This thread has not gotten much attention of late, but I figured I would add that I recently got addicted to GW. My current character is Cinnion Starseeker, and I am a part of the Green Cloaks ([GrCl]). So if you happen to play and read this, feel free to give me a shout.

Congrats! What is it with twins?? My sister-in-law had twins on Sep 16th at 30 weeks... they are still in the NICU, but get to go home soon!

I got lucky in a way... laid off back in early Jan, and started a new position, doing some contract web development about a month ago. I am making more than I was at CMU, and that is before you consider I also get paid for 45 hours if I work 45 hours, instead of being paid salary. Even my first week, at 40.0 hours was more for a single week after taxes than my 2 weeks worth of UC before taxes. And come Monday... we have benefits too! But I got this position just in time... we had major bills past due, and I was not sure how long we would have been able to keep the van (or how we would have managed the annual inspection, which generally runs us about $600 for periodic repairs required to pass.)
As for how long this will last... don't know, but we are figuring about 6 months, perhaps with more being tossed my way, and this may lead to another, much bigger opportunity, especially given how I get to keep full rights to the code I write.
As for UT3... played it a bit, but still pretty much playing UT2K4 on DC... mainly for the old friends. I also wish I could figure out my profile password of UT3, but the idiots at Epic et.al. cannot get my account information so I can get my password reset... MORONS!!! A simple request to their DBA to search for my email address would fix the whole problem. Still upset at the teen for screwing with it on my system and locking out my account.
BTW... what sort of position you looking for? IT is pretty lousy right now, but Pittsburgh is doing a bit better than most places.

I know some who would say "Turtle" in place of "precision Echo! Or perhaps it was just not listing what is going into the soup. (Just kidding... I have been very tempted to go for the turtle skin myself...esp back when I was playing straight AM).

Besides things like a high level player being un-trustworthy, and it being up to Dru and Shan to decide who gets to be an Admin, I wanted to mention something else. If you went to a high-level getting admin rights model, then there are some folks with very high level main characters who have other characters who are very low... and this would break the model. Imagine Demon starting a new player and think about how it would work for him...
And as Demon said... we do have a mechanism (the kick vote), but sometimes, when you end up with a plague of folks ignoring the rules, a DC veteran can be very vulnerable. Every system has its flaws...

Obviously someone did not read the warning released by Bio-Tech section of *BEL* Labs some months ago...

After another email exchange with the guy at the contract house, I should be getting paperwork tomorrow morning to fill out, and we are proceeding on the presumption that I show up on Monday.
Also, the past week has been rather crazy in other ways. My sister-in-law has been dealing with problems with twins she was expecting. The original due date was to be in about 10 weeks, had it been a single baby, and they were hoping to get her to the 35-37 week period, and have her deliver right around Halloween... especially given all the troubles with things like twin-to-twin transference and such. But last Thursday, while there were tornadoes in the area, her water broke for one of the twins, and she underwent an emergency c-section. Given that there is no NICU where she lives, they then had to wait until they could get two NICU teams to her hospital to transport her to the hospital where one of the specialists who has dealt with this pregnancy is at... the squads could not get through on the ground, and the life-flight was delayed because of those same storms... and so now, the babies are known as "those babies who flew in after the storm"... they are thankfully doing OK, and are stable, but they are probably looking at at least a month, perhaps more in the NICU before they get out. (Oh... and weights... 2lbs7oz for baby B, and 2lbs for baby A, which was born a minute later... names being Elana and Diana).
This past weekend added to the craziness... friends stepped down as king&queen of our local kingdom in the SCA (and gave me an award), and we rushed from that event early to drive the hour back to town to try to make a wedding for a couple of other SCA friends... got there just after the ceremony, but got to spend time at the reception. And then we tried to make the post-reign party, but just missed it..
But all in all... it was a good week, and things continue to look as if I will be starting the new contract position on Monday.

I remember getting the very first original set of books during the very first printing, while the ink was still wet. Have them someplace... packed up. Been an age since I have played though.

By the way, I noticed troopers boasting earlier about his 2k hi scores of general on level 80.
I decided to quickly test it out.
I was level 16 at the beginning of this map. I finished the map on level 21.

I still think skill/attacking intent has more to do with scores than you think
I think generals should be nerfed.
Some of you may have seen (DC)*BEL* running around. I decided to start a general class several nights ago, and hey... since I am clan general, I just went with the clan tag indicating clan general...hehe Anyways, last night I played one map (Serenity) similarly to how I do with my EAM for several ways... and my Score/XP was 110/1363 that map. Rapier had a turret and got 2634/2789, and Smurf got 569/1477, all in 32:29. Then we have two late-comers... Elite's Tank (362/742 in 3:11) and Ryuxen (6/1023 in 8:43). I have to wonder what it would have been like had all of us been in the entire map.
Now... it should be noted that both of these players are fragile. I have no health bonus on my Gen... I have focused on getting the basics of medic/shield awareness/healing (nice work on the double bars too! wondered how that would work), and a few other things like weapon speed, which I just maxed out last night (hey...with two infinite weapons... I would be stupid not to do this).
But as I adapt my play style to this character, I have to wonder what my scores will turn out to be. While my initial impression was that the Gen should be nerfed from previous observations, I have to wonder about my initial observations... at least for now. I plan on pushing my Gen more like my EAM (but without the nifty Rod/Beam/Bolt) on some maps should they present the opportunity, and we shall see. But given that I can see XP ranging from around 1500 to 3000, depending on map and player mix... we shall have to see, but for now, I would say hold off on nerfing.

Well... two updates...
1) I talked to Verizon, who re-built my cross-connects, which appeared to have screwed up when they reconnected my service. Testing showed that for the first time in ages, I got my bandwidth up to that for which they have been charging me (20/5 and getting 19.8/9.5!!). Game play last night was sooo much better.
2) The job start may actually be the 27th, because while initially we thought that HR was not going to require a background check, they asked for that info late yesterday afternoon. At least I see the light and know it is the end of this tunnel!

I will be playing later on tonight I hope!!! I think I found part of my problem the past couple of days being that my 20/5Mbps connection has been more like 1/5... gotta call Verizon about this.
