I decided to go ahead and make a black skin. I also made the body parts of the other versions a bit darker as well. I'll upload the new version in a bit.

has anyone else who has downloaded this had issues with it not working ?
got a message from Skin City saying
"thanx for submitting , but the model isn“t working.
I can see the preview-pic in the playersetup , but not the model.
Regards
SaD "
going to give him the link to Jefe file in his briefcase see if that helps
Hmm, I installed the version from my bc onto my son's computer with no problem. The only differences I see in the version you put up is that you added a newer version of your texture file and a readme, neither of which are called in the upl.
One remote possibility is that I did use some rather experimental shader stuff, but my son's computer is pretty modest (Radeon 9600) and it worked on there, so I doubt that is the problem. I'll see if I can get a few more people to test this by posting it on Epic's message board.
Did SaD happen to post his log file?

A black skin is doable, but he's already submitted it. I'd really have to make it part of the same texture file for team skins to work efficiently, and it's already around 9mb. He'd either need to resubmit the new version, or I'd have duplicate everything in a new texture pack.

Definitely needs something funny on the side of the box.
I don't ever recall Hobbes in any Spiff adventures. If you want to have them both, why not just make it classic Calvin in the box with Hobbes? Could even be a simple floating box or with carboard box legs
Also, this would be going all complicated, but I think it really cool to have taunts that make a speech bubble from the comics appear, or even have BLAMs and OWs appear when hit. I think you'd have to do it by having a few rectangles hidden inside the box, and then use an alpha layer to create the transparency around the speech bubble.

I'm uploading the file to my briefcase. Everything is done. Let me know if you want me to add your email to the image.

since it's a texture, it can be applied to any model

I think this will be pretty much the final look for everything (Click through for hi-res):
I can go back and change the eyes, but I think they look pretty cool like this. I'm especially happy with how the normal and gold versions turned out. Also, I need some ideas for names, since I can make each color selectable. For example, gold is the Cylon commander. I don't know if there were any other alternate-color cylons on the old show, but the different colors could be stuff like Cylon Mechanic, Marine, etc.
Also I was thinking it would be cool to have 2 or 3 voice taunts that play when you do a animated taunt, similar to the bender, farnsworth and raptor models.

Bit of an update:
Cylon commander
Blue skin
Not sure if I want to keep team-colored eye LEDs or change them back to red.
Green and red shiny skins are also done. I have a few more things to do to the body skins.

I've mainly worked on the specular effects so far, adding some dustiness and a supporting alpha layer. I set up some preliminary team skins too.

My son likes.

Calvin's much cooler than Stewie.

very cool idea
what about a transparent glow/skin of a slightly different shade than the wire frame , would give it a bit more "depth"
I figured out a way to make a glow effect work, It's only noticeable close up though.

Those would both be cool models to make. To answer your question, there isn't anything to prevent a model from appearing to hover, take the Professor Farnsworth character, for example. He sits in a hover chair. In fact, it should be slightly easier to make hovering characters than fully animated characters.

then I'll release hopefully by the weekend
if you want them jefe I can give you then skin maps when I release and you can so a skin if you want
I'd like that. Would you mind waiting a bit to release though so you include the second skin? It shouldn't take me more than a few days to have a damaged skin ready.

Looks good, let me know if you want any help with the skins. I've got a few ideas on how to do the glowing led.
Edit:
By the way, when you start wrapping the skin, is there any way you can leave parts of the limbs with their own textures (not symmetrical.) I think it would be cool to do a battle damaged skin, but if all parts of the limbs are mirrored on the skin it's harder to do convincingly.
For example, this is something that's still WiP on my hard drive:
I couldn't do anything like a scrape that starts on the top of one leg then ends on the middle of the other because both of the legs are mirrored. I had to make more subtle smudges instead. Mirroring, of course, lets you give more 'real estate' to the textures, so it's a good technique. It would just be cool if you left a few parts unmirrored.
And I was thinking a little more about how to do the LED. When you set up the face texture, it would help if you did it with a separate detail for the eye area like in this mockup:

After that it would be easier to get the LED moving without bleedthrough to the rest of the face.
