4D in November :)

Re:Is WoW (World of Warcraft) really worth it?

WoW is actually the game I've been playing for the last year and a bit. I do plan on getting the expansion, eventually. I play it to waste time, and boy does it deliver. I did play Guild Wars for a time, but I wasn't really satisfied with the "endgame" for PvE at the time- Fissure of Woe was meh, and the other one.. Underworld or something, was just more of the same. WoW, despite being pay to play, does get regular new content delivered every couple months- new dungeons with new gear, or events. So once you reach the highest level, there's many many layers of of content to sift through. It ends up being lots of hours of new content, whereas that's something you'd have to buy in the form of expansion packs for Guild Wars. Each game has it's ups and downs.

Blizzard toys with class balance every patch, but unlike Diablo 2, most changes are "buffs" to a class to make it stronger in an area that it was considered weak in. Sometimes they swing the nerf bat, but it usually isn't very hard- despite what the avid forum goers on the WoW official forums say. To be honest, the class balancing that happens in Guild Wars I found to be 100x more frustrating.

The main difference between WoW and Guild Wars, is that from my time in Guild Wars I interpreted the game as very skill based. WoW is very... gear based. Like Diablo II in that respect. Once you reach the maximum level, it's ALL about getting better gear. Unless you raid 7 days a week, there's always gear that's at least a little better than what you have.

Discover new music that you'll probably like

Yeah.

Anyways, about a month ago I stumbled upon a music website called Pandora. What you do at Pandora is enter a song or artist you like and then it will search its database of thousands and thousands of songs to find ones that are similiar in style, and then it will start playing them.

It is absolutely wonderful. I am very picky person when it comes to what type of music I listen to, but when I put in a song that I really liked it found other ones that I began to like right away.

The catch is, that it is ultimately not free. They give you 10 hours free, as a trial, then after that you can pay eaither $12 for 3 months or $36 for a year. Which is a very nice deal if you ask me.

The best thing is, it's perfectly legal :D

Mail in rebates are made for the express purpose that, for whatever reason, some people will not be able to compelte the rebate process- or even not even try to.

It comes as no surprise that this happened. After doing customer service for a time for AT&T Wireless a couple years back, I learned to stay very far away from any mail in rebates.

Which for computer parts is why I shop at NCIX.com a lot more often than Tigerdirect. NCIX has lower prices, without rebates most of the time :D

Re:DC Etiquette

Well disastrous, I can say I disagree with several of your points.

I honestly don't know how long you've been playing on this server, but from my time playing on DC I have a lot of faith in the players on this server.

You outlined several things from your experiences from Everquest. And to be honest, I learned a thing or two from some of the things that you've pointed out from your past experiences. But, there's a large difference between a well established MMORPG, and this FPS/RPG frankenstein combo that exists at DC.

The major difference is the crowd. All MMO games are... massive. :/ This server is just a small corner in a small corner of the online world of 2K4. I like to think that at DC we are more or less a very small community, in which everyone respects one another. I think of all the regulars I see when I play, as friends. But when I play an MMO (say.... WoW for example) there are a lot of people I don't know, who's personalities are potentially... questionable. At DC, if someone steps out of line, the admins will take what ever action they think is appropriate. For example, the other day I accidentally used language that was inappropriate, Dirty Deeds warned me about it, and I apologized. But in an MMO, what's "out of line" can be different, and the "hammer of justice" smaller and slower than it should be.

I honestly think arguing about etiquette is pointless. Everyone has their own idea (including me) about what propper etiquitte is and isn't. When people start picking apart small things like "who should take the DD" or "why high levels are jerks" they are missing the point of this server.

Just play the game. Enjoy it.

And laugh at my jokes whenever you see me on the server. :D

Re:I swear, force weapons do less damage

These weapon modifiers do not do more damage in the regular sense:

Protection
Force
Poison
Luck
Energy

Each + in protection, gives you an additional 10% in damage reduction.
Each + in Force increases projectile speed by 20%.
Each + in poison is a mystery to me.
Each + in Luck increases the frequency (and perhaps magnintude) of stuff that pops up in front of you (I am unsure because Dru has made modifications to this modifier)
Each + in Energy gives (I think) +1% energy leech. Or something.

This is where things get compicated.

Sturdy
Penetrating
Piercing
Infinity

Each + in any of these three is an increase in damage by +10% in damage. This is a modification Dru has made. No matter what the modifier is on any of these three weapons, it only affects damage. It will not affect Sturdyness, Penetratingness, Piercingness, or infiniteness.

Bonus Information
What is:

Sturdy? Keeps you from getting bounced around from enemy fire. (like Skaarj shock balls usually luanch you 50 feet when hit. Not when you have a sturdy equipped)

Penetrating? Hitscan weapon fire will go through the enemy and hit whatever enemies/wall is behind the enemy you first hit. The primary fire with the Shock Rifle is usually the best time you can get a Pentrating modifier.

Piercing? Ignore an enemy players shield/armour. Or something. The fact of the matter is, is it only has an affect against aother players. But there's little PvP action on this server, so it is a largely usually modifer.

Infinity? I don't have to explain this one.

All other weapons that have stars (*) in their name, with the exception of healing I believe, do +10% damage per + in addition to modifying the weapon modifier. So a +10 vorpal does +100 damage AND has a 5% (I think, I haven't played for a long time) to instagib, wheras a +9 would have +90% damage and a 4% chance for instagib.

It's complicated :( If you've played Mysterials RPG a bunch, then it's pretty easy to differentiate whats what. But if Druids RPG is the only RPG you've ever known... than it will be more difficult to get unconfused.

And if you're not confused yet... then how about this: It takes an hour for me to get pizza delivered to my house and I live in a big city >:(

p.s. I am awesome :D
