Update: I tried getting into UT again and had the same problem. This time however my computer would not recover from its boot loop,

I was wondering, does the same error occur when you load other games? And if not what sort of temp is the CPU running at when playing those games?

Also does Windows Event Viewer give you any details of system/application crashes?

You could also try running 3D Mark or some other stress-testing software to see if you can replicate the error.

You may of already tried system restore, if not is it worth a go?

Is it worth trying a complete clean install of your drivers and the game? It may be that you still have traces of the previous driver version that are conflicting with the new set and it's an important troubleshooting step many miss out....

I have included a link below to a tweak guide for Nvidia cards, here's what the guide says about a clean install...

Old Driver Removal

Now we move on to the simplest, and yet most commonly mishandled part of using graphics drivers - the removal of previous Nvidia graphics drivers. To do this successfully, you need to follow some simple steps which will help guarantee that your installation of the drivers is 'clean', and leads to trouble-free performance. I particularly recommend this procedure if you are experiencing graphical corruption or strange behavior. To completely remove your existing graphics drivers and all traces of them from your system do the following:

I hope this helps...

Hey Pyramidion,

Sorry to hear about your issues. I have a completely different setup from you but have experienced a similar symptom from time to time so I thought it might be worth mentioning the following.

I have dual Radeon 1950 XTX cards in crossfire and when starting a game I'd occasionally get signal corruption on screen which looked very similar to your screenshots. It looked like a series of diagonal flickering lines stretching across the screen. Although it only occured when I launched a game, not on the desktop. I googled the problem and eventually found someone with the same problem and it boiled down to a faulty 'dongle' that connected the two cards, the simple fix was wiggling the cable which made the lines go away. Occasionally I'd have to re-boot to fix the issue.

If you check the cabling out this may be a part fix for you but I also think you may have a secondary problem with heat which you also need to address. No way should your CPU be running at 100c on just the UT3 menu, somethings definately not right there.

Good luck bud.
Thanks for the clarification.
I'm only talking about the look of the game on low graphics because otherwise I love the look of the game,

I'm goona look like a right idot here but is there an actual in-game menu setting for low/medium/high graphics? I've found a few options to change under the 'Advanced' tab but compared with tweaking options available in other games UT3 seems decidedly lacking.

Sorry, double posted somehow...
UT3, seeing as it's posted in the UT3 section

sorry couldn't help the dig
For me this game has run like a dream. I've never seen such good AA and the graphics are superb. I know what your saying about the blur effect but having seen Gears of War on the Xbox 360 I think there are many similarities where the style of graphics are the same.

I'm running 2x Crossfire 1950 XTX cards with an Athlon 64-FX2 dual core clocked at 3.1Ghz with 4GB Ram so I've gotta agree that you need a pretty high end system to get the thing to run at exceptable levels.

Hopefull they will release a patch to enable lower end systems to get acceptable frame rates.

I've also got to say I can't imagine why it took so long to release the game. Ok the graphics are pretty stunning but the content compared with UT2003 is pretty much exactly the same. The cut scenes are difficult to follow and the game play is just replays of the 4 different game modes. Online play has not really advanced either.

Overall I'm impressed with the graphics but feel that the content isn't anything to sing about. The developers have released the tool kit for the community to use and seem to be sitting back on the belief the community will make it into a star title.

Rating 6/10.

Can't wait till Invasion Mode is ported and DC is online with UT3!
I agree, usually they are pretty "jonny-on-the-spot" with their deliveries but seeing as I ordered the game 1 year and 10 months ago my credit card details were out of date. After I received an email from them advising of that fact I quickly updated the card only to find they put me at the back of the que and a new delivery date of Feb 2008!

Lucky I managed to find a copy of UT3 in town and cancelled my order. MeanDevil was also still available!! Yipeeee.

See you guys on the battlefield.....
I'm pretty blown away with the game right from the start. Without amping up any settings the gameplay is super smooth and the graphics are first class. I'm running;

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor @ 3.1GHz
3GB DDR2-SDRAM
2X Crossfire 1950 XTX cards

Great! I've had a back order for Unreal Tournament 3 since 16 Jan 2006 with Amazon and they are saying I've gotta wait until Feb 2008 for a copy!

All I can say is Rubbish!

Gonna cancel my order with those no-bodies and go on the hunt in the high street tomorrow to try and get me a copy. Fingers and toes crossed MeanDevil is still up for grabs!!

Did you get the Tai-Chi that comes with water cooling or the plain one?

I got the one with liquid cooling, slight hitch tho, the mobo has an AM2 socket and the supplied cooling block doesn't fit! So I've had to install the AMD thingy insead, my supplier is searching out a compatible block which he says should be avaliable.

In the meantime I've got the rig all up and running! It took me about 7 hours total (inclu all the softeware installation), would have been quicker if not for the prob with the water cooling block which took me about an hour to get over!

I've only just finished so I've not even had time to install any games on it! Will keep you posted

Tho, it's not what I would have built if I did one today

Yeah it's a steep learning curve, I've already seen some errors in my choices but I suppose that's the beauty of DIY, i can always change parts in the future.
Well folks, after weeks of um-ing and arr-ing and a ton of research I've finally completed the order of my new PC. I've decided to go down the 'build your own' route as its gonna be half the price of ordering a complete system.

This will be the first time I've built my own PC so I was more than a little nervous about getting all the components right, there's so much to learn when you start out! So hopefully you guys won't point out any glaring problems with the spec below...unless you want to see me cry!

It'll all be arriving tomorrow!

UT2007 bring it on!

I'll keep you posted on how the installation goes!....

My vote is to keep the new lvl.

It's all about the challange for me so bring it on! You'll find you'll soon adapt to the new difficulty and as Shan says team work will become more of a prominent feature.

Kewl! I'm gagging for a game. As soon as the plaster is off my arm I'll be checking it out.

Thanks Dru & Shan!

Man your gonna be taking some eyes out with that sparkling jewel! Cham must have got some female advice on this surely! Credit where credits due tho!

Thumbs up!
